We had said Joey Barton would be a key player this afternoon for Newcastle United at West Brom, but now he’s been ruled out injured, and that’s bad news.
Joey was expected to return to the first team after serving his 3 game suspension for violent conduct, but is now out through injury, which is a big blow to Newcastle.
So in that case, Chris has names an unchanged side from the starting eleven that did so well against Chelsea last Sunday, and that gives another chance to Danny Guthrie in central midfield, and Wayne Routledge out on the right wing.
For West Brom, Somen Tchoyi starts and manager Roberto Di Matteo makes one enforced change to the side that beat Everton 4-1 last weekend.
Tchoyi comes into midfield in place of Youssouf Mulumbu, who is serving the second game of a two-match ban.
Chris Brunt moves into the center of midfield with Tchoyi out on the right wing.
The referee for the game is Mike Dean of Wirral shown above – he gives lots of penalties.
Howay The Lads!!
Teams:
WBA -Carson; Jara, Scharner, Tamas, Cech; Dorrans, Brunt; Tchoyi, Morrison, Thomas; Odemwingie.

Newcastle United: Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Campbell, Enrique; Routledge, Guthrie, Tiote, Gutierrez; Ameobi, Carroll.

Comment #3big miss, as much for defensive qualities as anything.
they’ll play five across midfield, and without nolan and barton could dominate.
a lot will be on Tiote’s mighty shoulders.

Comment #5Gutted, completely changed the dynamic!
Still, nout we can do about it now…I hope Danny’s distribution improves 10x today ’cause he had me worried last week with the amount of pointless knee high balls he was playing!
Tiote will need to be on form but we also need to look for Routledge and Gutierrez to put in the yards to relieve pressure!

Guthrie needs to step it up now. He needs to prove he’s not another fat kid with a good occational pass. Today he’s up against CM’s like Scharner.. also knows as a rock. Step up Guthrie.

Comment #14Without Barton (or Ben Arfa and to some extent Nolan), there is next to no creativity in the midfield. We need a bit of luck or at least very hard work to score goals today.

They’re roughing up Carroll too in the early stages, need to give defence an option when we’re clearing the lines, Campbell is struggling to find a way out

Comment #21This is a training ground exercise of attack versus defence. We are playing WBA but making them look like Barca. We will probably win this one even though we look relegation material!!!!!!

Amoebi has lost possesion 1 too many times also.

Comment #27Jonas missed the tackle on edge of box and they scored. Just watch Jonas because he constantly gives the ball away. He is the weakest player in a weak team. This performance so far against another struggling team is chronically poor. Stroller is the captain!!!! Sums it all up.

Comment #30We cannot build an attack. We are relying on long balls to win corners. Absolute rubbish and an embarrassment. The sands of time are running out for Hoots. Ed, do you still think we are heading in the right direction?

Comment #33No chance of a win. 5 in there midfield is stopping routledge getting down the right and guttierez has been useless and reluctant to go past people. Even if we get past them we can’t cross a ball for carroll. Ameobi is useless in possession and we losing possession way to easily. Absolute garbage!!

Comment #35I am not saying we will be relegated but we are definitely going to end up in the mix. Its plain to see but will the fat man spend a cent in January? We all know the answer to that don’t we? The plan is to survive and then spend nowt again. What sort of plan is that, except a slow death.
