We had said Joey Barton would be a key player this afternoon for Newcastle United at West Brom, but now he’s been ruled out injured, and that’s bad news.
Joey was expected to return to the first team after serving his 3 game suspension for violent conduct, but is now out through injury, which is a big blow to Newcastle.
So in that case, Chris has names an unchanged side from the starting eleven that did so well against Chelsea last Sunday, and that gives another chance to Danny Guthrie in central midfield, and Wayne Routledge out on the right wing.
For West Brom, Somen Tchoyi starts and manager Roberto Di Matteo makes one enforced change to the side that beat Everton 4-1 last weekend.
Tchoyi comes into midfield in place of Youssouf Mulumbu, who is serving the second game of a two-match ban.
Chris Brunt moves into the center of midfield with Tchoyi out on the right wing.
The referee for the game is Mike Dean of Wirral shown above – he gives lots of penalties.
Howay The Lads!!

Newcastle United: Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Campbell, Enrique; Routledge, Guthrie, Tiote, Gutierrez; Ameobi, Carroll.

Comment #81Guthrie isn’t just painful. He’s at best a fringe player. AT BEST. No wonder he never starts when we have a full strength midfield to choose from.

Comment #82Guthrie is the worst player I’ve seen for a while in toon midfield. He needs to go in january. dwells on the ball and loses possession when in good positions. I’d rather have ranger on and push for equaliser.

Comment #92if Guthrie’s days as a Newcastle player isnt numbered now.. I’m giving up on football.
Are we fans the only ones who can see that he isn’t cut out for the premier league?
Sorry for his injury though… I wish him the best at a new club in the Championship.

Please can you sell / barter / get f*cking rid of Alan Smith in the January sales please; he’s been on less than 5 minutes and gets a yellow card.
What sort of team player is that?

Comment #117I’m not calling for CH’s head, but he has done a very poor job lately. His lineup and tactics has been a disaster for many games. And in all the games I’m talking about (blackburn, bolton, west brom and so on..) it has been EVIDENTLY that the tactics and lineup has been the primary cause for the losses.
He needs to get this straight now.. As I am starting to believe that one of the bloggers here could pick a better lineup and tactic.

Comment #119Just because you wear the armband doesn’t mean others can’t speak. Cheik is still struggling with English so I think he’d be a pretty bad captain (maybe in a season or so).
