Kevin Nolan And Joey Barton Start For Newcastle

Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan returns to the Newcastle United side against Liverpool for Alan Pardew’s first game in charge along with fellow midfielder Joey Barton for the tough game against Liverpool.

That’s great news for Newcastle fans, and now the lads need to show their character and put in a good and gutsy performance this afternoon – that’s all fans will be looking for.

Barton sat out last Sunday’s defeat at West Bromwich Albion with a groin injury and Kevin Nolan has been rested for a couple of weeks to let his ankle injury heal completely.

As expected, Nolan and Barton come in for Wayne Routledge and Danny Guthrie, who both were ineffective last week in the defeat at West Brom, and they are both on the bench today.

Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson are serving the last game of their three-match suspensions.

This is an early announcement of the team, which caught us a little bit by surprise – but it’s the best team Newcastle can field with all the players we have available.

So no surprises at all with the team that Alan Pardew is fielding, in his very important first game as manager of Newcastle United.

Goalkeeper Steve Harper, out since September, is on the bench for this afternoon’s game, so he will be pushing Tim Krul for the goalkeeper position from now on, and he came through a practice game in midweek, in which he saved a penalty.

It’s also good to see Alan Pardew has Nile Ranger on the bench – because part of his job at Newcastle is to bring through the substantial young talent at the club.

Torres starts for Liverpool, so we have to hope Sol Campbell is on his game this afternoon, along with Steven Taylor.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle: Krul; Simpson, S Taylor, Campbell, Enrique; Barton, Nolan, Tiote, Gutierrez; Ameobi, Carroll
Subs: Harper, Guthrie, Routledge, Lovenkrands, Perch, Smith, Ranger

Liverpool: Reina, Johnson, Konchesky, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Meireles, Lucas, Kuyt, Maxi, Ngog, Torres
Subs: Jones, Kelly, Aurelio, Poulsen, Cole, Jovanovic, Babel

Ameobi is always a concern. I hate his apparent lack of interest on and off the ball. Too casual for my liking.

It’s bad news Ranger is on the bench, he should be starting!

It’s bad news Ameobi is in the team.

Pretty much the team most expected.

A few had Ranger in for Ameobi, it might have been a good psychological move to have Ameobi on the bench. He needs to see his place in the team is seriously under threat.

Lovenkrands did well last match, he should start.

Ameobi should realise he is not an automatic starter

Seeing Liverpool team is weak at the back and in the cm we can win this easy I feel Torres can’t run because of his hammy so no worries there 3-1 toon toon

Lover is a lightweight who never gets a kick unless we dominate a game- which is seldom- and will not happen today.
Carroll singer- yeah, Liverpool are so bad and we are so good. Six nil, what do you reckon?

Great news that Carroll and Ameobi are teemed up so that guarantees quality football through the midfield. Would hate us to be playing headball. Hughton and Pardew pick the same team. What does that mean?????

Good to have more of the squad back. The battle will be in midfield and I like our lads better. So long as the defensive line stays a little deep to prevent Torres getting behind them. Newcastle 1-0.

@jimiley: Pardew more or less announced in the press conference he wasn’t going to change anything.

    Do try to keep up.
