It’s good news that Joey Barton is very close to signing a new deal to stay long term at the Newcastle United club.
Jose Enrique – next in line for improved contract at Newcastle
And Alan Pardew has talked today about another one of his top core players, who he wants to build the new Newcastle side around.
Jose Enrique is the player Alan wants to tie down to a new long term contract , and the Spaniard has been interesting some top clubs lately, including Liverpool and Manchester United.
But with his excellent displays over the last two seasons, that doesn’t surprise us one little bit, as Jose is one of Newcastle best players these days.
The Spanish left-back is also keen to stay on Tyneside, and has often said he would love to finish his career on Tyneside.
And Jose famously said once that he preferred the weather in Newcastle to that back in his native Spain.
Maybe that freezing cold North Sea breeze has gotten to the Spanish star? 😀
Alan Pardew talked about Jose today:
“We haven’t started negotiating with José yet, but I want to keep him,” “He has been superb for me since I got here and he is an excellent player.”
“We will start to talk to him in due course because he is an important part of what we are building here. He’s been very impressive.”
“Getting these contracts done is important and I’ve been happy with the support I have received from Derek Llambias, the managing director, and Mike Ashley in doing this.”
And with things on the contract front going very well since Alan arrived, we can see Steven Taylor, Mike Williamson, Ben Arfa, Joey Barton, Jose Enrique, Cheick Tiote and Andy Carroll all on new long term contracts before too long.
Of course the first two in the list have already signed new deals to keep them on Tyneside through the summer of 2016, and Ben Arfa’s deal runs until the summer of 2015.
Comments welcome.

Comment #7It’s amazing how far Jose has come along, when we first bought him it looked like another disaster signing, as he wasnt adapting to the premier league as much as we hoped…now look at him. Brilliant news with Pardew wanting to sign him up, Pardew has surprised me…. be fair to say he’s surprised alot of fans.

Comment #11Why would Carroll want to go to Liverpool, they arent exactly much better than us at the minute.
Plus if the worst comes to worst and he does leave, why would he choose liverpool over the likes of Chelsea, Man U and Real Madrid?
Silly scousers punching above their weight.

Comment #24David Craig of Sky has confirmed from the club a bid for Andy of £30m from an ‘unknown’ club (assumed to be the scousers) has been rejected.

Please Newcastle DO NOT sell Andy.

Comment #31If it was guaranteed that the money made would be spent on the team then above 30m is worth taking. Particularly if we get tiote/ben arfa standard players in. But I fear the money would go to ashley and maybe 10 -15 mil spent on players.

Comment #34God I hate the transfer window!!! Saying that I think if Bent is worth £24 Million AC is worth at least £40 Million.
As long as it holds and Mike stays firm he’s done well. Although I do have the nagging feeling that he’ll wait until summer to sell. You know just after everyone’s returned their season ticket applications!!!

Comment #39If he sells AC now, on the last day of the window I am done with NUFC, shows no ambition, no hope for the future, Liverpool are below us and are selling their best player, which will see Reina go as well.
It’s a sham if he goes with no time to replace him. Just heard NUFC have confirmed bid rejected:
Please be true!!
