Sky Sports is reporting today that Newcastle are considering a shock move for 6’2″ Finnish striker Shefki Kuqi.
Shefki Kuqi – experienced Finnish striker
Newcastle are trying to bring in a free agent for the rest of the season, after losing Andy Carroll to Liverpool, and Shola Ameobi to a broken cheekbone.
Two free agents – French striker Jeremie Aliadiere and Brazilian Ewerthon – have been considered so far, but the news today is the experienced 34 year-old Finish International, Shefki Kuq is available, and being considered by the famous Tyneside club.
Shefki had his contract with Championship side Swansea terminated by mutual consent only last month, so is now a free agent.
The 62 times capped Finn has played for Stockport County, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Blackburn, Fulham and Crystal Palace, amongst others, and would help bring even more physical presence to the Newcastle attack.
But we wonder how much class this player has, since we know Aliadiere is a very good player, and if he couldn’t score goals he could at least help to set some up.
Certainly, Shefki has never played at the top level in England, so the question has to be – how effective would he be at Newcastle though the end of the season?
The Vucitrn, Yugoslavia born player has played 512 first class club games with 147 goals and has played for 14 different club sides.
The question is – will Newcastle be the 15th club he has played for?
That’s the latest news on the Newcastle striker front today, and Alan Pardew is said to either bring a free agent in today, or just not bother.
Comments welcome.

Comment #24On a completely different note who do people think our player of the year has been so far?,been trying to think but it’s a tough one,Nolan?,Tiote?,Enrique?,Barton?,Colo?.As much as i love them all i think i have to go for Jose, love the way the opposing wingers get the ball and think”No point in going down the left,i’ll just cut inside all game”,you’ll never beat Enrique.

Comment #29Full Disclosure: I’m a Palace fan that watches you lot till Palace get promoted again. I’ve also had the distinct pleasure of watching Kuqi up close.
———
Are you all nuts? Kuqi sucks. He’s a big, slow lump that runs around the pitch like a chicken without a head. There’s a reason why Swansea dumped him. Lawrie Sanchez tried the same move when he was in charge of Fulham when Kuqi was 3 years younger and he was crap.
Kuqi? Really? There’s nobody else you can get on loan?

Kuqi never played with Palace in the PL. We got him after our relegation almost as a consolation prize for selling Andy Johnson. His top-flight experience is mostly as an impact sub with Blackburn and a brief loan stay with Fulham when Lawrie Sanchez (remember him) had the same bright idea.

Comment #36All of you are a bit crazy. 34 is not young for football, but still, don’t need to trush the guy. As back-up, 30-40 mins playing, can bring something to the table as well, not only 21 year olds score goals these days.
(Of course he not my number one choice, not even number 25, but we need bodies to have some options until the end of the season, but what about the Brazilian player?)

Comment #37By the way, There is always a possibility of a contract that is appearance based and then. So for example he gets 5K-10K weekly, and then if plays, extra, I don’t know, another 10K, so in total 20K if plays, 10K if doesn’t.
