Will Newcastle Fancy Elmander For Free In The Summer?

Bolton striker Johan Elmander had one of his best games of the seaosn against Newcastle, when he helped demolish the Magpies 5-1 at the Reebok last year, and was almost unplayable.

Johan Elmander – available for nothing this summer

And he overpowered Newcastle center-back Fab Coloccini for one of the goals, and then Fab was sent off for fouling Johan, so the big powerful Swede wouldn’t get past him for a second time during that same game. It was simply a disastrous game for Newcastle, who couldn’t contain the 6’2″ Swede.

Newcastle have lost one of their powerful young strikers in Andy Carroll, but of course the Tyneside club are now £35M richer for it, but Newcastle still have Shola Ameobi and the up-and-coming 19 year-old  Nile Ranger, who are both powerful strikers. And Leon Best has looked good too this last month or so.

And if Newcastle are to continue with their powerful attacking options, 29 year-old Johan Elmander could be more than a decent acquisition in the summer – especially for nothing.

The big doubt with the big Swede is his lack of goals, but he has put the ball in the back of the net this season with 10 goals so far, although he’s on a dry spell at the moment.

We looked at his record on the Bolton FC web site, and since joining Bolton from Toulouse in June of 2008, for £8.2M, Johan has  played 93 times for Bolton with 20 goals.

And he has today warned Bolton, that he could well be leaving the club in the summer, and he feels no obligation to stay at the Reebok, which of course is his right.

When Owen Coyle took over from Gary Megson last January, it seemed to completely revitalize the 51 times capped Swede, and he has been in very good form this season for Bolton.

This is what Elmander said today:

“I don’t feel any obligation towards Bolton,” ”They have had the chance to do something about a new deal. We’ve had dialogue but not right now.”

With our only doubt about Johan being his goal-scoring prowess. or lack thereof,  he would nevertheless be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle.

We can well imagine in a year or so Elmander and a certain young Nile Ranger scaring the living daylights out of Premier League defenses throughout the land.

You talk about a physical presence up front – Arsenal wouldn’t even turn up to play against those two. 😀

He was good against us but let’s not forget this is a player than somehow managed to go for 9 months without a single goal.

cant complain about a freebie and we could give him a 3 year contract so ifhe is crap then we can move him on for maybe 2 million, thats aslong as his wages arent to high

Ed: get your thinking cap on and create an article/expose of the Fatman’s plans to render the Level 7 Gang defunct.

This exercise in “increasing the away support capacity” does not hide the real facts. They are that Fatman doesnt want a singing section if they choose to vent their opinions against him ???

    Utter disgrace.

we need a bigger squad so we can have better cup runs and if we do get a place in europe for the 2012/13 season then we will not have to worry so much aboiut bringing in 6 new players who have never played together and can focus on a couple of decent ones.

    AndyMac @ 8

have to agree with you, the relocated fans from level 7 singing corner will have to be dispersed around the ground, as for increasing away capacity??? WTF. perhaps manure, man city, Sunderscum will take up the allocation, but wigan ?wolves westham, et al simply wont, however there small pocket of fans will create more noise tahn ours scattered around the stadium. I can almost hear it now, s41t fans etc aimed at us…please rethink NUFC.

Yes, he was good against us but so was Ryan Taylor before he signed. Banging in free kicks everytime we played Wigan.

However, if we get him for nowt you can’t complain!!

Have to stick to the script; young, re-saleable players.
Whereas Elmander will get this last transfer payday and that’s it.

    …mind there’s this young bloke on Liverpool’s books…injured at the minute…

He supouse to be a striker? If so, very bad one.
10 goals this season and he is in the starting line up?
20 goals in 93 games? That is almost 3 seasons which means – 7 goals a season, a striker?
You sure he is not a goalkeeper? Maybe a defender? 🙂

Thats a goal every 4.5 games. Not good enough if we want to move forward.

andy mac , the fat man’s just rolled out a 10 year ticket freeze and plans to expand the stadium a little , but moving a few vocal (pretentious tossers) and its a conspiracy .
im not the guys biggest fan either , but seriously people need to calm down with the moronic theories that he’s trying to end the world .

FACT , we’d have been fecked without someone putting in the money he has .

who cares about the ultra’s , bunch of pretentious fools anyway .
fact remains that he’s just put a freeze on ticket prices for the next decade and is expanding the stadium which will increase revenue .
im not his biggest fan either , but the FACT remains , without his cash this club would be in a far far worse position , if toon fans want to keep ignoring this then fine , but facts are facts .

He has been of the boil the past few weeks and tbh i like him but Davies MAKES most of his goals by his workrate or passes or help to take players away from Elmander, a good-ish player and on free not bad but not starting 11 worthy for our future team with the 35 Mill + atm he wud step in but i dont think we need good-ish player we need great and Elmander isnt that good backup tho for next season but he wudnt wanna sit on bench.

Veto, your FACTS are somewhat contentious!…the Fatman has re-financed and claimed it to be clearing debt….the reason he couldn’t sell the club is because he wants the loan money back as well as the fee he paid Hall & Shepherd + a lot more on top….the only FACT remains net profits in EVERY transfer window and 1 relegation so far!
The Ultras section was one of the few good ideas to be pursued in recent years….unfortunately he doesn’t like them calling him names and voicing their dismay at our plight from regular European challengers to “feeder” club for the “big” clubs with ambition.

Newcastle have Ultras? They are probably one of the quietest ones, Usually Ultras are knows as very violent etc. I never heard of Ultras in PL in general. Thought that in Britain is not common.

Dont worry Oleg they’re not “real” ultras they’re just the nearest thing we have at home to a “North Bank, Shed, Gallowagte even ?”

With stadia now all seater it’s very difficult to get all the singers/fans in the same area. As you know the Gallowgate end was where we all stood before seats were brought in.

So the chanters/singers have all moved to Level 7, mainly because its fckin miles from the pitch and also right next to the away fans. So its a place in the ground where we have our best opportunity to create some noise.

Veto is probably Fatman’s illegitimate son so that’s why he’s the only person on this site who doesnt see a problem with this latest manoeuver.

Wouldn’t look to much to his goalscoring record for Bolton before Coyle since then they just hoofed the ball up an thats not the best part of Elmanders game. Much similar player like Kuyt i.e. hard working guy that makes lots and lots of runs and opens up for other players. Decent scorer and should be good for 10-15 goals a season. Not more. But on a free he is a brilliant player and better then any of the once we have today.

Really hope we dont sign Elmander, hes not the boy for us, he hasnt got the best track record and I really dont rate him.
Why are we talking about gettting toss like this when we have”Loads a Money”.
F**ks sake we need 2 top notch up and coming strikers, one that can play on the right wing, if not both. That way we have Ben Arfa on the left Geviniho in the middle and Hulk on the right.
I know we wouldn’t get Hulk, well out our wage cap, but we have to aim at this type of quality and with the awesome Tiote (if we keep him) in defensive mid, we have to look at playing 3 up front.

Get Elmander, spend 10-12 million on bendtner or 10-15 million on Lavezzi from napoli, take a risk on Piatti from almeria, everyone says he’s too small but look at how well modric is doing now, size doesn’t matter if your that talented.
