Shefki Has Experience And Is A Real Gentleman

Alan Pardew has elected to bring in a new free agent striker for the rest of the season, but Alan’s choice is a surprise one.

Shefki Kuqi – can do a job at Newcastle

The 34-year-old Finland international striker, was released by Swansea last month, and has said he is proud and honored to be joining such a famous club as Newcastle.

And we just heard him speaking on Sky Sports and he said he had already played with Blackburn and Fulham, but not at the level of Newcastle. We’re sure he didn’t mean that as negative to Blackburn and Fulham, but it was interesting nevertheless.

Pardew has brought in the 34 year-old as cover for Newcastle’s currently fit strikers Leon Best, Peter Lovenkrands and Nile Ranger.

Shola Ameobi had his depressed cheekbone operated on yesterday, and it would be great to see Shola back just as soon as possible.

Alan said today:

“What Shefki can bring is experience and a presence because with Shola Ameobi being injured, we lack a little bit of presence.”

“He is a guy who is a real gentleman and character, and anyone who has worked with him would know that.”

“I thought that was important as well, that we didn’t bring in somebody who might not be able to handle the group we have got.”

“We have got a group who are honest and in your face, and if you are not right, then you will be told, not just by the staff, but by the players, so you need to be the right person.”

“He gives me options from the bench, and that will be his role.”

Shefki also has some presence with his physical type of play, and at 6’2″ fits into the mold of most strikers on Tyneside.

But what Alan has said suggests he will only be used when absolutely necessary, but he;ll get his chance and with him being an emotional type of player who gives 100%, and who knows what he will do in front of 52,000 mad screaming Geordies.

That’s a very good question.

I thing it would be sporting of us to issue a public warning to Blackburn –
If they chose to ignore this warning then on their own heads be it!

I reckon he’s gonna be like Sibierski…get the odd, brilliant goal. Watched some youtube vids and he looks good when the balls played into him – he can do great stuff with the ball!

He’s a big old bastardo that’s for sure.
He’ll be able to do what Shola can’t after half time, hold the ball up.

I reckon he will get a lot of joy against the less experienced centre backs. He can turn a defender quite well.

Just hope Enrique doesn’t tell Kuqi to have a look here. His confidence will be knackered before he even kicks a ball. He’s going to pull the shirt on. I’ll support him.

We should all reserve judgement until he gets on the field. If he holds up the ball well he could be very effective.

Lots of negativity regarding koochi, look at the end of the day he isnt long term, hes not expecting big wages, he seems the type tp give 100% and will get stuck in with 20mins to go and could pop up with a goal or two, his character suits us and he could be a cult hero, lets give him a chance

I think people are making too much out of this signing. He was signed for much needed depth and to compete for the starting spot for the rest of the season. I think he was chosen over the others because he was willing to sign a contract for a few short months.

Newcastle wouldn’t want to have any other striker around longer than that. The intention is to sign a striker or two this summer, not now.

Very interesting article in the daily mail guys. It says Sylvain Marveaux is expected to join Newcastle in the summer but is also awaiting an approach from Liverpool. Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi said: ‘We will never see Sylvain Marveaux in the jersey of Rennes again.’

I guess this could pave the way for Gutierrez to join Lazio. I like Jonas but I think £8m is too good to turn down.

If we could get Marveaux and N’Zogbia or Gervinho our squad will look very strong.

From the Mail article is the chilling words of our sheep manager
“We paid huge sums of money for Peter [Lovenkrands] and [Leon] Besty so Shefki’s never going to challenge them unless …..”

If those two signings are what he considers to be ‘HUGE SUMS OF MONEY’ we really are shopping at SpotsDickhead

    Words of widom alos
“I’ve said to him, let’s be honest, there’s probably nothing at the end of the season for you, we just want your personality and your playing ability to see us through to May, and he’s absolutely fine with that.”

Wow I would really be motivated with that speech !!!!!
You can see how he falls out with the dressing room

I thought Loven as a free and Best about 1.5M !!!

Would definitely take 8m for Jonas. Absolutely no end product. Never seen a guy give the ball away the ball so much. Could be easily replaced by this Marveaux on a free. Glad we are getting canny in the market these days at long last.

I understand youtube is not the best place to view a player but it does look like he knows where the goal is, so if he can make himself a nuisance to the opposition defence and get the occasional goal himself then he will do for me for now.
