Newcastle now have 35 points with 11 games left, and we probably need just two more wins to be safe this season – which was always Newcastle’s number one goal.
Xisco – Newcastle will move him out – if they can!
So with that in mind it may be safe to look ahead to the summer, and we know Newcastle will be strengthening their side with new players coming in, but also they will probably want to unload a few of the players, who can no longer do a job on Tyneside.
The first player in this category is Xisco, and of course he left on loan back to his former club Deportivo, on the same day we lost Andy Carroll.
So he could have had a chance to stake a claim again if he had stayed, but that was not to be.
Newcastle will try to move out Xisco in the summer, either on loan or permanently, but the 24 year-old will not be keen to leave Newcastle with his contract paying around £50K/week through the summer of 2013.
We also think that Alan Smith will leave in the summer, because with a second bad injury to his ankle, it’s going to be very difficult for Alan to come back and play near his best, and he can hardly get his place in the Newcastle side with Cheick Tiote looking so good.
And Alan has already had to alter the way he plays football, because of the first bad injury on the ankle he picked up when he was at Manchester United.
So it could be a good time for the 30 year-old to move on – but the lad’s has done the job at Newcastle.
Alan was one of the senior players who got us out of the Championship at the very first attempt last seaosn, and Newcastle fans will never forget that, and Alan is just a great guy of course.
Sol Campbell’s gamble on joining Newcastle has just not worked out, and now he is the 4th choice center back at Newcastle, with Coloccini, Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson all showing top form this season.
So unless something dramatic happens before the end of the season, we don’t expect Sol to be aorund in August, although he may want to join the Newcastle coaching staff.
Wayne Rutledge probably has no future on Tyneside, and it wouldn’t surprise us one little but if he moves permanently to QPR, and that is even more likely if QPR get promoted to the Premier League, so Newcastle will at least get their money back on this player.
Players who may be borderline are Leon Best, James Perch, Peter Lovenkrands and Ryan Taylor.
But with Best and Lovenkrands looking good last night, we don’t expect them to leave, unless they collapse in the last 11 games.
James Perch seems to be improving and also seems to have the confidence of new manager Alan Pardew, so we think he’ll stay as a solid squad player, and it really depends with Ryan Taylor what happens in the last 11 games of the seaosn,.
But Ryan is an excellent squad player and we don’t want to see him leave, but he may want to move on if he doesn’t get enough playing time under Alan Pardew.
The fifth one to leave will of course be Shefki Kuqi, who has a short term contract through the summer.
So that’s Xisco, Alan Smith, Sol Campbell, Wayne Routledge and Shefki Kuqi to move out in the summer.
Of course if we are to have a good side next season we need to keep our best players like Cheick Tiote and Jose Enrique.
That’s the four we think will be moved out – who do you think should leave?
