Alan Pardew Fully Focused On Newcastle Youngsters

Alan Pardew will have some work to do this summer, as he will need to decide which youngsters to give extended contracts to.

20 year-old Matthew Grieve – out with a broken cheek-bone at the moment

It turns out that 19 year-old midfielder Michael Richardson, 19 year-old England youth international Ryan Donaldson, who is currently on loan at Hartlepool and has appeared in 5 games, and 20 year-old Ashington-born defender Matthew Grieve, are all out of contract in the summer.

Grieve received a very severe facial injury when he smashed his cheekbone last month, while out on loan at Stockport County, where he played only 3 games.

But the 6’3″ local defender is hoping to return before the end of the season, to stake his claim to get another contract at Newcastle.

Newcastle’s  Reserve team game last week with Manchester United was postponed, because of a water-logged pitch at Whitley Park, and the next game is when Newcastle face Arsenal on March 9th, which is next Wednesday  at St James’ Park.

Pardew talked today about his focus on the youngsters on Tyneside:

“I do not have a problem with focusing on some of the younger players.” “I have a lot more time to do that now.”

“We had the Man United game canceled because of the surface last week, but there are games coming up.”

Phil Airey and Tamas Kadar could well both be sent out on loan again next season, and while Kadar is at Huddersfield right now, he is sidelined with a groin injury, and has only played once for the club now managed by former Newcastle player and coach Lee Clark.

Alan is also aware of just how well James Tavernier is performing at Gateshead, where he’s already appeared 13 times so far:

“I know James is doing terrific with Gateshead.” “He has a real chance of threatening the squad next year.”

The games that James Tavernier is getting at Gateshead right now will do him the world of good, and James, along with Shane Ferguson, Nile Ranger, Tamas Kadar and Haris Vuckic are probably the young players who are closest to the first team at the moment.

However, we do expect that Haris Vuckic will be sent out on loan too and definitely early next season, and maybe for the rest of this season, because the Slovenian U21 International needs some games to further his development.

lol bigdan, it was probably the steburp post before that made me react like that aswelll as some other outside influence, i admit it was probably an over reaction and i will apologise for that.

ps, i would go for a clump of kitchen roll as its much cheaper.

bigdan: Don’t listen to lewman as he hasn’t got a clue. Tampax Pearl’s are far and away the best you can buy.

check out our team from the last time we played Everton at home 2008/09

Harper, Steven Taylor, Bassong, Coloccini, Jose Enrique, Ryan Taylor, Butt, Nolan, Duff (Gutierrez 46), Ameobi (Martins 58), Lovenkrands (Smith 77).

The score was 0-0, not that much of a difference from the team that could be playing this weekend. The only player I miss is Bassong, who we got £8m for and Willo is a more than adequate replacement (and English). We now have Toite instead of Butt (a no brainer even in Butts Man U pomp). Fulham are welcome to Duff and that leaves Martina or Best. As much as I liked Oba i think Bests recent form would get him a start. The Manager…. Kinnear.

in terms of youth, i think we’ve gotta so careful not to overplay this youth policy stuff. yes its a great thing but we need a mix of youth and experience….as not all youth risks work out (zamblera anyone?) ….so youth policy yes..unilaterally? no

There’s news from a reliable Spanish source that Barcelona are interested in Enrique. As much as I want him to stay, if he was to go anywhere I would rather it was Barca. He’s good enough to play for them.

I just hope we don’t get Riise. Too old and never been a good defender. I hope we get a young player like Van Aanholt.

    davybtoon;

No it’s not someone I know. It’s barcastuff on Twitter, they’re usually correct with Barca transfers. The Perotti and Rodriguez stuff was Wikipedia so I wouldn’t believe it.

i have to agree that i would be sad to see jose go but would be happy for him if he went barca as he is good enough and it would surely be a dream for him to play with messi, iniesta, xavi and that striker who cost less than ac lol.
hopefully we could get one of their young players as part of the deal if he does go there.
