The stars are starting to line up for Newcastle United.
Joey Barton – in action at Stoke City
Some would say it’s about time, since some of us haven’t got an awful lot of time left, before we can see Newcastle being very successful again.
There was great news about captain Kevin Nolan this week, that he would be signing his new contract at Newcastle very soon, and Kevin seemed pleased with everything that had gone on with his contract negotiations.
Joey Barton had said that if Kevin signed then he would do the same thing, and a good report out today suggests Joey will sign a new long term deal at the end of the season.
There seems little doubt that the support of Newcastle fans for Joey over his initial torrid time at the Tyneside club, when he spent 77 days in jail in the summer of 2008, for an altercation he committed while Newcastle player, has had a big effect on Barton’s thinking.
Talks between Newcastle and Barton’s experienced agent Willie McKay broke down in January, shortly after Andy Carroll left the club.
Joey rightly questioned Newcastle’s ambition, and whether if the right offer came in for any player the club would simply sell them.
But it seems the powers that be at Newcastle have allayed Joey’s fears on that front, and Alan Pardew will be given money to significantly strengthen the Newcastle squad this summer.
That’s at least the party line from the club, and a source said to be close to Barton (McKay?) said this today:
“Joey wants to stay at Newcastle, he has never considered leaving and he is extremely confident of signing a new contract at the end of the season,”
“He has a great relationship with the fans, there is no truth in speculation that he wants to quit.”
There have been a number of clubs hovering like vultures, in case Joey’s talks don’t go well, and they would then hope to get Joey on the cheap.
The latest club to express an interest are Liverpool, who for some reason seem to covet a number of Newcastle players, having already swooped for big Andy.
Joey has also had a good season both on and off the pitch, and but for one altercation with Blackburn Rovers’ Morten Gamst Pedersen, for which he received a three match ban, Joey has been very well behaved on the filed.
It will be good news indeed when Newcastle have signed both Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton, and then the next target will be to keep Jose Enrique at the club.
That may be a little harder – but still possible if those stars align!

Comment #3tips on how to show we are an ambitious club:
1) sign good players (which usually cost that much and those kind of players are 9/10 choose Spurs or LiverFool)
2) OR we could go for a cheaper option which is to terminate Ameobi’s contract so that future players knew we got good ambition!

Comment #5If spain come wanting him then he is gone. Everyone else is more up in the air. None of the clubs after him are certain to have CL next year barring AC Milan and they wont offer him 1st team football. Everyone else is European football which we are in contention for next season if investment is made.
It all depends on if NUFC are ambitious enough for him come summer.

Comment #10I wonder how many players have not signed because of Barton being here.
Barton and Nolan are nearly in their 30’s and while they’ve both had good seasons, are they really the future on 4/5 year deals ?

I think you’ll find that she said £20m to buy players, which mean the other £15m would go on wages & agents fee’s, which we all knew about from the point of Carroll leaving, so that’s £35m you muppet…. plus I’m guessing that if we sell anyother players ie Jose, then Pardew will get a % of that money to buy players with too…
Why do some so called fans always try to read between the lines when there’s nothing there….

Comment #12the way i take it is that we get the 35 million but maybe pardew has estimated round about 15 mill for wages and fees and the better he can negotiate fees the more money he will have to spend on players

Comment #15I have griped about Mr Ashley in the past , And I think what drives me and really causes the aggravation in my thoughts are the wages cap at our Beloved Newcastle United .
Liverpool do not pay top whack but they will go to £80 thousand on a top player’s contract..If we could match that for the top player’s
one or two?, ambition and acceptance of Ashley would be the order of the day amongst we supporters.
I realize that most supporters that have a dig at Ashley have probably got this in the back of their minds when they post any anti Ashley comment’s via this great site that Ed provides for Us ..But just don’t realizse whats driving their thoughts as they react to something, and they speak from the heart.
One thing worth the mention Ashley is a ducker and diver when it comes to receiving massive fee’s for players and then NOT spending it on replacement’s. And Im’ thinking ..
“Here we go again ” …
Listen to the patter coming out of Pardew from now to late August ..
See…? I am being Negative ..and its all down to the wages cap..because, because ! of that I know we wont compeat. And that is were Ashley is going wrong . Thats why fans who are Anti Ashley voice against him. He want’s progress on a shoestring In prem league terms and is intent on making a profit each year.
Middle of the table each year and skirting relegation each season will be the norm, and he will make his profit by selling our best player’s
Krul and young Ferguson will be sold soon ..Give them both a season and they are away…Who’s Next ?……
