Cheick Tiote, in his very first season on Tyneside, has won the Newcastle United Blog Player of the Season award.
Cheick Tiote – what a player!
Cheick beat out Joey Barton to win fairly the vote comfortably, in a poll where each reader had one vote and a total of 2486 readers voted.
Here are the results of the poll.
Who Was Newcastle's Player Of The Season?
- Cheick Tiote (38%, 941 )
- Joey Barton (31%, 754 )
- Kevin Nolan (13%, 311 )
- Fabricio Colocccini (11%, 283 )
- Jose Enrique (4%, 108 )
- Jonas Gutierrez (3%, 74 )
Total Voters: 2,486

In previous years the winners were :
2008 – Habib Beye
2009 – Sebastian Bassong
2010 – Jose Enrique
It’s interesting that if Jose leaves this summer all previous three winners will no longer be at the club.

Comment #8I can see why CT won, but I didn’t vote for him, as he only did half a season. Not taking anything away, but I think over the entire season Barton or Nolan have been our biggest contributors.

Comment #15Rumours at the moment are that we won’t get Gervinho and Barton’s going to Liverpool. However, apparently the club think we might be able to persuade Gameiro to sign.

Comment #174.5m for Barton is a good deal. Lets fleece Liverpool again. They’ve already given us 36M for an injury prone, one dimensional, wife beating thug and p…s head.
Barton was offered a new contract just not as long as he had hoped for. Shepherd would have given him another stupid contract to take him up to 33/34. Barton should have accepted, see how he was playing in a couple of years time and review it then.
He knows in his own words we are getting better, younger, cheaper players who we will pay money for and wages too.

Comment #19NottsGeordie- Basically everyone has realised that we may not get him and Arsenal may. But that has always been the case so nothing has actually changed. His comments could even be in our favour.

Comment #21fur10ng just copies stuff from cwarr and other people on twitter. if cwarr writes something it soon appears on fur10ng.
cwarr has been on twitter alot longer than all these other itk people and has got quite a few right in previous tranfer windows, after he got tiote right a few of the journos started folowing him and check up on whatever he says. so far he has linked us to gervinho, gameiro and nzogbia. he has been saying these were our targets for a while. who are the local press now linking us with?

Comment #22After spending a frustrating two years at Chelsea Daniel Sturridge moved to Bolton on loan for the second half of last season and showed what an exciting prospect he is. Owen Coyle made no secret of his desire to keep Sturridge and it does look likely that the youngster will leave Chelsea this summer. With Johan Elmander leaving Bolton Coyle will need a new striker, but funding might ultimately force Bolton out of this chase.
Newcastle have emerged as the most likely option, with £35 million from the sale of Andy Carroll to Liverpool in the January window still burning a hole in Alan Pardew’s pocket. Harry Redknapp is also keen on Sturridge, but the striker has proved what he can do with a regular run in a team and so the prospect of more first-team football might be enough to see him head up to the north-east.

Comment #23After being left out of Manchester United’s Champions League final squad, it looks as though Dimitar Berbatov’s days at Old Trafford are numbered. It seems incredible that the club would let the Premier League’s top scorer leave and that he is valued at £7.5 million.
Newcastle are thought to be favourites to land Berbatov, but would the Bulgarian want to leave Old Trafford for St James’ Park? He will play regularly at Newcastle and the Sun claims he was a fan of the club when he was a boy, so this is a distinct possibility.

Comment #36People think Gervinho is no longer coming cos of some pratt who claims to know an insider. This guy is bolloxing all over, he claimed that there was no contact from Liverpool for Barton then next hour he claims that a £2.5m bid had been accepted.
He claims that he has an insider, but cmon he wouldn’t be pestering his insider 24/7 for all his information, and unless his insider is Pardew or Chanley or someone like that then they wouldn’t get to know this stuff instantly.
don’t believe him, as far as I’m concerned Gervinho will be announcing his arrival at Newcastle tomorrow.

Comment #37Absolutely no chance of getting Berbatov. Ashley wouldn’t pay a 30 year old 100k a week.
Reliable sources though, serious football journalists, are saying the Gameiro signing might be more realistic.
