Cheick Tiote, in his very first season on Tyneside, has won the Newcastle United Blog Player of the Season award.
Cheick Tiote – what a player!
Cheick beat out Joey Barton to win fairly the vote comfortably, in a poll where each reader had one vote and a total of 2486 readers voted.
Here are the results of the poll.
Who Was Newcastle's Player Of The Season?
- Cheick Tiote (38%, 941 )
- Joey Barton (31%, 754 )
- Kevin Nolan (13%, 311 )
- Fabricio Colocccini (11%, 283 )
- Jose Enrique (4%, 108 )
- Jonas Gutierrez (3%, 74 )
Total Voters: 2,486

In previous years the winners were :

Comment #169Simmo is not terrible, but we do need a new RB, if you look at how much Simmo has come on i think he could be much better.
Would love Richards, although that will never ever happen. He is class and what an athlete!

Comment #172Barca seem to do well with all their Attacking Mid’s not all goal need come from upfront. i just feel that as good as barton,Gosling, Nolan and yelllow card tiote are we could do with someone that can really change a game. do we hold out for HBA to do it every game i think not. what if he or Anyone on our left side was to get injured?

Comment #176On the subject of Tiote. The first time I saw this lad play i knew he was the real thing, I would say he is the best holding midfielder in the premiership bar none. He learnt that he didn’t have as much time as he was use to very quickly after making a few mistakes, adapting at that rate confirmed my suspiscions that we had some player on our hands. One hell of a player. If we can keep him for a season more I will expect a huge bid for him next season. We need cover for him though, I would not discourage him from playing his game despite the yellow cards. If he can reduce it without impacting his game that would be great though. Best holding midfielder I have seen play for us in 20 years.

Comment #177TINMAN maybe terrible was a bit harsh but aaron lennon tortured him and if you look at the amount of goals he has cost us he was at fault for all 3 west brom goals last week

Comment #180Hainesy can you ask which of our young players might be going out on loan. Just wondering if Ranger will go as can’t see another year on the bench doing any good whereas Airey could probably use a few minutes each game as well as some Reserve action. Also what about Vuckic? That’s probably more than enough from me.

Comment #181Think my post is unclear lol. Lazy posting :P. What im trying to say is i think he will be good enough in a year or 2, and we can put up with him till then. He is still young! But i do agree we need a RB/LB cover, hopefully someone who can do both, as in a worst case scenario we would still have Fergy and Tavern

Comment #182that previous list and this years winner’s mean were now a big lover of defensive styled players?
or that we just havent really had the flair players to shout about for a long long time ?
, i hope the incoming foreign bargains turn up a couple .

Comment #187Would you sell Tiote if a huge bid came in OneAlanShearer? Say 40-50 million pounds?I think the owner would snap your hand off which worries me since he would then pocket at least part of it. Let’s hope all the yellows Tiote got this season put off prospective buyers.

Played 2004/5 season left joined Lens then Joined Lyon Then Bordeoux (moved quite a bit) but his contract is up heard he is being linked with Napoli and few others.
So a free agent which id prefer him as DM replacement than having Smith at this club.
Simpson has a problem of being too loose in his tracking he stands off and when he commits he usually mistimes it and lets the player cut to byline or inside, doesnt judge the attackers well but you look at Jose side it happens once or twice but nothing like wave after wave which seems to come from Dannys side.
I like Tav and if we lose Jose i dont see us buying a RB as we need striker/winger and LB then i dont see us looking for RB. Maybe Jan

ferguson yes, but with us finishing 12(9) almost, i see next season as a season to push on we could have finished 9th or even higher if not for the tott or scummers game. we have a ok team and just feel the more flair and deapth of it the better. most games this season we never hade a super sub, so even if Kran didnt start i would sooner see him warming up than lua lua, vuckic nolan, gosling ect ect, but just my opinion.

Comment #196What the previous players of the year tell me is ( slighty pessimistic) that we have not had a good enough striker! If we had one striker score 15+ Goals this season or even the three before they would have without doubt have been voted player of the year. We just melt when we have a good goalscorer!

ure right, but he wants out of tottenham cos hes not a starter.. not much chance of getting him im afraid..only if this zog, gervinho, menez, barnetta, etc. deals fall through.. but i agree..would be a good signing for 5 mio. anyway..i hear hes off to lazio..
