Sky Sports News is reporting that Lille winger/striker Gervinho is now planning to announce this week which club he will be joining in the summer.
Gervinho – will announce club he is joining this week
The Ivory Coast international has just one year left on his contract at the French club, and he will be leaving Lille for an estimated £10M in transfer fees, although it could even be less than that.
Newcastle are certainly in the frame to get the player, but we know some other top clubs are also involved, and we just have to hope he will choose the Magpies.
But both Arsenal and Liverpool are also said to be interested in the player, and Gervinho has said he would like to join a club in the Champions League, so Arsenal could even be the club he chooses.
But since he’s not French and Arsene Wenger must know that – is that even possible? 😀
But perhaps playing in French League qualifies him for Arsenal.
Gervinho seems to want to move to the Premier League, and he had this to say to Sky Sports:
“During the week I’ll announce my decision so that everyone knows.”
“I love the Premier League, but I have interest from Spain and Germany as well, so let’s wait and see.”
We are keeping our fingers crossed that he will indeed choose Newcastle, but that’s far from certain, and we’ll look for some hint from the local press tomorrow, because if he’s not coming somebody at Newcastle will surely stop the pointless speculation.
But there again, a certain Cheick Tiote may have woven his magic, and persuaded his Ivory Coast team-mate to join him on Tyneside.
And since there were reports only last week that Newcastle manager Alan Pardew had also met with Gervinho personally, it maybe that Newcastle could pull it off.
What do you think?

Comment #2Even though I think we are the only ones to put in a cash up-front bid (if rumours are true) I think Gervinho will go elsewhere for European competition. I think we will get Gameiro and then bring in a Prem player as a solid no 2 striker. Not sure who that will be but hoping for someone with proven ability. Things are looking up but we need a few more key signings. Howay the lads!

Comment #4“After the last match with Lille and a game with Ivory Coast, I will go on holiday. I have already made my choice. Either I will leave or not, everyone will know it later. It is a personal choice,” Gervinho was quoted as saying by L’Equipe
Personal choice tells me its not a club people would expect him to go to

Comment #5Hope we get this lad, he looks like the real deal. Also would like to see even more pace and flexibility in our game so Zog and a main striker would do it.
Top six with these boy’s.

Comment #8Cheick just has to show Gervinho the Arsenal game. The never say die attitude of Geordies. The reaction when he scored with his first goal. That may turn Gervinho’s head. Just hope he hides the WBA game.

Comment #10Liverpool already has Suarez and Carroll while Arsenal is likely to play 1 forward which is Van Persie. Where’s your space in big clubs Gervinho? Come to Newcastle and be part of bringing to club back to where it deserves to be!

Comment #11I really don’t see it as such a vague possibility, I mean the premier league has such a massive reputation, Newcastle has always been an exciting well known club and a favorite of the neutral, he’s good mates with Tiote, we appear to be building a French speaking core of quality players, and for all we know he was thrown an awesome pitch to join us for the new-look-NUFC…. think positive

no i really hope we get him, but i have heard multiple rumors that we will sign him or gameiro in wich case i hope we dont sign gervinho cause i would rather have a out and out striker.

Comment #19I think Gervinho might end up being a bit too greedy in terms of wages for us also. It looks like we will be in some high scoring games next season if we sign half off the players we are being linked with. The entertainers mark II anyone? Sounds fantastic to me. I love to see the ball hit the back of the net (with us doing the scoring of course).

Comment #20mr t.iote i’ve probably been supporting them longer than you mate so do one.
just because you’re as daft as some of these thinking we’re going to attract all these players.
I’ll be the one laughing my sack off at you and the others putting up these dream teams for next season when we’re left with what we got plus a few bargain basement players

Comment #21One thing I will say for Pardew is that, when given the correct support, he usually gets decent signings. Whether or not he can rebuild us to former greatness? I dunno but I really want him to prove everybody wrong and not even to vindicate the pro-Pardew people – just so we get somewhere again!

I’ll support whatever team is on the pitch, unlike you i don’t need the thought that Gameiro, gervinho, NZogbia, Demba Ba, Berbato have to be in that team before i support them.

Comment #29aww how do you know how long av supported them for as if it even matters av supported then since a was 3 wen a went to my first match 25 years ago n ok are you trying to say ben arfa isnt a big player, n tiote was out of the so called “bargain basement” n he turned out fine but if you think we wont get good players fair enuf how about you go away, let us who believe we can get good players be deluded and you can cum on either wen a good player signs like gervinho, gameiro, sturridge and zog signs n eat humble pie or on september 1st and tell us how deluded we were but until then dont ruin it for other people

Comment #31Its a personal choice his quotes said! Of course its Newcastle United that he will join. The personal choice is he wants to join his best mate Cheik Tiote the Ivorian BEAST! if rumors are to be believed than 12 million quoted as the fee! Wages sorted and just clause left to finalize! Then its all over! He will be wearing white, as he is already black!

Comment #32Thump – I think toonbelomonter has a headache from a post magpie999 left on the last thread.
I can understand his annoyance too. The lad was just banging on about how we’ll be selling everyone and buying second rate replacements. magpie999 appears to have a crystal ball and, presumably, wants ASHLEY OUT.
Surprising lack of positivity in some people.

i’m not ruining it at all, i’m trying to give some people some perspective when they start showing the starting 11 for next season with 4 or 5 new players in 🙂
we do the same thing every year, we big up who we’re going to get, we get disappointed so we start the season on a downer because we didn’t get the 6 super stars we were sure were coming.

Comment #37Magpie999 – easy son…its a blog…its the silly season…give the lads too much stick for dreaming big. No one on here really thinks we are going to boat all these big fish. I’d much rather dream about who we might see in than mope about who we won’t!
We will all support whatever team is on the pitch. You really think we are thowing in if we dont have Gameiro, Gervinho, etc. Get real. We love our side no matter what but it is fun to speculate. You should try it!

Comment #38thump another moron who thinks supporting newcastle is about shouting off about getting all these players in.
Never shouted off about anything. I’ve been discussing potentials, yes, as we all have been. Unless you know of a match NUFC have played after the West Brom game, of course…?
You guys will be the ones come the season not supporting the team on the pitch because we don’t have all these players you keep listing….ill be the one still supporting the team who ever comes in.
Further proof you have no idea who I am and have probably never read a post by me. I’m the one who looks on the bright side as much as I possibly can, the man who was prepared to back Ashley and Pardew because I firmly believe in ‘better the devil you know’.
For the record, I have took part in a fantasy squad line up once a couple of days ago.
We’re all here to support the team and we’re discussing potentials and possibilities. If you’re happy meandering around mid table, simply surviving in the league as so many have done over the years – good for you! Others like to see the potential outcome of signing vital players in important areas and imagining what can come from it.
Grow up, man.
