Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle United have no plans to move on midfielder Joey Barton for as little as £1M.
Joey Barton – can go for £4M?
We should hope not, because even though he has just one year left on his contact, he’s still worth a lot more than that.
And it could even be worth it to Newcastle, to keep him at the club in his last season, because after all he was one of Newcastle’s best players last season, and you need some stability and continuity, with all the new players coming into the club this summer,
The news is that Newcastle may still sell the player this summer, but they would be daft to sell him for such a low price, and we don’t think that will happen, but that doesn’t mean he will not be sold.
Barton is as disappointed an anybody that he has not been offered a new contract on Tyneside, and of course when Kevin Nolan didn’t get the contract he wanted, he was even prepared to play in the second division with West Ham, rather than stay on Tyneside, with still two years left on his current contract.
The 28-year-old Barton is being linked with Arsenal, and if that interest turns out to be valid, he may end up in London, as long as Arsenal pay a few million for him.
No bids have been made for Barton but Sky Sports is reporting that Newcastle will sell, if they receive anywhere near £4M for him, and that sounds about right.
What do you think?

absolutely no reason to sell under price, we’ll get more value if we keep even if he didn’t renew ..
seems like some is forgetting that we needed 6 player AT LEAST without selling any of our last season’s squad players!

Comment #4Mohamed of course we can’t demand the price, as JB only has a year left on his contract. If Arsenal seriously come in for him and we block the move, Joey would be a dangerous person to have round the training ground.
We have to sell, and sell for the highest price we can but I’d be surprised if we got £4m. Even if we sold for £1m we would save £3m on wages…….he must be replaced though!

Comment #5I reckon we won’t let him leave for any less than 6M, but announcing he is available for less may trigger a bidding war.

Comment #12i love Barton’s passion but 4M for a problematic player who won’t get any younger is a good deal. We could use that cash for a quality youngster.

Comment #13Bad idea to sell Barton. Mentally he’s in better condition than ever, had his best season in ages, and was the orchestrator of the team. Not getting younger >? Who cares, he’s in good condition and has 3 good years ahead of him. Ashley is far too obsessed with wage cuts and getting in young french men who grap our mediocre wages. We have signed well, but the policy is fraught with risk. It needn’t be , if we can keep some of our strong players like Barton.

Comment #14correct me if I’m wrong but fat ash promise to reinvest the £35m we got for Carroll but let’s work out the maths over the transfers, that boy hasnt spent a single cent! what’s with all the bargains! we wanna see action on real transfer bids lodged, not just rumours!

Comment #15Have we got any players who are getting any younger?
Remarkable!
Of course we could always offer Joey a 3 year contract on reduced wages and sell him in 2 years’ time after we may actually have won sommat.
Just an thought, like.
