It seems like the race to sign 21 year-old England U21 striker, Daniel Sturridge, is heating up,
Daniel Sturridge – 4 PL clubs interested
Last Friday, the news was that Stoke City were the first club to officially bid for the player and slapped in a first bid of £6M.
And news today in The Sun, that West Brom have also entered the race to sign the impressive striker, who had an excellent loan spell at Bolton this year, when he scored 8 goals in just 12 appearances for the Trotters in the Premier League.
The two other clubs said to be interested are Bolton and Newcastle, and if no other clubs come in for the player Newcastle could even be the favorites to sign him.
But we have no definite proof of Newcastle’s interest, we are just hooping the Tyneside club will go after this young and exciting player.
We’re not sure what Chelsea will want for their Birmingham-born 6′ 2″ striker, but we think a figure closer to £10M is more realistic.
And it’s not clear what plans the new boss Andre Villas-Boas could have for the youngster, and he could even be loaned out again, and if that’s the case Bolton could be the favorites.
The news from the local Newcastle press corps is that Newcastle are not going to bring any loan players in for next season.
Things could well be heating up with Sturridge, especially if Chelsea are willing to sell him.
Comments welcome.

Comment #4If the other teams interested are Stoke, West Brom and Bolton, surely if we have a bid accepted we’ll be favourites.
Theres a lot more prestige and a much larger fanbase here than at any of those clubs.

Comment #9He wont go for 6m tiotal football. If stoke actually did bid it’ll just have been to test the water. He wont be going anywhere for less than £10m imo.

Comment #11We MUST sign Sturridge, none of the top 4 clubs are going to want him, apart from them i think we’d be the best draw and the other teams being linked with him i’m sure he’d rather come and play here.Hope Spurs don’t go in for him though, that could be a problem,i think they are looking for a striker. If he ends up at a lesser club i’m going to go ape-sh*t.

If we lose out to any of those 3 clubs I think we have to worry because there is no way that WBA, Bolton or Stoke have a similar appeal to playing for the toon! And he’s a brum so doubt he’d be that excited about playing for West Brom, although he could be fan…

Comment #13If Stoke have offered £6M, then all eyes are on Chelsea to see what happens.
1. Offer Rejected.
2. Offer Rejected – Player Not For Sale.
3. Offer Rejected – Player Not For Sale – Available for loan.
4. Offer Accepted.
Either way, it will give us a good indication of whether he is available.

Comment #14Surely we should get ahead of all of those clubs? If we get Sturridge, N’zogbia, Taylor, Erding and then M’bengue if Enrique leaves I would be really happy.

We can only loose out to them if we actually put a bid in.
If we dont bid, we havnt lost out, we just havnt bothered.

Comment #16Sturridge is the future of England’s strike force, give him a couple of years and he will be in the full England team, playing regularly. If Chelsea do offload him (be very surprised), we should snap him up, even for 10 million. Come on Ashley, let’s see how ready you are to splash the cash!

Comment #17all these free signings suggest either two thinks either Mike Ashley wont spend a penny or we are saving the money for one real top quality signing. He’s the perfect no9 signing and over great value given his age and nationality. If we got him for the same of less than Liverpool paid for Henderson i think i would probably die crying with laughter.

Comment #21Bolton if they hadn’t lost Holden to injury would of been very much in the Europe race…they are a very good team
They would be our competition for him IF he was to be out the door which I still doubt

Comment #23If Sturridge doesn’t fit into the Mike Ashley type of player then who does? He’s young, quick and his re-sale value will be through the roof after he gets his first England cap. If our owner has such a good business head then he must see that this player has got just the type of potential that we are looking for, Even his wages would not be that big of an issue, he could have a reasonable standard pay with incentives attached.

Comment #27Apparently the 35M includes – wages over the length of the contract, signing on fees, agent fees and obv transfer fees etc , if this is to be believed then we have in fact spent a big chunk of that money.

Comment #28If Marvin Martin does sign then we were talking to Beardsley a few weeks ago like. He was right about everything else, Barton and Nolan not getting contracts, both probably leaving, major upheaval.
But he also said Martin was top priority and thats yet to happen.

Comment #31Im sure Ashley will be spending more on the bigger signings. Nothing wrong at all with bringing in ba and marveaux on frees, why not, I certainly wud, along with other pricier buys.

Comment #34I dont think he would move to liverfool like, they’ve got judas and suarez as first choice strikers. If he moves clubs it will be to a club where he is first choice striker and he’d get that with us.
As you say though WWJBD, are we willing to spend big?
I bloody hope so!

Comment #36I think if we are after him we are waiting til a bid is accepted then we will match it and let the club sell itself….its risky but we will end up with players who want to be here so am all for it

Comment #37It is a better strategy than just sticking a massive bid in and overpaying for the player eg Liverpool with Henderson and Carroll lol.
Wait til Chelsea accept a bid then either match it and let St James Park sell itself, or stick on an extra £500k just to be cheeky haha.

Comment #38To be honest I wouldnt bid 10m now, the chances are if we do that someones going to go 10.5m and we’ll have to go 11m which ashley might not like, there’s no point going higher than 7 atm when the only bid on the table is 6

Comment #40Perfect player fitting the club’s transfer policy.
Great goals to games ratio at Bolton.
Wanted by the vast majority of fans as the next No9.
Will the club actually give the fans what they want for a change?
