Swansea City today have put on their web-site that they have rejected an offer from Newcastle United for their Welsh defender defender Neil Taylor.
Neil Taylor – may sue Swansea club
Apparently Newcastle officials contacted Swansea today to make the official bid, and Swansea have turned it down.
We are assuming the bid is for the figure is in the release clause – which has been widely reported to be £1M.
Taylor was allowed to talk to Newcastle, because of the release clause in his contract, but Swansea have said they want to keep their player, and have rejected the Newcastle offer.
Legally, a release clause means that if another club meets the price stated in the clause, they must be allowed to speak to the player and the club then has no alternative but to accept the bid, otherwise the contract is not being honored.
That’s what release clauses are for, and usually the figures are sky high – especially for top players – but not always.
That’s how Newcastle signed Yohan Cabaye, whose release clause was widely reported to be €5M, even though he’s probably worth more than that, and th deal was struck for that amount.
Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins said on the Swansea web-site today::
“We recognize Neil as a young, talented Welsh player that has an important role to play at this club.”
“We brought him here from Wrexham and have helped nurture his development. He adjusted very well to the Championship last season and we look forward to seeing him play a big role as we enter the Premier League.”
“That is why we have rejected Newcastle’s bid. I spoke to Neil’s agent today and he understands the situation.”
“We have a big challenge ahead in the Premier League, but together we can maintain the progress made by this club over the last few years.”
We can understand Swansea being upset by this, because they will need to strengthen a lot for the upcoming PL season, and they will not have a lot of money to spend, so losing Taylor for just £1M is not good news.
Life’s tough, as we all know.
No doubt Swansea will be hoping that’s the end of the matter, but we are 99% certain that Newcastle will take this forward – since what Swansea have done seems not to be legal.
The player has also been seeking advice from the PFA, and could sue Swansea City for breach of contract, not to mention Swansea stopping the player from making a step up to Newcastle United – a terrific opportunity for the lad – and he knows it.
Comments welcome.

Taylor is a quality player who we will get for 1mil,without the release clause he would cost somewhere around 7mil, so he’s worth waiting for

Comment #82@Davies: Completely agree but don’t put something like that in writing if you’re unwilling to deal with the consequences.
What happened is this:
1. Swansea sign this unknown talent.
2. They give him a low-risk contract with a big buyout fee. (Keep in mind point 1.)
3. Turns out he’s canny bloody good! Bigger club comes along, notices this and meets release clause.
4. Swansea Chairman pouts, stomps his foot and pelts his toys out of his pram.

Comment #83Davies it’s swansea’s fault for putting a daft clause in his contract at such a low price. Poor management on the boards behalf, imagine if we had done that sort of thing with Fergie, there’d be uproar amongst us.

Comment #84The ironic thing is that Swansea were taken to a tribunal over Taylors signing from Wrexham, he was on a free transfer but because he had come through the youth system Swansea had to pay 150k, plus 10% of any sell on fee

Comment #86yeah, he was at Man City until he was 15, then left to join Wrexham, if Jose goes, this guy would be perfect for us, his work rate is unbelievable, and he always gives 100%,but he’s raw, the fan here will love him

Comment #88@Jack: I’d be lying if I said I’d seen him play (or rather if I’d noticed him) but if we’re after him I’m sure he’s got to be worth a punt at least. Just hope the Swansea board pull their head from their backsides. Never had a bother with a Swansea fan – they don’t deserve this kind of shite.

Comment #95With Marveuax, and Fergie do we need to spend 10mil on Zog???
We also have HBA and Gutti who can fill in there if needed, would rather see that money put towards signing Seydou Doumbia of CSKA, one of the best young strikers out there who just happens to be a very good friend of Tiote’s

Comment #96Fergie is still young and could benefit from a bit of loan time. N’Zog and Marveaux plus HBA and Jonas who can play either side is just good for cover.

Comment #97Would rather see Seydou Doumbia come in, 69 goals in 83 games, thought fergie was excellent when he played last season, just think we need the type of money we looking at for Zog spent in other area’s

Comment #98Zog is better than what we have so i’d say we should get him. £9m for him loan Fergie out to a top end championship club then we have Jonas as back up who has always went on a good bit of form after he has been made sub. He’d be great back up. That would leave us with 4/5 players who can cover wings – Jonas Marveaux Zog, HBA (Probably play more central) Barton (If he’s here)

Comment #99Jb… Fergie isnt ready yet, he passes and dosent move. Hes a very good prospect but wont be playing as often as he was last year, zog was a different class last year(and year before), second highest dribbling success percentage behind messi and spent most of last year playing on the right. Hes the missing link for me, we need zog and erding and a good young striker, maybe a back up right back and if jose leaves a left back (mbengue), cover for tiote for when hes at the acn. Then we are good to go, pace, skill and carpet football.

Tonight, the result of our great game: “what’s Medhi Abeid real position?”
And the winner is…
Well, i don’t remember the name, but those who have bet he’s an offensive midfielder. I got this from a guy on the RC Lens forum who know him. It seems he can also play defensive midfield, but he’s rather an offensive one.
The guy also confirm he got some problem of attitude.

with all those players you say we need can you see us spending 10 mil on Zog??????
Don’t mean to be doom and gloom but i think that as soon as Marveuax signed our interest in Zog ended, expect Fergie to be named in our 25 man squad for next season

Comment #106A word on Mareaux interview. In France, medias told the truth concerning the faillure of the deal with liverpool is somewhere between the version of the player and the rumours.
In fact, the deal have failled due to the will of Liverpool to change the contract agreement, but the new terms were about marveaux’s groin. The club have try to protect himself in case of injury.
Which mean there’s maybe a risk.

Comment #118Jb… I believe ma will pay for a player if they are the right age and have proven they have ability to graham carr. The only reason our transfers are at a positive under ma is because we got relagated and had to sell alot of players to avoid administration. Last season we spent 7 mil on ben arfa and this season we have already bid over 10 mil for gameiro. We will sign another winger, atm we only have 2 (marveaux and jonas) and 2 youngsters( pardew has said fergie shouldnt be playing for the first team so soon and lualua wants to go back to brighton), ben arfa is going to be playing behind a striker.i think we will sign nzog or barnetta but nzog is first choice and he seemsto want to come back which is a good sign.
Niafron… Who is better sissocko or matuidi or tiote?

Comment #120Don’t get me wrong would love to see Zog come back, but taking into account how much he will cost and how thin our squad is in other positions, it seems a stretch to pay 10mil on him. But as I said would be happy IF he came back
