The news on the transfer front probably canceled themselves out today for Geordie fans.
Daniel Sturridge – no Newcastle interest
There was some bad news coming from the local press this afternoon, that Newcastle were not going after 21 year-old Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge.
That was disappointing, because the comments on this site have been very positive for the Birmingham-born striker, and he looked an excellent young striker on loan at Bolton last season.
And Daniel may even be available for a loan spell this season, but Stoke City, WBA and Bolton would like to sign him permanently, and we are told Newcastle are not interested in any oloan signings doe next seaosn.
That makes it even worse, because surely Newcastle would be a more attractive club for the lad, then those three good, but smaller clubs.
If Daniel played like he did for Bolton earlier this year over the next couple of years, he could easily be worth around £20M by then – so why Newcastle are not interested in the lad, we have no idea at all.
What’s Alan Pardew’s cell phone number?
The good news is that it seems Newcastle are serious about trying to bring 25 year-old French International winger Charles N’Zogbia back to Tyneside.
We have to admit we were extremely critical of Charles when he left in January of 2009, after he had an argument with then manager Joe Kinnear, but people change as they grow older and become more mature.
Joey Barton is a good example of that, and his behavior on and off the field last season was exemplary – to Joey’s credit – although we wish he didn’t have that Twitter account of his – where it’s so easy for him to get into trouble by sending out reflexive messages straight from the hip.
Charles, through a “close source”, has made it very clear he would just love to return to Newcastle – a huge club that Charles seems to now fully appreciate, where he may not have fully realized that before, when he was younger.
But in this life, you cannot hold grudges (well you can but it just doesn’t work for anybody involved), and we think Charles would make an exciting signing for Newcastle fans.
If we can get Charles through the door, it would be another top signing for the club – the 4th of the summer – but we are still shocked that Newcastle are not interested in Sturridge.
Well – you win some you lose some – we suppose.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1After spending 3 days round Keilder, out of range of cell phone and net, I rather hoped to come back and hear we had signed Sturridge, and another attacker. Damn!

Comment #2‘Close source’ ‘unnamed club source’ Its all the same, journos making sh1te up to sell their papers.
I still think we’ll be in for Sturridge once Chelsea have signed the strikers they’re after, he won’t be going anywhere before then anyway.

Comment #6Don’t care about sturridge, half a season wouldn’t make me buy a player (wer not liverfool after all)
Zog commin back for 9 is peanuts, think of it this way – sold him for 7m (depending on how much you rate Raylor, haven’t paid his wages for that time and we get a better player back for 2 mill, maybe 4 if Wigan want to break our balls.
We need to see some money spent – replac Carroll? we still haven’t replaced Milner, Oba the list goes on, and all sold for serious money.

Comment #15wey the stats speak for themselves. 7 in 13 for a relegated west ham. In a whole season with the midfield we’re going to have supplying him he could get loads!

Comment #17WWJBD – I am guessing dirty money became black money in translation from chinese to english.
Why not put in 14 for Moses and Zog combined? Thought Moses was looking good in the 2nd half of the season.

Comment #18I’ve read elsewhere a suggestion that we insisted on a ‘sell on’ clause in Zog’s contract with Wigan and that should reduce the ‘differential’ even further in our favour. He’d slot in very well with the increasingly ‘frenglais’ feel of the assembling squad for next season. Hopefully his time away will have stubbed out the petulant side of his character a little at least. The only negative I can imagine him bringing is the ‘my wad’s bigger than your wad’ bitching with his homeland buddies. I think the positives he would bring in terms of pace, flair, assists and goals far outweigh these concerns though! As long as he doesn’t end up anywhere else than here or remaining with Wigan will suit us! His stock is only going to decrease as time goes on…

Comment #24Where other than this blog does it say we are in again for NZogbia???????????
i can’t see any story that says we’re back in for NZogbia.
Also The Chronicle claiming we’re nto in for Sturrudge???? How the hell would they know??? They have absolutely no idea what is going on at Newcastle anymore, not since the Shepherd era…..BUT don’t think for one minute that if Sturridge becomes available we won’t be competing with the likes of l’pool and spurs for his signature.

You’re right about the big boys coming in for him aswell. Still think we’d have the upper hand as Chelsea wouldnt want to sell to spurs being rivals and Sturridge would have to battle for a first team spot at liverfool with judas and suarez there.

Comment #30Guys, not putting a damper on any possible “Marquee” signings but if you look at our last bit of transfer(this window included) business since MA they have being all low key/unknow (more or less) and i believe anymore signings that we do have will be along the same lines..bar maybe the Zig Zig Zog’

I dont know if Nasri and Fab are on their bike and Arsenal have their normal mental breakdown then I think Liverpool will pip them to it.
I would say Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool will be top 4 in that order next season

Comment #37Chelsea Man U and City for top 3 in whatever order (hoping for City as i like big names in the prem .. Messi? PLEASE!) Then it is between arsenal spurs and liverpool. Liverpool could finish 6th again after spending insane amounts. Don’t forget arsenal are signing Gervinho! He’ll do a good job for them. Also if RVP stays fit they’ll defo finish top 4. But who cares. Top 7 for us next year would be unbelievable but achievable

Comment #38WWJBD – funny I reckon (hope) liverpool could struggle. Suarez is a little diamond but hasn’t scored the goals himself, Carroll’s injury still seems to be ongoing and a lot will depend on those two forming a partnership quickly. Adam and Henderson aren’t top 4 players for me. I reckon spurs and liverpool could drop off,, especially if Modric, VDV or Bale depart. Villa could seriously struggle. Chelsea have a lot of rebuilding over the summer, but will be top 4 no doubt. I expect City, Everton and the unwashed could all improve. arsenal – who knows? They still have the best attacking squad on paper with or without cesc… but they seemed very deflated towards the end of last season..
should be open again – here’s hoping we can make an impact and get off to a good start.
