There is more news today in the Northern Echo that Alan Pardew is trying to bring Manchester United’s Darron Gibson to Tyneside.
Darron Gibson – Newcastle and Sunderland target
If you remember a few months ago Darron opened a Twitter account, and it lasted just two hours, as he received significant criticism and abuse from the Red Devils’ fans, saying he wasn’t good enough to wear the shirt – so he wisely closed it down.
The rumor that he is now looking at opening up a web-site, so he can receive even further criticism an abuse, is an unfounded rumor at this point.
😀
We’re not too sure about Darron, and whether he would be a good buy at £5M, so we put up a poll only yesterday.
And with over 1500 votes already cast – 63% think he would not be a good buy for Newcastle, with 22% saying he would be, and quite a large 15% undecided.
The news in the Northern Echo us that Newcastle are not interested in 33-year-old Birmingham City captain Barry Ferguson, who was a previous target two or three years ago.
Barry’s too old at 33 and past his best too, so it would be fairly obvious that the Tyneside club would not be interested in this player.
But it would appear that Darron Gibson will not be viewed as a good buy by the majority of Newcastle fans, if our poll is anywhere near accurate.
And the poll is still open if you haven’t yet voted – with one vote per reader.
Maybe Sunderland should win this particular race for this player.
Comments welcome.

But with reflection Gibson may have been viewed as a weak link in the Man United team but it’s a strong squad and he kept his place for a lot of matches.
I wouldn’t complain if we bought him
We need at least one player with EPL and European experience. Especially if Barton is sold.

Comment #3We have far too many CMs already and this lad just will not get a game.
Would rather our youth play in cups etc than him.
He’s rightly slated for being so uneconomical with the ball at United.

Comment #11Striker being announced later this week I am told. Looking like an international who is quite fast and skilful.
There was meant to be another player announced but things ghave stalled but still trying apparently.
Fingers crossed that all will be happy with the new addition and that he makes the US trip on time.

The Potters could also miss out on Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge having been told it would take £20m to take him to the Britannia Stadium.

Comment #17I just think its a decent number. Its not too high in comparison to the mugging liverfool got with AC, yet its big enough to get rid of alot of competition eg stoke, mackems west brom.
Also don’t think he would go to any of the top 6 teams, mainly because chelsea probably wouldnt allow it, also because he’s far less garunteed a first team place.
Ideal Friday would be the announcement of Sturridge, Zoggy and Taylor haha, or is that just very wishful thinking?

Comment #18I really think Ashley was budgeting £10m for two strikers – buying Erdinc and taking Sturridge on loan. Don’t believe we will offer £12m for Sturridge and Chelsea are asking £20m. Any offer for Sturridge would mean he would be the only striker bought this year. Yet another reprieve for Shola!

Comment #19sidekick, are you forgetting Ba?
Everyone seems to write him off because he was a free. He signed for West Ham in January for £7m, then went on to score 7 in 13 games. How much do you think he would’ve cost if they didnt get relegated, at least £10m I’d say.
Still think we’re the most likely choice to get sturridge like.

Comment #20If we are buying (again) a new midfielder, maybe it does not have to be better than Gibson. I mean, Gibson would be good backup-player, but if he will come to Newcastle, he should know that right now he wouldn’t even fit on the bench, as there are already Goslings etc. At the moment, IMO we don’t need to use 13 millions on Matuidis or Sissokos, our midfield is FINE when it comes to quality (Cabaye, Tiote, Barton, …). But I agree that we have many crocks (Gosling, HBA, etc), if they get any setbacks during the season, I hope that we’ll have enough backupmen so we wouldn’t have to use players like Colo in midfield.
Gibson is 23-years-old, he can still improve. He is very experienced player. But still think that 5 million is too much for backup/rotation -player, I would try to loan him with an option to buy for 3 million.
There must have been very much pressure on his shoulders during his time at Manure, one of the world’s biggest clubs and if you have one bad game, fans are already biting you. Difficult situation to overcome for such a young lad.
Hopefully you got the point, despite possible grammar mistakes.

Comment #23Ah right, its just when you said Sturridge would be the only striker bought this year, thought you’d forgotten about Ba.
To be honest we probably only need one more striker like. Ba, Sturridge/Erdinc?, Best, Shola, Loven, Ranger, Airey.
That would be Ba and S/E as first choice strikers.
Best and Ranger as backup.
Shola and Loven for desperatation.
And Airey could play Rangers role last season of getting alot of sub appearences.

Comment #27Trapitoni likes him and said that he needed to get off the Manure bench to inprove and play regular first team football. I would’nt mind what the twats on twatter said, after all they had Keane and to replace him they got Carrick and Andeson who lets face it are shite, so he was on a hiding to nothing replacing them. He never got more than 5 games in a row under the crittical eye of the Manure perfectionists who fail to realize nobodys as good as Keane. I’de say he’s 1 or 2 ml if he plays regular.
