Wigan owner Dave Whelan has said that Charles N’Zogbia is available to the first club that comes up with the required £10M to buy him.
Charles N’Zogbia – other clubs interested
There was news late last week that Wigan were looking to bid £2.5M for Newcastle’s Wayne Routledge, and if that’s the case, it would take a little over £7M in cash plus Wayne to bring Chalies back to Tyneside.
And if we are to believe all the reports earlier this summer, the French International would love to return.
This is what Whelan said yesterday:
“Villa are not the sole bidders, there are another couple of clubs who are desperate to sign him.”
“It depends how much they can pay up front, because we have got to re-spend that £10million this season just to replace Charles.”
“I have always said for £10million he is an absolute snip, if Downing can change hands for £20million I don’t know what Charles is worth.”
“He is the fastest, most direct wide player in the Premier League and I have always asked for £10million and hopefully we will get it and he will move on and be happy.”
“He only has 12 months left on his contract. I would love to keep him, he is a great lad and a fantastic player, but everything being as it is we have to be sensible and if we get a decent offer.”
“And Charles wants to go, as usual I will honour what the player wants and let him go.” “The team have gone to Austria, but Zoggy hasn’t gone,”
“He is a great lad to have around the club. If we do lose him, and we may well do, because he has expressed a desire to move on, we will miss him enormously.”
“But he is a great asset for any football club who wants him.”
And Charles himself has entered the fray and said he is certianly not on strike:
“It has been two and a half years. I have given enough.” “If they want any more it is for the club to decide. It is not for me to demand a transfer.”
“Me, strike? Not at all. Come and see me at Wigan, you will see that I train every day.”
“There was an offer from Villa, which Wigan refused. I have not been offered a contract extension by the club.”
The other clubs said to be interested, in addition to Villa, include Sunderland, Everton and yes – Newcastle.
But there are reports coming out of the club, that the hierarchy (that’s Ashley and Llambias) have already told Alan Pardew the lad is too expensive.
So we’ll have to wait and see what materializes, but it would be heresy if he ended up at Sunderland.
And of cause Steve Bruce bought him from Newcastle in January of 2009, for £6M plus Ryan Taylor.
But the Sunday Sun today are reporting that he is indeed too expensive at £10M and Newcastle will not be going back in for him, even though he was a genuine target earlier this summer, before the £10m asking price.
Why is £10M too expensive?
Comments welcome.

Comment #45Howay Jarvis would be wanting a pay bump if he was sold and being he has a english cap now 60k a week wouldn’t be out of the question for what he would be asking for
Weiss still has a lot to learn and has very little PL experience
Lee would be good but can’t see Bolton letting him leave

Comment #47Kranjcar’s best and favoured postion is CAM not on the wing. And he is the only player you have mentioned who is anywhere near N’Zogbia, however Spurs want £12million for him so how is he better value

Comment #48much rather have barton on the right and put the cash into a top striker , we have enough midfielders that can do a good job, get barton a new contract sorted

Comment #49i think the main reason we aren’t signing nzogbia is
ashley would have to pay wigan,
more money than what he sold him for.

As much as would like to see zog back, i would feel much better if we strengthened the areas that we are weak in. A striker, lb or cover and maybe a cb cover. Wings, i think we have enough players to cover in terms of injury. So, i would rather prefer a striker and def.

Comment #51Areas we are weak in…we don’t have a RW barring Gutti who is played on the left
How aren’t we weak there?

Comment #52@wwjbd- guti will most probably be played on right this time. Barton, gosling are good enough covers. Maybe even abeid- sameobi is coming through. Lets just say wings are not our biggest headaches atm.

Comment #53Thing is he won’t Pards said Marv will be competition for Gutti on the left
That leaves no one on the right. We needed 2 strikers, a RW and a LB and of those 4 positions that needed filling we have 1 striker
RW is up there with another striker in importance for me like

Comment #54I hope we sign N’Zogbia, having bid 12m in the last transfer window surely 10m represents a bargain now, I’m hoping any delay in buying him is down to the club driving a hard bargain to get him as cheap as possible!

I havent posted on here for a couple of years but read the comments pretty much every day and was wondering what you’se thought of this bull about Nzogbia being to expensive at 10 million,so what does that make the 12 million we bid a couple of hours after Carroll got sold,I’m really surprised that hasn’t been mentioned in one of Ed’s thousand headlines about how Zog would like to come back, appreciate any views on this

Comment #56So long as we get bloody SOMEBODY. I’m worried that we’re minding our pennies in negotiations for each of these players (N’Zogbia, Erdinc, Long) and the result will be that we’ll be outbid for each of them.

Comment #59First of all I may have to apologize if I have missed any of this in the past… BUT!!!, how come Zog is being deemed to expensive by the FCB? Did we or did we not offer 12mil at the end of January for him as AC was getting fitted for his new shell suit??
Its plain and completely obvious that FCB is treating the club like a business so why doesn’t he show us that by bidding Routledge plus cash and get AP his man, if AP is actually wanting Zog
The FCB baffles me but hopefully he will deliver us something to shout about next season or in the build up to the start of it??
I live in hope!!! HWTL
We can only get behind the team and (like most of us do!) and show them our support, the FCB make me sick to the stomach as he strips the club of all its beliefs and heritage but until he goes we have to stick with the lads, as far Jose, I cant blame him for wanting to be away to a certain level, the club(the FCB and Derek LIMP biscuit) have shown not a lot of ambition in run up to the start so like I said, WE ALL LIVE IN HOPE!!!
Stay faithful lads, our time will come!! LOL
