News today in the local papers that Newcastle are preparing to sign French defender Danny Situ.
Danny Situ – 20 year-old defender to sign on at Newcastle
The 20 year-old impressive French Youth International defender has apparently done well a trial on Tyneside, and will now be joining his former team-mate at Lens, Mehdi Abeid at Newcastle.
Abeid was signed as a free agent in the summer.
Newcastle are said to be close to a deal for the player, that will have Newcastle pay more than £250K up front to Lens, with various additions to that, depending on how well Danny does at Newcastle.
While Newcastle fans were used to big signings during the Freddy Shepherd era, these deals are the important ones at Newcastle these days, and Danny could be pressing for a first team position very soon, and it’s good to see a defender signed.
Rather than pay out say £15M for a player, Newcastle hope to now produce them on Tyneside, by getting top youngsters into the club early – that’s the strategy anyway.
But we knew about Danny before he arrived on trial, and he’s a very good player indeed.
Danny’s a top French youngster, who will initially be part of the development squad, much like Abeid is, but Mehdi is already pushing to get into the first team picture.
Daniel Situ-Buyente (Danny Situ) stands 6’2″ tall and is a leader on and off the field, who has captained all the French youth sides he has played in, and he scored one of Newcastle’s goals in their 5-0 win over Gateshead Reserves last week.
Danny was born in Rouen in March, 1992, is of Congolese descent and plays as a center back or as a defensive midfielder, and the lad is known for his robust physique and sheer physical strength.
Situ looks a top prospect and has played at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels for France.
Nothing yet regarding the other Lens youngster who is on trial at Newcastle, 19 year-old William Rémy, who is also a French Youth International.
It’s good news that Danny is coming to Newcastle, and he’s another one scouted by Graham Carr.
Comments welcome.

Comment #7Right before everyone gets overly excited he is a french defender with NO first team appearences
The french game is very different to the PL and he will need a fair amount of time to adapt…I assume he is (like Abied) one for the future

Comment #8@Wendall-You didn’t answer my question and your mising the point, If Raylor is our starting LB and our backup RB then how can he cover the RW as well? He cant so according to you that leaves Obertan and Gosling. Gosling is a CM and that’s where he wants to play. Obertan is actually a LW and while i’m sure he’s willing to play down the right it’s just more square pegs in round holes. But I’m sure your happy with our massive squad…

Comment #10Anyone seen much of Kevin Mirallas? He’s a nippy player with great dribbling feet. Knows exactly where the next is and stuck in a goal every 1.8games last season.
Maybe not as a direct striker but he is certainly better than Ameobi, Best, Lovenkrands. And equally as good as Ba on form. Can play right wing too if necessary.
Shouldn’t cost too much. Olympiakos only paid £3.4m for him last season. £5-6M could get us a deal.

Comment #14Brilliant news, the lad looks good. Plus if he is anything like the player Abeid is, then he will be in the first team in no time.
This lad was wanted by Real Madrid, ManUre and Arsenal to name but a few.

Comment #19Joey Barton is full of it with a capital SH!
Signing for a club almost certain to be back in the fizzy pop next season saying “Don’t want to leave Newcastle”, funny that, if he didn’t want to leave, he wouldn’t sign the contract with them!
Some players are so full of it!

Comment #21@Geordie-Jake- The Chron’s been reporting were close to signing someone only to pour cold water on it the very next day all summer long. I wouldn’t get my hopes up. As for Situ, “It is a transfer similar to the one that brought Mehdi Abeid to Newcastle from the same French club, with Situ seen as being part of the development squad” We should concentrate on our starting 11 first and then sign developmental players but I guess doing things this way is much cheaper.

Will you regain your respect for Barton when he comes to St James and assists Bothroyd in turning us over?
I am narked with him for leaving but I respect the man for everything he did on the pitch and in the back room for our squad. For getting us back into the league, for keeping us in it, for playing his heart out for fickle fans and for fighting against the Ashley regime

So we cant buy other players because we need a LB and a ST? Young defender becomes available and they believe he has a chance to make it but we pass on the opportunity as we need other positions? Would you rather that happened?

Comment #25I said last night before Joey Barton might be going that if no players were brought in or any first teamers were sold that after the Fulham game which I already have a ticket for that I will not go to another game while Ashleys in charge ,looks like Joey will seal my fate today

Im not one of those that is going to slag off Barton as I like him as a player, but he did have his limitations, and I did not agree with some of the things he said on Twitter, also think he has been stringing fans along with his comments about wanting to stay.
But you said you respected him for getting us back into Prem, he did not play much part in champ season injured most of it then average when he did play, was good last season which I am thankful to him for but I dont think he will be missed as much as some think.

Comment #29Reports from across The Channel suggest that Newcastle United is ‘cooling’ on Modibo Maiga and is instead looking at a couple of other French strikers.
The rumour-mill in the French press is alleging that our interest in Modibo Maiga is cooling but that we’re chasing other players in France’s Ligue 1.
Two names have been suggested by French hacks and they’re Nolan Roux and Guillaume Hoarau.

We were reborn in the Championship because our Hughton Nolan Harper Barton and Smith. They stood up and called for the other disheartened players to get their act together….those who couldnt left and we walked back into this league with a swagger.
I think in the hard games the ones we go behnid we will miss Barton and Nolan a great deal
