Peter Lovenkrands Comes In For The Suspended Gutierrez

A bit of surprise in the Newcastle side today to face Chelsea, as Peter Lovenkrands has been drafted in to replace the suspended Jonas Gutierrez, and Sammy Ameobi is on the bench.

And that’s the only enforced change from the team that started against Manchester United last Saturday, and miraculously came away with a well earned point.

It had been expected that young Sammy Ameobi would be a straight replacement for Jonas, but Peter must have been impressive in training this week,  and the experienced Danish International striker gets the nod.

Danny Guthrie will again deputize for the still injured Cheick Tiote, and Danny will need to be at his best to try to win over the midfield for Newcastle against a top Chelsea side.

Leon Best is fit again and takes his place on the bench, and he’s likely to see some action in the second half today in front of a capacity crowd. Steve Harper is back on the bench for Newcastle after completing his one month loan spell at Brighton.

For Chelsea Daniel Sturridge and Dider Drogba start up front for the Pensioners, and captain John Terry and Frank Lampard also start.

The London side will be going all out for the win today, after losing three of their last five league games, and a win will put them back into 4th position in the table and above Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands; Hatem Ben Arfa; Demba Ba
Substitutes: Steve Harper, Davide Santon, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Sammy Ameobi, Leon Best, Shola Ameobi

Chelsea: (4-3-3): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz, John Terry (c), Ashley Cole; Ramires, Oriol Romeu, Frank Lampard; Daniel Sturridge, Didier Drogba, Juan Mata
Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, Jose Bosingwa, Ryan Bertrand, Raul Meireles, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou, Fernando Torres

Krul MOTM, we’ve lost 2-0 – that says it all.

Here’s where the season gets really tough, our covering players are not up to scratch.

Ryan Taylor cannot start another game for us. Santon has to come in. Ryan Taylor is useless.

In January we need cover for CB, LB, RB, Striker and Defensive midfield

We’ve hit the bar twice, the post once. Been scammed by the ref. Now they’ve just got a 2nd goal while Taylor was down injured. This time lastyear the game would have been finished at half time. Shows how far we have come now start having some belief in our players am just glad your not at the stadium putting them down all the time

As I said earlier though, this game is marred by the Luiz decision, which twists the whole outcome.

Why do I bother with football? Someone tell me.

Well. We should forget about these last 3 games and start winning again.

This is the low of our season so far. Just bad performance in the defense and offense.

Still. We can win some game now next. Just need to forget about these 3 games.

Our lucky penalty against ManUtd, came back to bite us today. Not one decision gone our way from Mike Dean. He should add 45 min of extra time for Chelsea stall.
Lost both cb as well, mayhaps the luck of the season is up now.

Fron the start they were always better than us today, and ironically i think they were the easiest for the taking. Luiz should have been sent off and maybe the game would have been differently. We were poor very poor. Obertan and Ben Arfa were inneffective today. Krul was our best player and it says alot when you give motm to a keeper.

Yes, but such things happen in football. And it do not explain how bad we played after that.
They were the better side, that’s all.

0-3 disappointing … flatters Chelsea, but we didn’t take our opportunities and we were poor in defence once Collo came off. Some thinking to do for the transfer window.

Yep no luck, bad refereeing decisions; hope Mike Dean looks back at this game today and admits he got it wrong.

    One point from nine …

I want 12 points for the next games against Norwich [a], Swansea [h], West Brom [h], Bolton [a].

    Fcuk 0-3

Guess we’re all going to have a crap afternoon now…

no argument Chelsea were the better team by far, but they get a lucky break in Luiz staying on which changes the whole game for them

thought Krul was amazing, simpson played well, Saylor was great, thought perch put in a good shift, raylor was a disgrace. Obertan was a disgrace. Why on earth Loven came off instead of obertan i have no idea. The Ameobis put in a good game each and we were so bloody unlucky with hitting the post, but they had a few similar occasions too. sigh… Such a shame it went to 3-0, i felt it was an unfair scoreline.

i no longer think we are a top 6 team i see use as a birmingham city team that rely totally on defending so
pardew please get some decent forwards in january and as so many hate r taylor as a lb put him where obatan is and play santon as the lb

Agree that Obertan gives us nothing.
He has all the ability in the world but doesn`t use it.
He is well able to do what sturridge was doing up the line but he just puts his heed down n passes backwards 🙁

Perhaps these last 3 games were a reality check for us as we are not a Champions League side by a long way, if we can pick ourselves up and take 7/8 by the end of the season it would have been a brilliant year for us
