Peter Lovenkrands Comes In For The Suspended Gutierrez

A bit of surprise in the Newcastle side today to face Chelsea, as Peter Lovenkrands has been drafted in to replace the suspended Jonas Gutierrez, and Sammy Ameobi is on the bench.

And that’s the only enforced change from the team that started against Manchester United last Saturday, and miraculously came away with a well earned point.

It had been expected that young Sammy Ameobi would be a straight replacement for Jonas, but Peter must have been impressive in training this week,  and the experienced Danish International striker gets the nod.

Danny Guthrie will again deputize for the still injured Cheick Tiote, and Danny will need to be at his best to try to win over the midfield for Newcastle against a top Chelsea side.

Leon Best is fit again and takes his place on the bench, and he’s likely to see some action in the second half today in front of a capacity crowd. Steve Harper is back on the bench for Newcastle after completing his one month loan spell at Brighton.

For Chelsea Daniel Sturridge and Dider Drogba start up front for the Pensioners, and captain John Terry and Frank Lampard also start.

The London side will be going all out for the win today, after losing three of their last five league games, and a win will put them back into 4th position in the table and above Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands; Hatem Ben Arfa; Demba Ba
Substitutes: Steve Harper, Davide Santon, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Sammy Ameobi, Leon Best, Shola Ameobi

Chelsea: (4-3-3): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz, John Terry (c), Ashley Cole; Ramires, Oriol Romeu, Frank Lampard; Daniel Sturridge, Didier Drogba, Juan Mata
Substitutes: Ross Turnbull, Jose Bosingwa, Ryan Bertrand, Raul Meireles, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou, Fernando Torres

Some of you don’t half clutch at straws. How many one on one’s did Chelsea miss. Cheap frenchies being found out now – Cabaye too slow and finished on onr leg, Obertan crap, and Ben Arfa too lightweight for this league. Why the hell did we pay good money for a full back but still playing raylor,

Very bad result. We should have won today. Wasn’t any solidarity in midfield and the lads played without any cleverness.

Too much space, bad decisions, lot of technicals errors…

We were out of the game.

I will not say anything more about our left flank, but i must add our midfield totaly failed today.

@Steve_48 I am planning a good afternoon since we are going to get drunk on our employers bill hehe. And he also hates Chelsea. I said I would be happy for 1 point from the last 3 matches, but I did not count on it coming at Old Traford

What’s this with us having an aweful match, did u watch it?
We more than held our own, had the most possesion, and came to more than one chance.
The team was good, individuals let us down, there’s a limit to how many goals from personal mistakes Tim Krul will save.
We looked tired towards the end, and losing Collo that early ruined the day.

Perch, give him away, Raylor, if he starts next match i’ll throw a fit.
Shola, back to his same old antics of not doing shit.
    Otherwise, i can’t complain.

Squad size now going to be a major factor but I think Perch deserves a mention. No Coloccini or Saylor but he did very well indeed imho. Good on ya Perchy.

Tim krul=best goalkeeper in premiership expect him to be at a big club in the near future.he is the new edwin van der sarr no doubt.
Ba=one of the best strikers we have had in long time i think caroll and ba fee got mixed up ba should be worth the 35 million and caroll should be worth 0 if i had to pick between those 2 players i pick ba all the time.

scoreline chelsea 3 newcastle 0=on another day it could of been chelsea 10 newcastle 3 so no the chelsea didnt flatter them far from it.

we have lost our 2 defenders in central defence and guess who we can rely on the powerhouse of james perch who should what a great header of the ball he is when drogba scored your suppose to head the ball before the goal goes in not after it goes in.

final point is obertan is the worst singing we have ever made.

no doubt he has pace but ive studied his performance very closely today and other games and he cant beat a man and he cant cross a ball the only cross ive seen that was good was against stoke he is a truly awful player he might work hard back but is awful going forward i wish we had another robert who knows how to beat a man and get a cross in obertan has no confidence in his ability atall.

cabaye and guthrie pinged all there balls over to him and not once did he give ameobi or ba a ball to feed on.

what a total shambles today was.

if colo and taylor dont come back quick and i mean both of them then expect us to go down the table rather quickly on a wimper

No shame in that, woodwork 3 times, off the line and holding Chelsea quite comfortably in the 2nd half until Saylor’s injury. Anyone see him hobbling back for Kalou’s, never had a chance.

Well you could argue we should have lost last week and taken a point this week but still disappointing none the less.

Really worried about Saylor & Collo, without them I begin to worry. Santon needs to be bedded in in the coming weeks, £5m and he’s not gonna sit on the bench all year.

Positives today: Guthrie, Cabaye, Lovenkrands all looked decent without being stunning. Thought Ba was slightly off form, Shola did well when he came on & was unlucky not to score.

Negatives: Raylor’s defending, lost count how often Sturridge got in behind. OBERTAN – I swap Loven over next week to the right when Gutti is back. Cannot reiterate how annoyed I am with Obertan, consistently ballsed up his final ball.

Mata caused us lots of problems, they went for raylor and it exposed him…against the top teams it shows he is not good enough.

more worryingly are centre backs are came off through injury…feck!!

We need a LB that`s able to use his left peg.
We need a CB or 2 by the looks of it.
Why did SAF get rid of Ober??
Look at todays game for answers.
We could employ Benny there as he will go past players, strange decision to take him off i thought.

Cabaye should not take the corners, I agree, Not one was threatening.

Why Lovenkrands came off instead of Obertan was puzzling. Lover was offering something. Obertan absolutely nothing.

The big thing is we need to buy in January. Have to buy. Pieters needs to come in so we can banish Ryan Taylor. We need another Centre Back for depth. We need a striker. And we generally have to get more depth.

Top 6 is still a chance, but only if we get depth.

Snapshot by Ba . Cech great save.
    Cleared off line from Sammy.

We played really well second half – unlucky.
Cabaye & Guthrie tired last ten minutes, but no subs left.

Tough game but we’ll bounce back.

i worry about injuries of coloccini and steven taylor, newcastle had a very good game, deserved a better result.

i think g.carr would hold his hand up and admit he made a mistake on obertan. worst signing of the season. gets into promising positions by sprinting and gives the ball away. and its almost half way thru the season.

    @jackbutler

yea obertan wishes he can play like sturridge. maybe he should start wearing sturrudge’s socks for a start. lol.

He is a lightweight and will have problems against the powerful strikers around.
    Hope Tayls has only cramp.
Santon will have to be thrown in now, possibly at CB

    Ahah!

THis is still a good team, with good players. There’s a lot of teachings coming from this game.

If they work hard, they can correct their mistakes. Pard and the staff would probably have some discussions with the player about our faillure of today.

If they are smart enough, they will learn a lot from today’s game.
