Peter Lovenkrands Comes In For The Suspended Gutierrez

A bit of surprise in the Newcastle side today to face Chelsea, as Peter Lovenkrands has been drafted in to replace the suspended Jonas Gutierrez, and Sammy Ameobi is on the bench.

And that’s the only enforced change from the team that started against Manchester United last Saturday, and miraculously came away with a well earned point.

It had been expected that young Sammy Ameobi would be a straight replacement for Jonas, but Peter must have been impressive in training this week,  and the experienced Danish International striker gets the nod.

Danny Guthrie will again deputize for the still injured Cheick Tiote, and Danny will need to be at his best to try to win over the midfield for Newcastle against a top Chelsea side.

Leon Best is fit again and takes his place on the bench, and he’s likely to see some action in the second half today in front of a capacity crowd. Steve Harper is back on the bench for Newcastle after completing his one month loan spell at Brighton.

For Chelsea Daniel Sturridge and Dider Drogba start up front for the Pensioners, and captain John Terry and Frank Lampard also start.

The London side will be going all out for the win today, after losing three of their last five league games, and a win will put them back into 4th position in the table and above Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands; Hatem Ben Arfa; Demba Ba
Substitutes: Steve Harper, Davide Santon, James Perch, Dan Gosling, Sammy Ameobi, Leon Best, Shola Ameobi

Chelsea: (4-3-3): Petr Cech; Branislav Ivanovic, David Luiz, John Terry (c), Ashley Cole; Ramires, Oriol Romeu, Frank Lampard; Daniel Sturridge, Didier Drogba, Juan Mata

    SERIOUS QUESTION HERE:

If worst comes to worst, and both Saylor and Collo are out next week, what on earth will we do? Who would we play, Perch + Kadar?

Well, the result doesn’t say anything about this game. I think Chelsea didn’t even deserve a draw, not to say a win. We were unlucky – VERY unlucky today, and the ref. was no comment, made some huge mistakes. I think Pards didn’t use his subs well today either, but this happens. He’s not a God so can make mistakes, but if the team responds well and we beat the ones we should, we’ll have no problems getting back to Europe.

We will rise against Norwich, no doubt about that. Again, expecting allot of changes. Did anyone see Pardews signs language towards Raylor after Sturridge past him for the 4th time?
“That’s the 4th time, come on!” then he shook his head in disbelief, Santon must start!!

Disappointed? in the referee. Was a defo red card and he bottled it.The team spirit was still there, the worst player for us today was defo Obertan, but as someone else pointed out he didn’t have much support.Perch did well except for the first goal and I believe Cabaye will improve once Tiote is back doing the dm shift. Also bring Santon in for Taylor next match just to see if he is good enough and Guti will be back too which will help us out defensively.obviously I hope Colo and S.Taylor will be fine because we need them.

niafron this might be a good team as a starting eleven but think man it is not a good team in size
    reasons
A if ba is injured we have no decent forward
B we rely on a championship player as cover for cb
C gutierezze is the only wide man decent
D plus knowing cashley we will loose krul, tiote and colo in january

Big question today is why didn`t LUIZ get a red????
Woulda been a different game as they would have to take off a striker

Alex – I never ever said that Santon would be out for months – you’ve got yhe wrong person. I’m afraid that an awful ot of you on here should go to matches for a change, instead of sitting on your arses in front of a computer. you might learn something about the game.

A bit disappointed about the result cos I felt we could get at least a point. We got only half changes and our crosses were bad. Tim Krul was immense again and without him we could have conceded five or six goals.

Very concerned about the injuries to our back four. Perch was a fault Chelseas first goal but played ok after then. For me he isn’t CB because he is so lightweight but can do the job as a DM last twenty minutes or so when we are leading a game.

Don’t exepct any sympathi from me if thats what u’re going for. U’re one of them people that just sits around waiting for a chance to pounce. Your statement is so horribly horribly wrong, crawl back under the rock u came from, “cheap frenchies”, Cabaye is an international for goodness sake.
Those frenchies are better than a shitload of the overpaid english players floating about, Andy Carroll?
What an awful statement from u *shivers*

In Ba we have one of the best strikers in the prem on his own he is always a threat in a 2 even more so.

4-4-2 is our best formation we gave it a really good go in the 2nd half and with Messi(shola) we looked like we would get at least a draw.

Krul is amazing and his kicking was perfect what a world class keeper.

    Saylor better than Terry,Rio,Cahill.

Guthries improved ridiculously and Perch well played did well.

Marty – agree about Luiz – but hey, we got the luck last week. If it wasn’t for Krul we would have lost heavily both weeks. The defence has played well as a unit, but that falls apart when one or two individuals lose their discipline. Pardew has just said that Saylor doesn’t look good and colo has done his thigh, just as I told you earler.

Hilarious isn’t it. One loss to one of the best team in the league and it’ll be summer all over again!

    “Cheap frenchies being found out”
“Ben arfa too light weight for the prem”
    “Cabaye too slow”

Cabaye is a million miles from ne of the slowest players in the league, and light weight? More so than Mata, Silva, Modric, Gervinho, Walcott etc???

Might have to avoid this blog for a few days until the nutters go away again.

I thought we were unlucky today, we were still in the game up until Saylor had to leave the pitch. I think Williamson is due back in two weeks. One thing that worries me is if Saylor and Colo are both out for the next game we might have to bring in Kadar and Perch together…. Norwich shouldn’t be underestimated either. Holt is a very powerful and physical striker, I’m afraid we won’t have anyone to deal with his threat at all.

The line up next week should be: (taking into account no saylor or colo)

    Krul
    Simpson, Perch, Kadar, Santon
    HBA, Guthrie, Cabaye, Jonas,
    Best and Ba

Sammy is decent, has a lot to learn but has loads of tricks and gets the ball in or gets us corners.
Loven also was good on the ball and direct today.
We also have Rayls that can play well on RW.
Guti is back next game n he\s more than decent.
The LB spot is a problem at the mo,we`re getting found out big time there n it holds Guti back from makin runs because of the weakness there.
Shola and Ba was a good lookin partnership today.
    Play Benny on the wing!!!!
He played there loads in France n got by playeers all the time

Thought we deserved to lose today, not by such a score line, but realistically we were poor! Don’t think sending Luis off would have made great deal of difference, why? We carried Obertan for 90 mins, Ben Arfa for 45 and cabaye for 45!
Obertan must be dropped. You can have all the fancy footwork in the world, doesn’t make you a good player!
5th in league, would love season to end now!

Tend to agree with ToondownSouth (poor you), on the whole the French lads have played well this season. Not quite sure we would like a side full of the talents of Perch et al. Clearly Cabaye and HBA are decent players and the latter had some nice touches today (not quite sure why he came off when Raylor and Obertan stayed on).

    (1) As noted before – Raylor was caught napping too many times where the number is greater than zero – not that pace was his problem, but he was caught out of position too many times which added to Colo’s/Saylor’s workloads.
    (2) I thought that AP had brought in the philosophy of position football – this display was the antithesis of this, gave the ball away too many times especially in midfield.

The remedies are straight forward if we are to be a European place side – more strength in depth retain the nucleus of good players we have (Tiote, Cabaye, Saylor, Colo, HBA etc), dispose of the deadweights (Raylor, Perch etc) and but to ensure depth.

The cynical press will now be saying we have been found out, but the management team need some credit for getting us this far – they need to be backed by the owners.
