Peter Lovenkrands Comes In For The Suspended Gutierrez

A bit of surprise in the Newcastle side today to face Chelsea, as Peter Lovenkrands has been drafted in to replace the suspended Jonas Gutierrez, and Sammy Ameobi is on the bench.

And that’s the only enforced change from the team that started against Manchester United last Saturday, and miraculously came away with a well earned point.

It had been expected that young Sammy Ameobi would be a straight replacement for Jonas, but Peter must have been impressive in training this week,  and the experienced Danish International striker gets the nod.

Danny Guthrie will again deputize for the still injured Cheick Tiote, and Danny will need to be at his best to try to win over the midfield for Newcastle against a top Chelsea side.

Leon Best is fit again and takes his place on the bench, and he’s likely to see some action in the second half today in front of a capacity crowd. Steve Harper is back on the bench for Newcastle after completing his one month loan spell at Brighton.

For Chelsea Daniel Sturridge and Dider Drogba start up front for the Pensioners, and captain John Terry and Frank Lampard also start.

The London side will be going all out for the win today, after losing three of their last five league games, and a win will put them back into 4th position in the table and above Newcastle.

Howay The Lads!!

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Ryan Taylor; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands; Hatem Ben Arfa; Demba Ba

We’re getting good change out of the long balls to Ba, keep it up.

I would bring Obertan off for Gosling.

On Mike Dean, he’s usually quite a good ref for us. #disappointed

Lovenkrands needs to stop drifting away from his position, missing Guits greatly.

The replay showed it came off Raylor so that’s a bit easier to swallow. That Luiz decision has my blood pressure up though.

We cannot hold on to that. Except the Luiz red that was yellow, and the 2 chances from Ba, we didn’t have anything so far.

I think HBA has been quite decent, he’s always looking for gaps and actually releases intelligent passes.

Obertan is incredibly poor, I know Pardew felt we lacked pace but what we have now is a slightly faster but unbelievably poorer than Wayne Routledge. I hope Pardew’s pride doesn’t make him stick with Obertan.

It’s decisions like that Luiz one, which makes me think, why bother with football?

The amount of ridiculous decisions each season, just makes a farce of the table. They don’t even themselves out.

Without colo and jonas we look like a very poor side and have been outplayed by chelsea and had it not been for the fantastic krul we could easily be down 3-0 or 4-0

perch is a poor player and for him to be the replacment for colo just shows how weak our squad is.

the only postive i can take from this game is what a great goalkeeper we have and we still can score a goal in the 2nd half with the menecning ba he is so dangerous.

the best thing we can do now is take off lovenkrands put taylor on the left and put santon at left back take off obertan who is useless to be honest and put best up front with ba and get at sideshow bob.

Missing another man upfront. Ba is alone. HBA is not doing his part unfortunately, I am such a fan of this lad but he is not doing the job.

And what will happen with our defense? Krul and S.T are the only one who you can count on.

Lucky us this game (just as against Man U) that they are not scoring more. Only 1-0? They had 6-7 real chances. Pen, 3 Sturr, Drogba, and some others.

C’mon lads, it’s not only about one or two players. We must consider the performance of the team as a whole.

Too much spaces between our lines. Was a poor tactical performance.

Also, we lose too much balls far from their goals.

So this is perfect for them. They got the ball back in good position with a lot of space to reach top speed. Once they are running, difficult to stop players like Sturridge and Mata.
