Along with Fabricio Coloccini saying last night he thinks he can make the game on Saturday at Norwich, Alan Pardew has said this morning Colo does have a chance to play at Carrow Road.
Alan Pardew – Coloccini is 50-50 for Saturday
That’s been the good and rather surprising news this morning, and we have to hope the Argentine can indeed make the game, but according to the Newcastle manager his chances of playing are no better than 50-50.
This is what Pardew told the local press this morning:
“We’re really hoping that Colo is fit. He’s got a 50-50 chance, we’ll have to see.” “The morale in the camp has been one of disappointment because of the way the game went against Chelsea.”
“And on top of that we lose Steven Taylor, a major blow.” “We’re hoping we can use that to inspire us now and show Steven that we can do it without him. “
It’s Newcastle’s great team spirit which will again be on show on Saturday, and if we can get anything out of the game, it would be a good result.
The initial word on Coloccini’s thigh injury was that he would be out for two weeks, and of course we’ll not know if he’ll make it until the team is announced around 45 minutes before the 3:00 pm kick-off on Saturday.
Depending on whether Colo is in the side or not will determine how good our chances are of getting something out of the game.
But the very fact that both Coloccini and the usually conservative Alan Pardew have said the Newcastle captain could indeed play, gives us a hint that he must have a decent chance of making it on Saturday, which would be tremendous.
A win at Norwich would be a good tonic and have Newcastle keeping up with the top six in the Premier League.
Alan has also said for the first time that it looks like Steven Taylor will indeed be out for the season, after having an operation on his injured Achilles on Monday:
“It’s a real shame for him.” “Everybody is disappointed for him.”
“It’s a blow as I say, but I really can’t see him playing again this season unfortunately.”
It must be very difficult for Steven to take, with all the injuries he’s had over the last couple of years,
But of course he must now concentrate on getting fit for the pre-season, and by that time we have to hope that the Newcastle squad has been further strengthened over the summer.
What makes us just a little bit positive on Coloccini is that he was withdrawn very early in the game against Chelsea, and so limited the damage done to his thigh, but as we said before, we’ll not know if he will play until the team is announced on Saturday.
Here’s hoping.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Jonas is back and Tiote could also play,so despite the absences at the back we have a midfield and attack that could overwhelm Norwich especially since we tend to have more of the ball away at teams that try to attack us; A.Villa away was one of the best possession football we’ve played in awhile. Aye, still gutted for Saylor, love his defensive “warriorness”. Again, again, fingers crossed for Collo.

Remember Carroll was meant to be out for 2 weeks after the Spurs match and didnt play again for most of the season….getting that sinking feeling in relation to Tiote

Comment #6Ok lets say,Tiote is fit but we are not playing him (absurd as it is). What if its not because of an impending transfer and just a trick to stop him going to the AFCON? we let Ivory coast think hes injured, they name their squad w/out him and bang,we start playing him once the tournament kicks off 🙂 crazy i know

Nar if Vuckic tried to stab someone he would break his arm 😉 rules him out of my investigation. Could of been Smith but I doubt he would use a knife probably just double footed tackle him in the face

Wonderful that the winter injuries have hit so soon haha Tiote, Saylor, Colo and Guthrie sure I read Cabaye was carrying a knock the past couple of games as well

If Smith is to start he’d have to stab Perch, Kadar, Best, HBA, Guthrie, Gosling, Cabaye, Tiote.
And probably Campbell just to be safe.

And to be fair to Guthrie he has been playing hurt the past 3 games (I think) so this groin njury is probably because he didnt get it sorted sooner

Alan Pardew is worried that #NUFC’s success this season is making it harder to tie key players down to new deals. (Northern Echo) #NUFC #fb
Surely success is benefitial to getting players to sign deals if a decent offer is made, is that not more the issue here? U pay peanuts u get monkeys after all

Comment #20WWJBD, success means players will think they are worth more than is being offered.

True but had these deals been sorted out earlier in a professional way it wouldnt have been a issue. Cant blame our success for our failing to get players over that magical line

Comment #26GG Yeah and am all for a wage cap but as to our structure it seems very sportsdirect style from what I have heard.
Also the way our club handle contract negotiations seems to be leak it to the press and heap the pressure on the players to sign a deal widely brandished as ‘brilliant’ and when the players discuss it in the media (or rather disagree with the clubs assessment) they are fined.
For me it should be a entirely inhouse discussion

Comment #36Tough match in the weekend, but we have quality in the side to compete with Norwich regardless who plays centre half. I’d throw in Santon not to change things too much, it wouldn’t make sense to put Simmo in the centre, he’s going a good job as a full back. And again, please not Perch.
