There are reports circulating in France that Modibo Maiga failed his medical, for his January transfer to Newcastle United.
Oh no!
Modibo Maiga – failed his medical
Newcastle had already agreed a transfer fee of around £6.5M for the Mali International striker, and the 24 year-old was supposed to sign a five and a half year deal just before Christmas – on 22nd December to be exact.
The medical was carried out over two days in London, on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, but there many reports now coming in confirming that he has indeed failed the medical because of a knee problem.
Karim Aklil, Maiga’s agent had this to say to L’Equipe tonight:
“I am disappointed at this turn of events,”
“Modibo is in perfect physical condition, which was confirmed by one of the leading experts in the field and I am quite surprised of the medical diagnosis by the doctors appointed by the club.
“I am convinced that the future will prove us right and that Modibo will prove his worth and will remain one of the best strikers in the Championship of France.”
And there seems some disagreement on the prognosis of the Newcastle medical doctors, as Professor Jaeger is said to be the leading expert in his field, mentioned above by Aklil.
Jaeger has contradicted the opinion of the Newcastle medical doctors, and has confirmed Maiga is in perfect health.
The French Daily L’Equipe has reported that Maiga will not now be joining Newcastle, because of a knee injury, and his club Sochaux are said to have held a crisis meeting on the news.
The subject of that meeting is said to be the future of Modibo Maiga.
After all, the drawn out negotiations for his transfer to Newcastle, have been going on for over six months now, and £6.5M is a lot of money for any French club.
L’Equipe are now reporting that Newcastle will go after top French International striker Oivier Giroud, who is some player for Montpelier and is 25 years-old.
The 6’4″ striker is in tremendous form for table-topping Montpelier, and he has scored 14 goals and has 5 assists for his club in only 18 appearances this season.
Giroud could be valued at about the same price as Modibo, so we’ll just have to wait and see if Newcastle make some official statement on this rather surprising news.
We’d be very happy to see Olivier Giroud through the door at Newcastle, but the Tyneside club will have to move very quickly.
Newcastle fans need to see a top striker coming into Newcastle next month, as the late but promised replacement for the departed local striker Andy Carroll.
Comments welcome.

Lets hope so, cause this all seems so odd. A very shocking turn of events tbh.
Could be that this is all the cause, remember Ba and Marveux came on a free, despite supposedly failing medicals. It’s a minimal risk for the club, especially if they’ve signed a pay as u play deal.
Maiga costs £6-8 million, a vastly larger risk.
IF he failed the medical, this could quite easily be the case.

Comment #83Lol, i just realised, every time Pardew mentions a certainty, it all goes wrong, he’s a jinxer!!
Carroll will not be sold, Carroll was sold.
Tiote will be back next game, Tiote is out for 1 1/2 month.
We will for certain get one arrival in January, the certain arrival (Maiga) fails his medical.
Pardew must be shaking his head in disbelief…

Oh, i hope it’s Eren, he might not be as prolific, but he has great flair about him and just the type of player we need.

He’s different to anything we currently have on our books, still think we need to look at our defence first as we are woefully short of class. Would like to see Sammy up front, the kid is so unpredictable

Yeah, his shot against SCU in the cup was great, the lad can obviously shoot, and does so well in the reserves too.
He’s a winger first and striker 2nd, but well worth a try.
But ye, agree with you on the defense, if i had to pick, i’d prioritize the defense.

Comment #89@64 – I think most people who have interest in football that extends beyond the prem has probably heard of Cabaye- there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that he was always going to be a big player for us.
Regarding Maiga- if we do actually get someone through the door – i’m happy if this deal is off. Think there are better options available. As i said back in the summer, I trust Carr but Maiga was the 5th choice striker over the summer.

Comment #93Giroud seems much like a Shearer type striker, not the fastest, but can very much strike a ball, dangerous finisher.
Perhaps a bit bigger than Shearer, but that doesn’t matter if u can finish like a legend.

True, but that shouldn’t matter on a medical tbh should it?
I mean, if it’s an underlying problem that could re-occur again and again, then yes, but he has a good history concerning injuries does he not?

I can hardly see how another medical should change the outcome?
We have been linked with dozen of strikers since the summer and we bid for 4 or 5 strikers before the transfer window shot close.
I think Carr has scouted other alternatives and AP has other solutions.
The Maiga deal doesn’t really make sense anyway. Well at least that’s my opinion.

Comment #101I for one am happy at this news. Not for the fact we ain’t getting the player as I think he would be a good signing but it shows to me that we may have learnt a lesson from our past. Marcelinho, dyer, Owen, woodgate, duff etc… All crocs that cost us a fortune! If he is going to cost 8 million and there is a risk of injury then it’s not good to buy the lad. Ba and Marveaux were freebies and I am most certain they are on pay as you play or similar to protect our financials. Time to buy someone like Giroud. Those saying ‘he is like what we have already’ he is nothing like Ba and he is infinitely better than ameobi in my opinion.

I am sick of Obertan tbh…. He has mases of speed which he doesnt use effectively…. he can’t cross for shit!… nd he gives the ball away wayy too much…. Give Abeid a chance on the wing…..
I would like to see a few new faces in january… A right winger/Striker (MERTENS)…. Striker (Seydou Doumbia) and a full back (Alex)…. Would love this team next month….

Comment #105With Tiote doubtful, Guthrie injured and Gosling suspended we need to field a five man midfield. Norwich killed us, and Swansea is going to unleash its pace and widemen on us and they are going to hurt us badly. 4-4-2 doesn’t cut it it in modern football.
Five man midfield with Obertan, Abeit, Cabaye, Jonas and HBA.
Pardew needs to get this right sooner rather than later. But in order to do so, he needs to apply so discipline on our fullbacks. They need to their job on there own; wingers are suppose to go forward and create chances and supply balls to Ba, not defend.
The two in midfield protects the centre backs; that’s what’s been missing since Tiote got injured.
4-2-3-1 is actually an amazing formation if you utilize it right; and sadly Pardew is not.

Comment #108Davy HBA needs games and you have to think what is best for the team in the long term. If HBA doesn’t play tomorrow then what is the point in having him at the club.
A confident match fit Ben Arfa will benefit not only the style of football we play but give the excellent Ba more ammunition.

Comment #110this is all really, REALLY strange, there’s no two ways about it…..think….if we ALMOST signed him on deadline day, were we prepared to offer that money, however much it was, without a medical???? Surely either we don’t want to pay the money, or we don’t want to pay the money for Maiga…..a third party, a consultant, this doctor who can benefit from nothing one way or the other says he’s fine. this is really really strange
in reguards to options, mine would be:
1)Cisse/Doumbia (neither will happen)
2) Giroud/Derdyiok (thought Eren has rejected out overtures twice to date). Please, MA/DL, let’s just get the right player over, whether it’s maiga or giroud or someone.

no sh!t,
go back and read what happened on deadline day. We didn’t concede defeat until AFTER the window had closed. we had to’ve known something between august 31st and now about a pre-existing medical condition. I don’t buy into this nonsense. either we’ve someone else, or we just don’t want to pay that kind of money….

Comment #115Reports stated that Maiga just realise that we going to play a SKINNY “RELIABLE” Centre Back James Perch for the rest of the season – this this show a lack of club ambition.
Therefore Maiga with intention “failed” his newcastle medical

I love how all your posts are now just immature insults at James Perch.
You were the guy who used to just complain about Shola in every single post right?
Who would you rather Pardew played when we have zero other senior centre backs available?

Comment #119@davybtoon the thing I love about that vid is that it shows that after he scores his first goal he turns around and prepares for the restart of the game doesn’t sit back and relax and then he gets a second great goal. Knows the game isn’t over and plays to win it.
Hope he gets a chance tomorrow ahead of smith.
