Ben Arfa’s Goal For The Fans – Davide Santon Returns At Liverpool

It’s obvious that Ben Arfa was simply delighted with his sub appearance yesterday at the Reebok Stadium.

Ben Arfa – getting towards being fully fit

The Frenchman came on after 61 minutes and changed the game for Newcastle, and he got the very important first goal on 69 minutes with an exhibition of  his great skill.

Ben Arfa hit the ball home first time into the back of the net with his left foot,  from Ryan Taylor’s almost perfect left wing cross, after Ryan had been put through down the left by Yohan Cabaye.

Ben Arfa has said today he’s now coming into full fitness and he will show the Newcastle fans a lot more as he gets more playing time – we believe him:

“I want to make something clear,”  “I’m nearly 100 per cent fit and if I play, I will show more to the fans and more to the club.”

“I heard the fans singing my name before I came on. It feels really good. The news I can give them is that I’m now close to being 100 per cent fit.”

“The game was very nice for me and I’m so happy to see us pick up three important points. Everything the team did at Bolton was brilliant.”

“I was very happy to see the ball hit the back of the net,” “The main thing for me was to see the fans reacting behind the goal.”

“That was the most pleasing thing for me – it was a goal for not just me, but for them also. It was really comforting to see the fans applauding me.”

And there was more good news today that the knee injury of  youngster Davide Santon  is not serious, and a scan had revealed there is no damage to the knee.

Davide Santon – back for Liverpool

So Davide will be available to come back in at left back against Liverpool at Anfield on Friday night, as the Italian slowly gets acclimatized to the English way of playing the game.

This is what manager Alan Pardew said about the 20 year-old Italian International today:

“Santon’s knee wasn’t as bad we as thought,” Pardew told the Gazette. “I left him out against Bolton, but I think he’ll be back for Liverpool.”

Those words suggests that Davide could start the game at Liverpool,  after  two and a half games for Newcastle, in which he impressed at left back for the Magpies and looked an excellent player in the amking.

We also expect Ben Arfa to start on Friday night in place of Leon Best, although Leon worked his socks off for the Newcastle cause yesterday for an hour.

It was a great win for Newcastle and hopefully we can build on that at Anfield.

Anyone else chuckle at Pardew’s post match interview? when he was talking up Willo’s performance and saying its been tough the last few games, he then said ‘James Perch is not a centre half’ :D, Wonder how much time it will take for Alan to see Shola and Leon Best are not strikers…

in my humble opinion….ben arfa should be playing 90 mins, non of this he isnt 90 mins fit malarky is balls…williamson has been out for 4 month and he just played 90 mins! Besty was far to selfish and obertan is scared of heading the ball…either that or he cannot time his jumps with the flight of the ball….rant over!

As everyone keeps speculating, vertongen would be a good punt for CB and I wouldnt like to hazard a guess at attacking options but i hope gRaham carrs got some good options coz id hate to get stuck with a turkey like xsico or luque!!

    not sure if you read my post correctly;

I DO want best to play with HBA in january.

never said anything about Vuckic and HBA playing up front together cause they both play the #10 role. do you want to play a 460? me neither.

also explicitly said take HBA off if he can’t handle 90 minutes. It’s important we play well and start playing well from the get-go against liverpool. you really envision that long ball sh!te to work against them?

It was the perfect game for Willo to come back in for, Friday will be a far tougher test not just for him but for everyone, still think we’ll take all 3 points

To be fair to Pardew he’s got a balancing job to do with keeping Best happy and confident for when Ba leaves in 2 weeks time, if not for that I think that Benny would be playing the full 90

Leon Best did his part by making runs and make the oppdefence tired…

So that the midfield and defender wont be so stickly to ben Afar

I think with Best it looks worse for him as Ba is banging them in, but his work rate and attitude is brilliant, the guy hasn’t finished many games where he’s started but he never complains or throws his toys out of the pram, he a great pro

Can’t see Ben Arfa starting at the cesspool,
Although many say Best was poor he actually as Ed said worked his socks off.
And before Ben Arfa came on he was the only one that came any way close apart from raylors free kick
Would be a shame for raylor to lose his place after a good game although santon is a better player

Ben Arfa should definitely be put on from now.. did you see his assist to demba ba against WBA? He also won us the penalty against Manure, scored against Bolton and stopped Bolton from taking quick free kicks…

To get Best’s contributions we have to go back September the 17th where got his lucky tap in against Villa, which to be honest anyone on this blog could have scored it anyway.

    Best is useless…

I have a ticket for Liverpool against Newcastle this friday but if I see that Best is on the team sheet then I’m running out of the stadium screaming.

jummytoon – Santon doesnt get forward anymore or anyless than Jose used to so a dont see how it would be a problem mate, if anything its better because Santons got pace to get back and is better on the ball than Taylor

I would like to see this starting eleven for Liverpool game.

    ===========DEMBA BA===========

    a lot of options.
Tottenham plays this formation and i’m quite fancy watching their play style. Ofcourse Obertan is not Bale and Vukcic is not VDV(yet), but in the future it could work well. Especially then Marveaux comes back fit again. Demba is = if not better than Adebayor, Ben Arfa is better than Modric (then fully fit). Santon > Assou-Ekoto, R.Taylor is better than Walker IMO,but probably not as fast.(but we have Travenier improving enormously).P.s we have far better Keeper. And center halves then fit are playing together better than Spurs duo. Also Tiote and Cabaye are miles better than Sandro and Parker.

This team could play smooth short passing attacink footy with strong def on Friday. 2-0 Away WIN!

    What do you think?

Ben Arfa while playing short passes with Tiote as he do,es actually misplaced one and put Bolton through for a shooting chance.
He does some things so quick that the others aren’t expecting it and becomes dangerous for us.
    Quality player all the same

jimmytoon, i dis agree santon gets forward but, he also fast enough to get his job done as LB. I would like to see Raylor at RB instead of Simpson (no hard feelings). I think we should cash in on simpson and get RB or CB capable of RB or LB trade. Onoucha, Mapou. plus Centre Back is a must (Douglas, Vertoghen or Tomkins). Striker or two as well. (Luuk de Jong or Giroud , + {Maynard as a replacement of Lovrerkrands}). We will need big squad to compete in Europe next year 😉

After 18 games last season we wer 9th on 22 points we’d scored 28 and conceded 29

The season we got relegated we went down with 34 points and after 18 games we had 22 points again

A teams never needed more than 40 points to survive since 2002/2003 season

This season our home record is almost identical in every way to our away record.. only difference is weve scored 1 more goal away(13)

People will forever hate a player no matter what GT.

I mean people hate Obertan, from the game last night there were mostly spots of brilliance from him, yet people said he was cack? HOW?! He crossed, took on his man, even got an assist and a shot on target?! What more must this man do to prove himself? For a young player people put pressure on their least favourite player in the squad. I think people also hate on Perch too much, and say if he plays we don’t win. Well he played yesterday, replaced Cabaye and we won? I don’t remember him messing up either. So for people to moan on Simmo, yesterday he had a good game, is just stupid. Why critic our own team to hatred? It’s stupid.

niffnoff – Spot on mate, Also agree with Obertan a personally think he had one of his better games, he did what he should do by actually running at his man he got a couple of crosses in and we scored off 1 of them aswel so it he played well and he’s only like 22/23 so plenty of time to improve

Best did not work his socks off and never has. His touch is poor, his movement non existent and he cannot create chances for himself.

Earlier comments said Jonas should be rested and he is carrying weight? No he’s been carrying a left back all season. Jonas is key to us, just look at the Chelsea game. Santon looks good on the ball but positionally against West Brom I think he was caught out a few times.
