Danny Simpson Likely To Leave Newcastle This Summer

Newcastle have offered Danny Simpson £25K/week on his new contract,  but he still has not signed it.

Danny Simpson – likely he will leave Newcastle this summer

Danny accepted £10K/week on his current contract, which runs out a year come June, when he arrived permanently from Manchester United for around £500K in January of 2010.

And even at that time,  the deal was held up as the player was not satisfied with the terms being offered, and of course Newcastle were still in the second division at the time.

But he has turned down the new offers from the Magpies for almost a year now, although if you believe the local Newcastle press,  they are reporting that it’s not the amount of the wages, but the way in which the money is being paid that’s the problem.

We have no idea what that means, but both the Daily Mail and Daily Mirror have similar pieces today, and they report that Danny will continue to turn down Newcastle’s offer,  unless the terms are significantly improved.

With Newcastle now in Europe,  it may be that Newcastle will offer Danny new improved terms before the summer rolls around, but if he continues to turn the offer down, he will be sold – and Aston Villa are said to be interested, although Sunderland could also be keen on the full-back.

Gone are the days when Newcastle will pander to their players and pay them high wages, if they don’t think they deserve them.

The same thing goes for Danny Guthrie, who has yet to sign a new contract, and his current four year deal runs out at the end of the June.

Newcastle had trouble negotiating new deals with both Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton last year, and they both finally  left for clubs who paid them higher wages.

Kevin joined second division West Ham on a long term deal, and Barton joined QPR for wages reported to be £70K/week, and it could be that both will be playing in the second  division next season.

West Ham have not been able to clinch an automatic promotion place, and will need to win the play-offs to be promoted, and QPR are currently 4th bottom of the Premier League table and just 2 points above Bolton,  who have two games in hand.

Danny Simpson will have been told he will be sold in the summer if he doesn’t sign the deal, and we’re almost into May now, and he still hasn’t signed.

Alan Pardew has said that if Simpson and Guthrie are sold, then new players will be brought in to replace them, and that will be in addition to the new players who will also be drafted in,  to increase the size of the squad.

What do you think about these contract talks with the two Danny’s?

Comments welcome.

It’s the way the money is paid that is the issue? What the hell could that be, if I were being paid 25k a week I wouldn’t give a monkeys if it were paid weekly, monthly or even in one big lump. 25k is about what Danny is worth imo, when you consider the limit of our wage structure here and the fact he will most likely be back-up/rotated next season if/when we bring in a new full-back.

Guthrie is exactly the same for me. Good player but will be rotated/back-up next season if he stays, despite the fact I think he is a really solid CM.

He’s been a liability in some games with his forward runs and being sluggish tracking back. Don’t get me wrong he’s been a good player but, if he doesn’t sign get him shipped out.

Hope we bring in Debuchy(*sp) from Lille, guy is lightning fast and would work well with cabaye and benny in front of him.

Not sure why fans criticise this kid so much, really don’t know what it is they dislike about him. For an unbiased view, since people are so divide, one must look at the stats (see below) and the lad’s obvious commitment since day 1. Before him we tried both Raylor and Taylor at RB, a combination which ‘helped’ demote us as many goals were scored from that side. And, as far as contract negotiations go, local lad Taylor all but left before his contract was significantly improved, despite the fact that he plays one sits five. Has Simpson ever been out injured. Improve his contract, now AP!

Probably some of those payments are based on bonuses etc. Ah well, dont let the door hit your asses on the way out lads.

if we get pieters in then i would,nt give a monkeys if he goes, santon to the right and pieters on the left, jonas could allways be a backup on the left and perch on the right as back up

anyway lets get 3 points today and qpr to win , think i,ll have a bet on that , toon and qpr double

Like Simpson as a player but I honestly trust the club to replace any departing player with a better player

I’d like to see him go and Santon start right back week-in-week-out next season with Pieters brought in to play left back, that would make us more solid at the back

Sabton rb. Pieters lb. Sorted. As for Guthrie, he’s a back up player so it’s not the end of the world

hard to talk in terms of “IF”, but ok, if we get Pieters will his salary be 25k? If we get him will he play like the last international when he looked decidedly poor? If we lose HBA will we get Messi? You see, we have that lad now and he isn’t that bad either.
Anyway, Ed, think we should concentrate on the game rather than such matters which are good to stir up things when there’s nothing going on football-wise; so please change the subject before everyone wakes up 🙂

I am confused by the fact people want to get rid of a very solid RB and replace him with a LB who is fairly poor in defence

Danny is a great player and a great team member, as an ever present he has helped the side stay at the top of the table throughout the season, thats a fact, from a wages perspective he should be paid his market value, can he get slightly more elsewhere? sure, but then he misses out on Europe as he wont be going to a top 4 side, as Nolan and Barton are finding out, the grass isnt always greener, personaly I’d prefer him to stay, if its not broke dont fixit springs to mind. I think he will end up staying, just another case of agents playing brinkmanship.

Easy to replace Simpson, he’s one of the weakest links in the team. He should be thankful to nufc for giving him a chance. He is not good enough to demand more than 25 k a week.

If the Danny’s want to play for Villa or WBA let them go.

Its a buyers market. There are more good quality players available than squad places.

I’d like to see them both sign but if they don’t want to play in front of 52,000 Geordies. Adios.

I think Ellitott will do the job today. the team has got momentum, stoke doesn’t seem to score ( 32-45 goaldifference). Can’t wait for the game!

Id like to keep both players tbh. Would be top class backup players if we get in a starter RB and CM.

Sometimes its better to be slow to form an opinion when you don’t know the facts. Better to leave this to Simpson and the club to sort out.
But because he wears the black & whitte shirt and the team has done so well this season, I hope they do sort it out.

i agree with cyprus @4, cant complain about how he has played not many better RB’s in the prem. With Guthrie i personally wouldn’t mind seeing him sold, i dont think Ashley will invest as much as we will need taking into account the vastly increased fixtures with europe. Sell Guthrie as we have capable replacements in Goslin, Abeide and Vukic, get in a RB or CB instead .

Well we dont know how true this story is but at the end of the day I cannot see Simmo leaving if the contract is 25K a week. Fair enough their are players at the club who are getting bigger wages and desearvedly so, the like of Cisse, Tiote, Cabaye and yes Simmo has improved a hell of a lot compared to when we first bought him but hes not stupid, hes not going to turn down 25K a week contract if thats the wages offered because he’d be missing out on a place in one of the best teams in England and one of the best teams in the world aswell as by the looks of it a place in Europe.

Theres no chance that he’d get better wages at another club and defonatly no chance what so ever he’d be playing with players like Tiote, Santon, Ben Arfa at another club, and theres defonatly no chance he’d be playing in Europe either… so he’ll sign just you watch.

    Howayy Simmo Lad!

I agree with Papiss9. Danny Simpson is the weak link in the team for me. I think we can play Santon at right back (seen as he is right footed) and then get a top quality left back in the summer. Perch is a good enough backup for Santon at right back and obviously the club like Tavernier too which is why they aren’t offering Danny Simpson ridiculous wages!! We can also play either Taylor at right back too so we have loads of options there.

This is similar to what happened with Steven Taylor last season under Hughton. He felt the wages we were offering him made him feel undervalued and was put on the transfer list. Pardew comes in and the first thing he does he does is sign Taylor to a 5-year contract. People might not agree but simo is the best right back we have had in a long time and our defence would be unbalanced without him. Granted going forward hes not great and id like to see Santon on that side like everyone else but defensively he has been so vital this season. Id hate to see him leave but the way we are heading I doubt he would be in the side for much longer. I’ve been to nearly ever game this season and Simo has been sound as a whistle. Like I said, going forward he isn’t great but he if you look at the three years he has been here, every season he has got better and better. He looks more accomplished this season and isn’t making them mistakes like he did at home to spurs last season. End of the day he should sign a £25-30k deal, same with Guthrie and get it wrapped up. Good players to have in the squad.

Hoping for a win today lads, praying Krul is fit. Noticed how we cant play 4-4-2 anymore. Should play the 4-3-3 today!

It will be a shame if the lad leaves, sure he’s had a few poor performances but the lad has been pretty solid for us this season. 7 goal line clearances!

I think Newcastle will try to keep him, and I can’t see Simmo leaving because I don’t think he’ll get into another club who are in Europe.

This issue has been debated many times before and remains very divisive amongst posters. The facts clearly show he is ever-present and we are challenging hard for Europe; we had the tightest defence in the League for 11+ matches and he was ever-present; he’s cleared off the line an amazing number of times; against that, he thinks he is worth more than the club, or most people, think. I think the only mistake in Hebburn’s post @22 was the comment that he won’t get more than £25K a week elsewhere – I would strongly suggest that, if he moves, it will be for a better wage than that. I very much hope he doesn’t move, but if he/his agent think they can play hardball with our owner, they are backing a certain loser. Hope both Danny’s stay.

I’m not too bothered about Danny Guthrie signing a new contract, I think it would be easy to get a better midfielder than him. I do hope that Danny Simpson signs a new contract though. He’s been good for Newcastle. He gets stick all the time off fans, even though he’s been one of the best defenders in the league by stats, and he’s made 7 goal line clearances.

ok so we are on the verge of great things,we have quality players who are coveted by top clubs, cabaye ,tiote ,ba, colo, krul, cisse,we look at who is above and around us man utd, man city ,arsenal ,chelsea and spurs, any of the above players would get into these teams, danny simpson and guthrie are wanted by west brom and villa, which is about their level, our aim has to be to at least compete with the teams above us ,so that means we need better quality.if we sign better quality then simpson ,guthrie ,williamson and a few others just are not going to be good enoughm have we forgotten that we may just get into the cl do you really see guthrie simmo and williamson up against iniesta xavi ronaldo n who is that other guy oh yes messi,if we are going to push on then the mediocre need to be replaced with more quality

Yeah, I don’t think Pieters is the answer for us. We need Cissokho. He’s a much better player defensively and is also an attacking threat. He will fit in well with all of the french speaking players and would like to sign for us. Pieters looked a liability against England. He has no pace and gets beat easily. Please get Cissokho in Alan.
