It must be very pleasing for a manager like Alan Pardew to see his team give such an accomplished performance yesterday, when the pressure was really on our lads.
Yohan Cabaye – after scoring yesterday
And before we scored that first goal, Newcastle maybe looked a little tentative in the build up, and the TV commentators were saying such daft things like the pressure was getting to the Newcastle players.
But then after two great goals in just four minutes, we didn’t hear them say that for the rest of the game, as Newcastle were quite easily the better side yesterday at St. James’ Park.
Alan Pardew has given a multitude of interviews since the game finished yesterday, and he will be in great demand after his side won their 6th game in a row:
“To win six on the trot is truly outstanding from the players, they’ll get a few plaudits this week and they deserve them.” “We were accomplished yesterday.”
” I think it was one of those games where you really needed to focus because Stoke have got great players.” “We did – we were focused from the start and when we got the first goal, which was a great bit of skill from Hatem and a fantastic header from Cisse.”
“It set us up.” “We looked comfortable from that moment. We haven’t sent a message out, we’re just doing what we do.” “Our work ethic was the same, it was our four-pronged attack that won us the game. That’s Hatem, Yohan, Demba and Papiss.”
“They really were in irrepressible form at times. That gives you a chance in games.” “We now go to Wigan, who got a tough result on Saturday, that’s the next hurdle for us.” “Cabaye was simply terrific. He scored two great goals but perhaps his pass was better than his goals,”
“I was on the sidelines and I didn’t even see that run. He’s having to manoeuvre the ball with players left, right and centre so to find that pass is exquisite.” “It was a good finish by the way, but that will have to go down as one of the best passes I have seen at this stadium.”
It’s not beyond the realm of possibility that Newcastle can get their 7th win in a row at the DW Stadium next Saturday, but Newcastle will need to be ready to fight and scrap for every single ball.
That’s something the Spurs players didn’t show yesterday at QPR, and they paid the penalty, as the newly promoted side deserved their 3 points with a 1-0 victory.
Keeping the Newcastle players’ feet on the ground will be important for Alan Pardew over the next four games, but the lads will be trying to pick up as many points as possible in that final run-in to the season.
We will also need a number of players in top form in those games, if we are indeed to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2003.
Howay The Lads!!

Comment #87The ACON is just something we have to deal with. If we’re looking for a big strong CM who imposes himself well, it just happens that they tend to come from Africa.

Comment #91alkinou – If we have learnt anyhting from our transfer policy, it is that the players we target will be relatively unknown, on no more than £40K a week so 95% of names mentioned on here can be discarded. Happy Days – Passports at the ready 🙂

Comment #96When (not if) Barca stuff Chelski we are in for the most exciting seasons end in the history of the PL I think.
When Barca win we will have CL football in our own hands and it will be ours to throw away. I still think we are long shots but not only can we upset the top 4 we could potentially decide the title.
If Man City win today then a week tomorrow will see them play Man Ure. Should they win that too they will be top of the league on goal difference and will head to st James park as favourites. But we can upset the odds and beat them. I’m sure of it.
At the moment there is a load of ifs and buts but I am very excited. We need IMO 10points to guarantee CL. Maybe 9 will be enough?! How many do you think we need?

Comment #101It’s difficult to predict anything. All we can do is beat Wigan, and by the end of the weekend Spurs and Arsenal may well have dropped points to Blackburn and Stoke.

Comment #105What a massive massive difference it has made playing Jonas alongside Tiote.
This has put Cabaye back where he belongs, further forward.
It was clear that before this great run Cabaye was sitting deeper and deeper which was wasting his talents.
Now hes further forward he can score goals set up Cisse, Ba and Ben Arfa.
Jonas is fantastic in this new position as his work rate is 2nd to none.
This really is one of the most exciting newcastle teams i have seen for decades. If we can keep this lot together and add a 5 or 6 top quality players (Hoilett, Moses, Wolfswinkle, Pieters, Douglas) we could really cement our place in the top 6.
Didn’t Ashley say he had a 5 year plan? Well its certainly looking like coming to fruition now.

Comment #110Just wanted to say to Ed, hadn’t realized you were from the walker area, reading one of your articles and you mentioned Evistone Gardens. Don’t know if your up to date on event in the local area or not but I can tell you that the birds nest pub and the club have both been torn down. The place looks a lot different these days. Just thought i’d give you a little bit of info on your old stomping ground. Take Care and get well soon.

Comment #111Just want to make sure I’ve got this right:
– We’re guaranteed at least 6th place & Europa League right now.
– If we want 4th, the only way to guarantee that is to get a minimum of 10 points, assuming that Chelski & Spuds win their remaining games.
– 4th place will only guarantee us Champions League if Chelski fail to win the CL.
– The only guarantee of 3rd place is for Arsenal to drop a point or more, and for us to win all of our remaining games.
Is that a fair summary of how things stand currently?
Genuinely think we’ve now got one of the toughest run-ins, so I won’t be disappointed if we don’t make CL; this season has exceeded all expectations and I’m incredibly proud of the lads.
And I believe that with just a couple of refinements we should be challenging for CL next season. I hope that the southern biased media continue to ignore us though as it takes the pressure off and allows us to continue to be a surprise package.

Comment #112That touch of skill yesterday by Benny was sublime, wot the video doesnt show is the trap and pass to simpson and then Simmo just running the ball out, how to put the mockers on a lovely move, Simmo is struggling and it was interesting Pardiola took him off and moved Perch to RB last 15minutes, lets hope this is a glimpse of the future.
Perch is showing great ability currently, displaying great passion for the shirt and should be played, gud on the ball and all, would fancy him to stop most wingers, and offer a lot more than simpson going forward.

I’m a walker lad and I’ve been working there since December. I’ve had worse jobs than this, I’m actually a joiner by trade. But the best thing about working there is the amount of Mackems you can wind up after the weekends matches. One of my personal favorites is when I’m happily working away singing, “Have you ever seen a Mackem in Milan.” Seeing these people up close, you realize how cold it must be for them living in the shadow of a real team like Newcastle. Honestly it’s priceless seeing their faces, knowing their only ambition in life is to finish above us in the league. HWTL

Comment #114@consettoff, yes i think thats about right with everton getting only a point, Worst we can do is 6th. Best is 3rd. 4th good enough for champs league, unless chelsea win it and finnish 5th or 6th.

Comment #116hotdog – not saying we shouldnt buy an even better option in the summer, just making the point that currently Perch offers more to the team than Simpson, the biggest thing currently that he offers is confidence, Simmo has lost any he previously had.
