Penalty Misery For Magpies Last Night

Holland are ranked fourth in the latest FIFA rankings and Northern Ireland are ranked 100th.

Robin van Perise after scoring last night
Note that’s Newcastle target  Ibrahim Affelay in the picture

So we suppose it wasn’t too much of a surprise when Holland thrashed  Northern Ireland 6-0 and they were 4-0 up at half time.

Shane Ferguson started the game for Northern  Ireland and the Dutch were already two goals up in the 27th minutes when Shane Ferguson gave away a penalty when he was adjudged to have handled the ball in the penalty area.

Robin van Persie scored from the spot and the Dutch ended up thrashing the visitors at the sold-out Amsterdam ArenA.

That was Shane’s third cap and he seems to have almost become a regular under new manager Michael O’Neill, who admitted his inexperienced side were no match for the country who were only beaten in extra time in the final of the World Cup in South Africa two years ago.

And Newcastle target Ibrahim Afellay played for Holland in the game, and he is shown congratulating van Persie in the picture above.

Here’s the goals from that game, although it doesn’t show Shane’s hand ball:

Senegal beat Liberia 3-1 in Dekar, but they had to come form behind after only two minutes and then Newcastle super-striker and Senegal captain Papiss Cisse missed a penalty after just 10 minutes.

But then the Senegal side – Demba Ba is not in the squad for these games – came back and equalized through Brahmani Balde in the 32nd minute, before Dame N’Doye and Sadio Mane added goals late in the game, to give Senegal a much needed win in their first qualifying game for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

The World Cup qualifying for African teams has them split into 10 groups, and the group winners qualify for the next stage, and there will be five teams that finally make it to the World Cup finals in two years time.

Here’s the highlights of that game plus Cisse’s miss, and the Liberia goalkeeper had the cheek to even save his follow-up shot, after he had parried the penalty.

I think MA has proven already that he is a very bad seller of players, by all accounts he was to last to hold out in refusing to sell AC and only sanctioned it when slitherpool paid the whole £35 mil in one up front in cash.

If that makes us a selling club then I for one am all for it.

And for all the posters going on about Ba’s contract clause I think the boys at the top are astute enough to have clauses in the clause to give us a little safeguarding, and as AP has already stated the clause is not quite as simple as some are making it out to be.

the only worry i hae with ba is that the club saw him as a stop gap player til we got cisse.

no real risk as he was a free but as we needed a striker quickly we may have agreed to the clause.

in all honesty nobody expected him to do as well as he did, his goals record for us in first half of season was superior to that at previous clubs.

you’re right there but then again he cost nothing but personals, his and his agents, and we got a great response from him first half of season.

So we have had profit from the deal (16 goals) as he has and if he goes for £7 mil we just about cover our cost if rumour is to be believed.

He has gone off the boil like Torres did and there is no guarantee that he will get it back the way he was at the start of the season.

Yes Ba has never been so lean and gone so long between goals before now but strikers go on and off the boil all the time.

He could take a long time to come back so he may not be that great a loss.

Its all hopes dude, no one can crack the transfer dealings at NUFC. We end up with players no one heard of in all those stupid rumour mills. But one of those two I mentioned surely to land at SJP this season!!

Can u believe N’Jogbia being linked to be back? Would love it though. 🙂

What’s wrong ith the header? Ed doesn’t make the header and probably have other things to do than change the header all the time.

It is not like he doesn’t make changes once and a while 😉

About Stolla; lets not have that discussion again. Some think the world of him and call it loyalty to remain at the club for 12 years collection a huge pay check for only being available for half the season and not even being a starter.

Others call it just making a pay day. Some just don’t think too much about him 😉

Whatever anyone says, 12 years and if not many, some very crucial goals in crucial games, makes Shola desrving enuf to be on that header, compared to Best atleast!! Even Mackems would support me in that header plea!! 😉

I wouldn’t put Best there either mate 😉

But for Strolla to deserve to be there I disagree mate…

For me Strolla has been nothing but a disappointment ever since he came thought the ranks and we all thought he would be the next big thing on the Tyne.

Strolla hasn’t generated any profit just cost and with only about 50 goals in 263 matches for NUFC I am not overly impressed.

12 seasons equals 456 matches and Strolla has played about half.

He has been on a average £ 25k or more a week. That equals £ 15,6 mil and that is £ 312k per goal.

He has been a horrible business for NUFC 😉 at least he came free 😉 lol
