Newcastle United will want to know exactly what Demba Ba’s future plans are – so they can go ahead with their own plans for the summer transfer window.
Demba Ba – Magpies need to understand his plans
The Senegal international has yet to tell Newcastle whether he wants to take up the release clause on his contract – if clubs like Tottenham come a calling this summer.
Ba’s contract includes a £7M release clause, which can be activated from June 1st until July 31st – but after that time he will only be available at the market price – which is much higher than £7M.
Chelsea, in addition to Tottenham, are said to be interested in the player, and maybe if Roberto de Mateo is appointed the new Chelsea manager this week, the Pensioners could move for the 27 year-old top striker.
Certainly Newcastle need to hear from Ba on his future plans before the lads return to pre-season training, which is scheduled for Thursday, July 5th.
Newcastle are keen to get the matter settled one way or the other, and hardly want to repeat the Jose Enrique saga of last year, when Jose toured America and played in the pre-season games, but then left Newcastle for Liverpool on 11th August.
The two strikers Newcastle are said to be interested in are 21 year-old Luuk de Jong, the FC Twente striker, and 25 year-old Montpellier’s French International Olivier Giroud, although Olivier could be a little on the expensive side.
Even if Demba Ba elects to stay on Tyneside, we still expect Newcastle to bring in one new striker, with the likelihood being it’s the younger de Jong.
Leon Best is expected to leave Newcastle in the summer, with the 25 year-old being linked with Scottish Champions Celtic, who would also like to sign Newcastle’s 24 year-old goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
What do you think?

Comment #7they can demand all they want, its there fault that stupid clause is in there in the first place otherwise there wouldnt be any of this carry on, unless someone came in with a ridiculous offer and they decided to cash in. There’s no one to blame for this situation but the man who put that clause in there

Comment #19I think Ba, Cissé and HBA should stay. They are our first forwards.
But in the squad we need 1-2 qualitative substitutes + Shola… 🙂
Löven is out now. Sell Best, and Bring Luuk De Jong and Jordan Rhodes!!!

Comment #20not keen on de jong and if we got 7 for ba de jong would cost that much. id rather rodelega or leonardo ulloa from almeria 28 goals and a consistant big striker, they didnt go up so would lose him anyway id think. lets pinch him carr?

Comment #21Ba can leave if he wants… He lost his confidence towards the last half of the season and couldn’t even control the ball properly at the end… Chelsea can have him and we can bring in a better player in the shape of Luuk de Jong… Perfect for Ashley as he’ll be worth triple of what he is now in 3-4 years and a few good years in the premier league…

DEBUCHY–VERTOGHAN-COLLO–SANTON
TIOTE. CABAYE
BEN ARFA. DZSUDZSAK
DE JONG
CISSE
Name 4 better teams than that in the premier league??

Comment #22rodallega is nearly 29 and very inconsistent, not to mention slow, plus we don’t need another big striker.
I think we should give Ba an ultimatum, lose the clause or go

Comment #24No matter what happens, we need 2 additional strikers. Cisse and ba got to ACON, then who are we left with? Shola who can’t play a whole game? We won’t even have loven or besty as backup. And what if ba or cisse get injured? Also think we need 2 centre backs to battle out a 1st team spot with collo, we all know how injury prone saylor is. Then one right back as well.
Sounds like a tall order I know, what does everyone think? Surely these are the minimum additions we need, especially with the games we’ll be playing in the euros as well next season.

Comment #25would be a good squad lad no doubt but i think the money they would want doesnt warrant it, as carr has done in the past look elswhere and get 2 for the price of one, its the way club is now!

Comment #26I can’t believe that I am reading this, people are happy to let him leave? For what it’s worth I will be delighted if he is still our player come Aug, and if we are going to sign another striker to replace Best, then Luke De Jong is the one I would have.

Comment #29Papiss – I agree… I think if there was ever a time that Ashley would be forced into buying more money’s worth of players it will be now… We have such a small squad and with the likes of European football… Cup matches, league mactches, injuries… It would be suicide not to bring in a load of fresh faces…
I reckon we need… 2 cbs (1 first teamer, one on the edges) a right back, defensive mid cover with smith and Guthrie gone, an attacking mid, a left forward and 2 strikers…
That’s 8 players and that’s the very least we need in my opinion… We’ll probably lose 8 in this window anyway so our squad won’t even be increased in size, only quality

Comment #32Any club that signs Ba will be taking an uninsurable c£25M gamble with his £7M fee, signing on fee, agents fees and a minimum 3 year contract at £4M a year.
Managers like Redknapp who don’t use their own money on the gamble might be interested – club owners who have to shell out and take the gamble will have a different view + Ba didn’t score for 12+ games at the end of the season.
My view – and I may be wrong – is that no club will take the gamble and Ba will stay.

My mate goes on and on about him having a big future. He is very pacey and quite skilled. Reminds me of bale crossed with messi but nowhere near as good as either.
He’s small and quick but doesn’t have the close control of little lionel. He is good at bombing down the wing and can cut in but doesn’t have a shot like bale. All bearing in mind this is in the a-league.
Hold on. This guy isn’t even who we’re linked with…….

Ba wise if he wants to leave so what….I am afraid de Jong wont come nor will Girourd he is off to Arsenal thats our problem getting them good but not too famous but since the big boys are fishing in our pond its a problem

Comment #37I don’t think we actually need that many at all ToonAndy because many of those positions will be covered by youth team stepping up, so…defensive midfield- Abeid, attaching midfield- Vuckic, left midfield we certainly don’t need anyone- marveaux, Jonas, ferguson, amalfitano.
I agree on cb and st, although not with numbers- if we buy two new Cbs in addition to williamson, colo and Taylor we will hve 5 for two places, not going to happen when we have bigger worries. So 1 cb competing for first team is enough. In terms of strikers I do agree we need two- one should and looks like it will be de Jong. The other is less important and more likely to be someone out of contract- I would personally have kept lovenkrands. Finally, rb is needed is Simpson goes- looks like they are keen on Anita so hopefully him and debuchy will be 1st choice and versatile backup if necessary. I think then 1cb, de Jong, Anita and debuchy will be enough (another striker but will only happen if ba goes. That being said will probably cost 28m so can see ba and tiote leaving to fund it.

Comment #38seems like giroud is off to arsenal, thats a shame. they are looking good for next season especially with RVP, Podolski and Giroud, we won’t be challenging them, theyre flying in this winow.
i wouldn’t be fussed if ba left, this is because he is easily replaceable and if he doesn’t want to be here then i dont want him. however if he does stay i’ll be quite pleased as he is obviously a good striker.
i think we will sign another striker whether or not ba leaves. this is because lovenkrands has left, best is being sold and ranger is surplus to requirements. this means we are 3 strikers down and when cisse and ba go to the ACON in january we will be left with only shola. this makes me think we will sign another striker definitely.
