Lots of news today about Newcastle trying to tie up some deals in the transfer market, and it seems that Newcastle’s big push has started.
Derek LLambias – Newcastle Managing Director in Holland today
And it’s not surprising that there’s just six days to go before pre-season starts, because Newcastle will try to get their new signings in by then.
News today that Newcastle have submitted an improved bid of £6M for French International full-back Matthieu Debuchy, but we wonder if that will be enough, although it’s a big improvement on the previous bid of just £4M.
And the really big news today is that Derek Lambias and club Secretary Lee Charnley, are in Holland meeting with FC Twente, about the possible sale of their two top players – striker Luuk de Jong and defender Douglas.
Newcastle have already bid at least £8M for the top 21 year-old Dutch Striker, so we are hoping that a deal can be struck, otherwise why would Newcastle be traveling to Holland?
And maybe Newcastle have decided to go after the 6’4″ Brazilian Douglas again, after they had pulled out some weeks ago, because of the various complexities surrounding the 24 year-old Brazilian’s transfer.
And finally it seems that Newcastle are very close to signing Australian youngster Curtis Good of the Melbourne Heart, and a deal is expected to be struck at around £400K for the 19 year-old very promising center-back, with his agent arriving in England today.
Get those four deals signed, sealed and delivered, and then we would need to go after Ajax 23 year-old Vurnon Anita, who can play full-back or defensive midfielder.
If Newcastle are successful with these bids, that would make five very good signings for Newcastle this summer.
We may even get more news on some of these deals today.
But there’s no doubt that Newcastle have begun their major push into the transfer market.
Comments welcome.

Comment #12If its true Llambias is in Holland a deal for De Jong is close. Why go to Hollad just for a general chat? Doesn’t make sense, you can do that on the phone.

Comment #16Guthrie and Lovenkrands have been released.
Best and Simpson should get us around £6m. £3m for each.
Best is worth £3m at least. Decent striker. Wouldn’t mind it if he stays.
It makes sense if we sign Debuchy and Anita, as apparently Anita can play at left-back and Debuchy can also play as a defensive midfielder. Versatility will save the club money. We are sorted on the wings (we have Raylor, Ben Arfa and Obertan on the right with Marveaux and Gutierrez on the left).
I can see me stating in january that we’ll need an attacking midfielder, a young striker and a centre-back as cover. I suppose one quality centre back will keep me happy until january.

Comment #17jayjo – BA can go for you?!!!
Really.
We could play over 50 games this season and you want to go in with Cisse (who is playing world cup qualifiers and the olympics during the summer), Shola and some one we have’nt even signed.
I think we need to strengthen the squad and have a minimum of four strikers, other wise injuries and the ACON could scupper us completely.
How easily BA’s goal scoring of last season is forgotten by some. Without him we would have floundered last season and have been at the foot of the table and Cisse would not have signed on.
He is obviously a busted flush and needs to be moved on.

Comment #18It will be suicidal to get rid of Ba. He is a great player and should be retained. We can afford to get rid of Ameobi, Simpson, Gosling and Williamson.

Totally agree with ya there.
Must be some kids on here that just don’t understand how important BA was for our season last year.
Without his goals we woulda been sitting around 15 th place at Christmas and not been able to attract Cisse.
We need to keep both strikers along with Cabaye if we’re gonna see us grow as a team.
We need a cb though as we seen too often that Willo was found out and made some woeful mistakes.
Keep as many quality players as possible and add quality otherwise we will be embarrassed in Europe

Comment #20Ba needs to be retained at all costs.
If we’re going to progress then De Jong cannot be a replacement but an addition.
Only players allowed to leave should be:
Williamson
Simpson (if not signing new contract)
Gosling
Best
Forster
We need De Jong, Debuchy, a Centre Half, another central midfield player.

Comment #22Signings which will improve squad in terms of ability and experience:-
Pieters
Boenisch – free transfer
Alderwiereld
Anita
Barnetta
Seedorf – free transfer
Boudabouz
De Jong
Kirkland – free transfer
Possible sales to offset against transfers:-
Elliott
Simpson
Forster
Best
Ranger
Williamson
Xisco – loan
Take into account the saving in wages following the release of:-
Smith
Guthrie
Lovendkrand
Above is opinion not fact but the additions are higher quality players that will strengthen and bring valuable experience to take the club forward and onto bigger stage.
Food for thought and debate. Cheers guys.
