The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Luuk de Jong took some visits to the football clubs who were interested in him last summer, just to get his own personal feeling for those clubs and the cities.
Luuk de Jong – St. James’ Park took his breath away
And the good news, maybe it’s even great news for Newcastle fans, is that he was mightily impressed with Newcastle upon Tyne and St. James’ Park.
And sources close to the 21 year-old striker, have told the Chronicle that his visit to St James’ for a Premier League game last season, took his breath away.
And he took some time out to go into the City Center, and sources said he was equally impressed with what Luuk described to them as an “exciting and interesting” city.
Luuk has already said he would be interested in coming to Tyneside, and this has to give fans some hope – that Derek LLambias and Lee Charnley can indeed get a deal struck for this exciting young player, in the next couple of days.
Newcastle have already had a bid of £8M turned down by FC Twente, and we’re hoping that a bid of around £10M will be enough to get the deal signed, sealed and delivered.
We know German club Borussia Monchengladbach, who finished 4th top of the Bundesliga last season and will be in the Champions league next season, have put in a bid of around £8.5M for the striker, which is slightly higher than the Magpies’ bid.
But Newcastle pay their transfer fees up front in cool cash, and that has to be a huge advantage to the selling clubs, when Newcastle do business with them.
We don’t know how close Newcastle are to getting this lad, but it would be a real coup for the club, if they can get this lad to Tyneside.

Comment #8Refreshing to hear the lads approach. Shows he’s being v.considered in his approach .
If we get him we all know he 100% wants to be here. Great attitude. Obviously not a mercenary 🙂

Comment #9Looks to be a smart guy and looking at the right things rather than just money. This is a high character guy that would work well in NUFC, I hope we get him in.

Comment #11would be nice to think he was picking his next club based on both support and the cause i.e building a squad with limited cash to challenge for either trophies or just ton finish somewhere near euro spots not many player like that now most are only motivated by money so as they say i believe it when i see it.

Comment #12Great to see he’s done his homework, Any top striker would love to be banging in goals at St James, I’ve never seen him play except for youtube clips but I trust our scouting team 100% these days and if they have 10 mllion pounds worth of faith in him then you just know he’s going to be brilliant.
