Great news for Newcastle fans today that 20 year-old James Tavernier has signed his new Newcastle contract, on his first day back to pre-season training.
James Tavernier – signs new deal at Newcastle
James tweeted the news about 15 minutes ago on his Twitter account:
“1st day back training and I’ve just signed my new contract with Newcastle
#GreatDay“
There has been a little bit of a worry recently that James may have wanted to move away from Newcastle, since his contract ran out last Sunday.
James is keen to taste first team football, and he may have left Newcastle in an attempt to get that first team football elsewhere, after he has played 50 games out on loan in the last eighteen months at Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons.
But it’s good news that one of Newcastle’s top youngsters has signed along the dotted line, on a three year deal, and presumably he will be ready to fight it out to get into the Newcastle first team in the upcoming season.
An alternative would be to send the lad out on a season long loan deal, maybe to a Championships club, but that’s for Alan Pardew to decide.
But this lad would be in great demand if he is allowed to go on loan for the coming season. James has played a couple of times for the Newcastle first team, and while he usually plays at right back, he can also do a job at center-back.
James had this to say to the Newcastle press:
“The dream is to play in the first team at Newcastle United.” “It would be great feeling to play in Europe and really push on.”
“It shows the manager has faith in me and that is a massive thing for a young player.”
And there could be more good news as there are reports that top Coventry City youngster Gael Bigirimana will be signing on at Newcastle.
Gael Bigirimana – 18 year-old Coventry midfielder to sign for Newcastle
The 18 year-old is said to be the next Michael Essien, and the news was that Newcastle were leading the race for the all action central midfielder.
And it will be great if we’ve got this lad to agree to come to Newcastle, which is what the reports in Coventry are saying.
Comments welcome.

Comment #45He’s a negative knobjockey of the highest order who winges more than the entire population of vegans, feminists, and eco warriors put together. That’s what he’s done. Much like you used to Indian before you calmed down a bit and stopped with most of your crap and now get less abuse. He just can’t seem to join the dots.

Comment #47Great news. I always rated this guy better than Simpson so I am glad he’s signed a new contract. If Simpson leaves it will be a shame but it will soon be forgotten if we manage to get Debuchy over the line.
Apparently we’ve agreed a fee for the young and promising midfielder from Coventry with a medical pending tomorrow. That teenager Bigirimana is a player I’ve seen very little of but at only 18 years old he has made some good noises around the English Leagues so he will be a very welcome addition.
Onwards and Upwards
Keep em coming 🙂

I hope this season, the majority will get behind the likes of Gosling, Obertan and even Ranger if he plays, slating them on the pitch does not benefit the team at all. Also if they don’t have the right attidute Pardew won’t be selecting them.

Comment #54nick 69 @12 …yeah i accept he can play there and in an emergency would do his best …lets just hope it dosent come to it. we need an experienced big centre back as priority ..douglas could be the one with curtis good a left footed center back to come in as back up.

Comment #60Good to see we’re keeping the quality and have solid players coming through. I’d be surprised if Pardew loans him off for the season with such a packed schedule though but a stint as a starter in the Championship would be ideal.
@Geordie: Bad news is the reschedule is up to our Europa opponents. I’d like to think they’ll be good sportsmen but with those stakes I doubt it.

Comment #69Indian Magpie – No hagas el Indio! That’s a sayin we have in my town and it basically means to act the fool. Indians tend to do that. I have many Indian friends and they constantly fooling around and it’s very emmm ‘corny’ at times. One example is your constantly desperate attempts to claim the first post, but then again many do it, but your sense of humour is along those lines. Even Russel Peters agrees with me and he’s Indian lol
Sorry if you might find this insulting but I am honestly not trying to cause an argument just trying to enlighten you on your culture from an outsiders perspective. Do you understand?
Anyway what I want to know is what the hell have you said now to cause all this frenzy?

Comment #75Indian- I use to enjoy some of your comments, but am afraid you crossed the line with the name change, this was followed by some distastful comments of a few sheep which thought by your idiot example decided to use disgusting words like turd etc.
Im sure Ed who works very hard to keep this blogg upto date would not approve of his site being used for such infantile comments, which disgust the many ,genuine supporters. We all have certain players who we do not like for whatever reason, but if they wear the NUFC shirt they deserve our support and should not be abused.
Other team supporters may read this blogg, what sort of impression will they get when we are knocking our own players.

Comment #79davybtoon – Tavernier will get his chance to shine in the first team. I have no doubt that he will. Pardew also rates him very highly and with all the extra games now in Europa it’s not a question of if, but when is he going to figure.
Pardew does gives youngsters a chance like he did with SamAmeobi but I would like to see more of Abeid as I see that kid becoming a star in the future, he’s a real talent.
Tomorrow we’ll hopefully see a medical in the Coventry kid and perhaps a development from Debuchy as he’s due back from holiday.
