Tavernier Signs Three Year Deal – Gail Bigirimana To Sign Too

Great news for Newcastle fans today that 20 year-old James Tavernier has signed his new Newcastle contract, on his first day back to pre-season training.

James Tavernier – signs new deal at Newcastle

James tweeted the news about 15 minutes ago on his Twitter account:

“1st day back training and I’ve just signed my new contract with Newcastle #GreatDay

There has been a little bit of a worry recently that James may have wanted to move away from Newcastle, since his contract ran out last Sunday.

James is keen to taste first team football, and he may have left Newcastle in an attempt to get that first team football elsewhere, after he has played 50 games out on loan in the last eighteen months at Gateshead, Carlisle United, Sheffield Wednesday and MK Dons.

But it’s good news that one of Newcastle’s top youngsters has signed along the dotted line, on a three year deal, and presumably he will be ready to  fight it out to get into the Newcastle first team in the upcoming  season.

An alternative would be to send the lad out on a season long loan deal, maybe to a Championships club, but that’s for Alan Pardew to decide.

But this lad would be in great demand if he is allowed to go on loan for the coming season.  James has played a couple of times for the Newcastle first team, and while he usually plays at right back, he can also do a job at center-back.

James had this to say to the Newcastle press:

“The dream is to play in the first team at Newcastle United.” “It would be great feeling to play in Europe and really push on.”

 “It shows the manager has faith in me and that is a massive thing for a young player.”

And there could be more good news as there are reports that top Coventry City youngster Gael Bigirimana will be signing on at Newcastle.

Gael Bigirimana – 18 year-old Coventry midfielder to sign for Newcastle

The 18 year-old is said to be the next Michael Essien, and the news was that Newcastle were leading the race for the all action central midfielder.

And it will be great if we’ve got this lad to agree to come to Newcastle, which is what the reports in Coventry are saying.

    Has anyone heard about NUFC scrapping the reserve team, I read it somewhere but dont know where. I know in KK days this was being considered. Could have serious repercussions with the youngsters development, with players being loaned out.

    They have Vertonghen and Oscar in the bag too. AVB has been given a massive budget for the summer. Won’t be pretty for us tbh.

    @ Kyo the team has to settle in, it will take a couple of seasons before they become a force. NUFC have an established team, so far at least lol

    @davy
    Just saw that, i’d rather have Ba and Cisse, we’ve shown we can do without Tiote last season.
    And if we possibly add a CM, we’re even better off.
    Depends a bit on who we’re bringing in tho.

    So the medicals tomorrow are for Good and Bigirimana? Wonderful for the depth not so exciting for the full first team

    Tav signing up is decent as well looks decent though still very unproven Id imagine a loan next season would be a good thing for him

    @DannyA
    De Jong is on prolonged holiday due to his involvment with the national team in the EC.
    We should pay attention to Douglas tho.
    He’s not involved but not away either. Twente must be resigned to losing him and doesnt want to cup tie him.

    @WWYCD
    Tav spoke about going on a full season loan to the championship, and i agree, it’s either that or stay home and fight and wait for your chance.

    Every international player from that tournament is that. Cabaye and HBA too.

    WWYCD aye was having this arguement the other day with me brother over the phone!

    He was saying why let a class player like tav go on a free and replace him with clyne whos unproven but the fact is hes prob a good 2 seasons ahead in terms of development and thats what tav desperatly needs a full season at a good level not half season league 1 or half a dozen cup games if anything keeping him here for the season will hinder his progress

    It doesn’t matter if de Jong or Douglas played tonight. Pretty sure Lee Ryder says as this is only a qualifier they wouldn’t be cup tied for the group stage

    Barnetta said he was going to get some fresh air for about 3 years at Schalke.

    Exactly my opinion on the kid mate, he gets raved about like he is the answer to all our defending issues but whats the highest level he has been at?

    Clyne has played a lot more football at a higher level. I’d love Clyne to join us tbh

    as for tav no to a loan back up right back behind debuchy, lads nearly 21 hes either good enough or hes not n they must think he is
    u can loan a player out all u want but for playing in the prem is the only way u will find if they can cope
