Newcastle Manager Straight Down To Business

It’s hardly surprising that Alan Pardew is looking forward to this season more than he ever has done, after the remarkable performance of his Newcastle team last season, when we finished 5th top and qualified for the Europa League and were in with a chance of the Champions league in the last game of the season.

Newcastle top three coaches – Stone, Carver and Pardew

We think the pre-season set of games is as follows,  but Newcastle have not announced all their pre-season games yet, so this list is not yet official, but it’s based on what other clubs have already announced:

Fri 13 July KO 6;30 pm Chemnitzer FC - Lost 1-0Stadion an der Gellertstraße - Chermnitz, Germany
Mon 16 July KO 7:00 pm AS Monaco - Won 1-0Landsberg am Lech, Germany
Sat 21 July KO 7:30 pmFernerbahce - Drew 1-1 Sonnenseestadion, SC Ritzing, Austria
Fri 27 July KO 8:45 pmOlympiacos - Drew 1-1 4-4 on penalties Algarve Stadium, Faro, Portugal
Sat 28 July KO 8:45 pmFC Braga - won 2-1 Algarve Stadium, Faro, Portugal
Sat 4 August KO 5:00 pm Den Haag - Drew 0-0Kyocera Stadium, Den Haag
Tues 7 Aug KO 7:30 pmHartlepool - Won 5-1Victoria Park, Hartlepool
Sat 11 Aug 3:00 pmCardiff - Lost 4-1Cardiff City Stadium

Newcastle cannot play any of their pre-season fixtures at St. James’ Park,  because the ground is being used for the Olympics,  but the first game is at home against Tottenham Hotspur, now managed by former Chelsea and Porto boss Andre Villas-Boas.

That would be a good time to give Andre his first competitive loss at Spurs. 😀

Alan Pardew was as down to earth as ever this morning, and he had this to say to the local press:

“We’ve got plenty of time.”  “We’ve got to make sure we’re ready for Tottenham, and the sports science team are in charge of that.”

“Me and John Carver have to make sure the players, tactically and technically, know what we’re doing this season.”

“It was nice to see everyone again after the holidays. I’m looking forward to the first day.”

The reports from the Benton training ground this morning are that the lads are upbeat, with lots of smiles going around, as they start preparing for what hopefully will be another great season for Newcastle United.

But we still need to bring in about four new top players before September 1st, and keep the best players we already have at the club.

If we can do that, there must be every reason to believe that Newcastle can have another outstanding season.

Howay The Lads!!
