An excellent first interview with Romain Amalfitano today on nufcTV by Rob Scanlon, and Romain doesn’t yet speak English, so he replied in French and it was translated by Rob.
Romain Amalfitano in training – watched by John Carver
It’s a very good interview, so those of you have a subscription to nufcTV it’s obviously worth seeing it, and for those of you who haven’t got a subscription, here’s some of what the young Frenchman said.
Romain says he has settled in very quickly at Newcastle and he had already found a flat in Newcastle, and that had helped him a lot.
He stressed that the players at Newcastle have just gone out of their way to help him settle in, and there were video shots of Ryan Taylor and Jonas Gutierrez messing around with Romain on the training field, and it looks like the spirit at Newcastle is great and as good as ever.
It’s obvious that the coaches and manager at Newcastle go out of their way to make the players feel at home and settled, and they keep the atmosphere light on the training field, but of course that doesn’t mean they don’t press the players during the training sessions.
Amalfitano said that Demba Ba, Gabby Obertan and Mehdi Abeid in particular had been helping him settle in, and it was a lot easier with there being so many Frenchmen at Newcastle.
Romain has met Newcastle fans both near his flat, and in Eldon Square, but because he cannot yet speak English – he is taking lessons – he couldn’t really talk to them.
The fans wanted a photograph with him, but in the future he hoped to be able to have a conversation with them, once he learns a little bit of English.
The 22 year-old said he knew coming to Newcastle would not be easy for him, but he wanted to repay the trust that had been placed in him by Newcastle United, and he hopes to impose himself at the club, and play as well as possible.
Obviously he wants to do well at Newcastle and wants to succeed, and he said his goal was not just to do well for himself, but for the team, which is all important.
He’s right there – let’s make a note of that. 😀
Romain comes over very well in this interview, and certainly the Newcastle Board and Chief Scout Graham Carr seem to do their homework, when checking out the characters of Newcastle’s new signings.
Comments welcome.

Comment #246Here’s some negativity:
Other clubs are spending 20-30 million on each signing while we can’t even afford a free transfer (hoilett).
Football is shit.

Comment #267Wow…quiet few days on the transfer front fellas?! Normally only see 200-300 posts on a matchday or following a strong potential signing! 🙂
FYI I am a 6’4 and 15st holding midfielder so would hopefully be pushing you starters, if not I would appreciate a loan move to join with Hoots or Clarky ! 🙂

Comment #269Phil at 13. I didnt say anyone denigrated him. My point is that we are busy shipping out good players like him ( and he is a fine midfielder overall ) and Best, and maybe Simmo but so far not replacing them. Early days yet though, I appreciate that. I just hope we spend the money. We need to build a squad for the Europe league and Prem campaign, but we have shipped out more than we have taken in , just when we need to build things up. And thats without even referring to the academy guys who have been offloaded. I just hope Pards doesnt think that two signings will do it ?

Comment #270Ruddy at 236. Lovenkrands really did well for us in that division. On his day, he’s an excellent finisher. He was rarely given credit for that.

you need to take into account that Pardew will push some of the young guns up into the first team this season. Players such as Abeid, Vuckic and Tav; we didn’t really use them last season. Fergy is probably going to feature a whole lot as well this season.
And we have bought in Amalfitano and Biggi. And I think Gosling might have an important season this year.
We still need players of course and we need to sort out the Simmo situation. As I have said before we only need a first team of 22-23 players the rest should be youngsters 🙂
