Good news just posted on the Newcastle web-site, that the club have signed 19 year-old Australian center-back Curtis Good, on a long six year deal.
Curtis Good signs six year deal at Newcastle
The former Melbourne Heart defender has signed a long term deal on Tyneside, and it had been known for several weeks that he would be signing for Newcastle, but presumably he passed his medical today and signed along the dotted line.
The first team squad should be returning from Portugal today, so he will get a chance to join up with them, maybe tomorrow at training, for the first time.
And we would expect that Good will get his first game for the first team on Saturday night, when Newcastle play Den Haag in Holland, for their second last pre-season game of the summer.
Good is a very highly rated youngster, and gained his first cap for the Australian U20 side earlier this summer, but is expected to be initially part of the Newcastle Development squad, but could get a quick promotion to the first team squad, if he impresses in training.
On the web-site Newcastle said the following:
“The club wish to thank Melbourne Heart for its professionalism and cooperation throughout the transfer.”
So it seems the Melbourne club have handled the negotiations very professionally, and that’s to their credit. The fee was undisclosed but thought to be around £400K, and he joins Romain Amalfitano and Gael Bigirimana on Tyneside.
It’s great to welcome Curtis to Newcastle, and we hope he has a great career ahead of him for Newcastle United.
Comments welcome.

Just listening to Australia – Manic Street Preachers in celebration of this signing. It will make a great song for a compilation video of all his best moments in a toon shirt, of which I am sure he’ll have many.
Good luck son!

Comment #166 year deal! The lad must have really impressed on his trial. I have every faith in our scouting system though and if he has the same sort of impact as Bigirimana and Amalfitano then we are onto a winner! Here’s hoping we can get Debuchy, Anita, Douglas and Carroll/Remy signed on the dotted line and I will be a very very happy man 🙂

Comment #21Has anyone heard anything about a Bordeaux winger called Gouffan. Could be good having two pacey wingers with plenty of competition, Marveaux, Ben Arfa, Obertan, Jonas…..
I reckon though Spider could play a more defensive midfield role like he did towards the end of the season, he is composed, skilful and reads the game pretty well….we just need some pace on the flanks I reckon?……

Comment #23We are completely overhauling our development team. Like a breath of fresh air. Hope the 3 players make it big at our club.
Now where is the world class player in defense we need who would walk into the first team like NOW! For e.g Debuchy

Comment #24Tavernier n sammi are 20year old n both quality players n they only got 3 year deals, so that fact this kid got 6year deal at 19 gives some indication of how good he will be

Comment #25I am probably getting ahead of myself here, so i’m saying it before anyone accuses me of getting ahead of myself 😛
Getting a strong backbone of young players is certainly in the making. Seeing as Tav looks pretty comfy at CB and only will be getting better with experience, and this aussie lad getting a MASSIVe 6 year deal from the getgo, surely AP and crew must rate him quite highly already.
So the question is, do we need a first team CB? It’ll only diminish the chances for Tav and possibly Good if he’s Curtis enough…. I mean good enough 😉

Comment #26Really canny signing but i hope this ain’t the signing Pards was talking about the other day coming in this week. We really need to stop beating around the bush and start getting some first team players through the door. Debuchy, Douglas as well as Good would really strengthen us in defence big time. Anita would also be a good capture but i believe that one is a no go. As for a striker, maybe Carroll or Remy.

Comment #27Well if Good is as good as everyone thinks he is, with Tav and young Streete already at the club and hopefully Fergie going to stake a claim in the long term with Krul thorwn into the mix, thats four of our back five sorted for the next ten years 😀

Comment #33I know we’ve been linked with gouffran and we do have a lot of wingers these days but I’d like to see Scott Sinclair brought in, young, English, fast, lots of skill with a good eye for goal…. just saying but he hits all our criteria. Could well be available for around £6-7 million. I’m sure him and Ben arfa charging down the wings would strike fear in many a team ????

I’d love us to get Griezmann but I think we’d easily be looking at £10-12 million for him and for someone still very young I don’t think Ashley would risk him. Top marks for ambition though, I’ve followed that kid for 2-3 years now and he is definitely top draw ????
