There have been a number of fans contact the blog that Erik Pieters was at the game yesterday at St. James’ Park, so we don’t know if that means that Newcastle may be ready to sign him, or that he was just visiting for other reasons, as he tries to recover from injury.
Erik Pieters – sighted by many fans yesterday at St. James’ Park
Of course Erik is good friends with Tim Krul and would have played with Vurnon Anita in the Dutch Youth sides, so probably knows him too, so he could be just visiting on his own, and it’s a puddle jump away from Holland, so we’re not sure what we should read into this, if anything.
This picture will probably now be doing the rounds today – and we don’t know if it will turn out to be like when Ben Arfa was photographed at Newcastle Airport in August of 2010 – and that was true because he came over at that time to try to force a move to Newcastle through from Marseilles.
And Ben Arfa was eventually successful and he was our Man of the Match yesterday, rather easily with over 60% of the vote and he looked very sharp – not bad for somebody who was supposed to be injured.
So we published the photo – just in case – and because it’s already on the Internet – but we still wouldn’t read too much into this.
However Erik can play at both left back and center-back, so he would be a good signing and of course Newcastle almost signed him last summer – but guess what?
We couldn’t agree a fee with his club PSV Eindhoven – that was a surprise. 😀
Oh, and I almost forgot, one of our readers, Aaron, asked Erik if he was coming to Newcastle and he said”
“Possibly – I don’t know.”
So that seems pretty definitive – we’ll see. 😀

Comment #2I would like to declare to my Toon brothers, that tonight marks the end of my alcohol drinking days. It is a fruitless endeavour.

Comment #6brklyngeordie – on guti or jonas lol i understand ya gripe with people not picking him on there first 11 alright he not the most flamboyant or graceful player but the lad works his sock off no matter what postion he asked to play lets be honest how many players do you know that will play any postion required for the good of the team not many coz the all want to play the postions that made them famous and on the wages they are on

Comment #7Was atthe game yesterday, first one in 6 years & almost lost my voice from shouting 😉 lol
Guti is a geordie, no doubt about it, HBA was on fire & we should have had at leat another penalty from him & at least 2 Spurt players sent off for fouling him, awesome 🙂
Cracking goal from Demba, looking forward to seeing more of them throughout the season, shame Cisse couldn’t have gotten one too 🙂
Hope we sign Pieters, he’d be a great assest to the club tho if Simmo is staying, not sure who’d get dropped as both Santon & Simmo did a job yesterday??
Well done to all the lads, sloppy goal conceded but cracking start to the season 🙂

Comment #8Really not keen on Pieters, I’ve gone off him a lot. Esp if he were to come in instead of Debuchy

Comment #9Fantastic result guys! I couldnt have been prouder and I actually had a few bets with some Tottenham supporter friends of mine, glad I came out on top! I Pieters would be a great addition, but I am hoping we get Douglas over the line, we really need another CB rather than an RB or LB at this point I believe, although Perchinho was fantastic yesterday as always!
@Solaidback
The goal that the Spurs scored was offsides, I was able to see it in the post game discussion yesterday.
