There’s a surprise in Newcastle’s 22 man squad named for the Premier League this season, and that is that Xisco is in it, and the 26 year-old Spaniard is serving the last year of his five year deal at Newcastle, and since he ‘s a striker we suppose Newcastle will try to use him this season.

It’s very interesting that Xisco is in the list,  but he hasn’t played at all in pre-season, or for any Newcastle side this season, as far as we can tell.

Newcastle are paying the lad £50K/week – so maybe he can earn some of those wages this season.

What do you think?

He’s in the list because we don’t have more than 22 senior players.

Probably not so interesting, i mean no-one in the club is missing off the list, as the rest come into the under 21 section so probably naming him, because we can without leaving anyone out, i believe that there is still room for another 3 players to be added also? January deals maybe? definitely will not be seeing Xisco play.

I was surprised we didn’t see him play in pre-season. I really wish I could comment on Xisco, but he’s played so infrequently it’s difficult to form a fair opinion on him.

I noticed Nile Ranger’s name on the young players list. What’s happening with him? He seems to have been forgotten about. I thought he’d have been sold or loaned out, or simply “given away” to another club like Barton was.

Don’t read too much into this. Everyone 21 or over at a club HAS to be named unless they have an injury which will keep them out until the next squad submission (or if there are over 25 eligible players). The club had no option but to put him down!

seeing as he found it hard to get in to deportivo’s team in the second tier of spanish football i cant see him cutting the mustard in the prem, but hey, surely a cup appearance wouldnt hurt? on 50k a week surely we should at least give him another go?

I thought Xisco wasn’t in this list until I saw Jimenez Tejada, Francisco…. Xisco is so anonymous that that is the first time I have seen his proper full name.

Actually that’s not strictly true. It’s entirely up to the club whether or not they choose to include an over-age player in the 25 man squad.

For example, this was the squad of 21 players that the club listed at the beginning of last season:
Ameobi, Ba, Ben Arfa, Best, Cabaye, Coloccini, Elliot, Guthrie, Gutierrez, Harper, Krul, Lovenkrands, Marveaux, Obertan, Perch, Simpson, Smith, S Taylor, R Taylor, Tiote, Williamson
    Source: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/feature/_/id/952188/premier-league-25-man-squads

As you can see, Xisco wasn’t named in last year’s squad (even though we had less than 25 eligible players) and he was sent out on loan for the whole season instead.

Similarly, Forster wasn’t included either because we already had three other GKs on the list, and he was sent out on loan as well.

The fact that Xisco has been named this year probably just means that they’re having trouble finding a club who are willing to take him on loan, so there’s no harm including him in the list, just in case of emergencies. At least he isn’t depriving anyone else of a place in the squad – I’m sure they wouldn’t have done it if that had been the case.

Got got GOT to play Xisco in the Europa matches, get him some playing time out of England where he has not impressed to get his form up because we’re likely going to need him!

Is it true that Adam Campbell doesn’t need to be in the 25-player list and still be able to play for the team?

As others have mentioned, not surprising or interesting. We don’t have enough players to fill the 25-man roster, might as well include him. Use him in a meaningless cup game if need be.

Must agree more with comment 4 than 5. I certainly have not seen enough of xisco-ranger to form an opinion. But, what a bad piece of business, if xisco is really that bad and we paid 6.5 on him and given him a 5 year contract. And, is Ranger really a serial delinquent (i.e. thick) who can’t grow out of the gangsta mode? Don’t these teams have psychologists etc.? Can’t one person in there do some man-management on him? If the answers to above questions are not the ones we want, then what’s he doing in our ranks?

Morning lads 🙂 rise and shine!

Speaking of Xisxo, it would have been silly not to include him wouldn’t it – truth to be told we probably couldn’t offload him 🙁

But it also does show we should have brought in another forward – Pardew knows this, but he has to do with what he got I suppose 🙂

On another note, does anybody know if we are still stuck with Ranger?

@Jesper, Just about time to turn in for the night here!

Guys like Xisco and Ranger should be getting a shot in the Europa League if we are not loaning them out, but that’s been the trend with the two of them.

Ranger is still a starting Newcastle Reserve Player far as I know, and unless he can buckle down and show us those flashes of hard work again, he’ll drop into obscurity, probably get signed to the SPL or a lower division.

We may have turned around our share of badboys, but they were usually worth the effort (like Ben Arfa).

Ibiza- I appreciated your thoughtful response. Just to clarify I was using dysfunctional in the traditional sense rather than the zany context you implied. With your extrovert style( on here) you don’t need to play a Peter Sellars character that the dysfunctional poster claimed to impersonate. We can all give some people a wide berth providing we recognise them – I would much prefer to devote my leisure time in enjoyable pursuits rather than infantile play. It was hardly like finding out that there’s no father Christmas but I can’t say
that I was not amazed that the blog had been corrupted as the poster said. I certainly will be selective in following up the inane and
overly bizarre and look to engage with the proper fans not the drama queens, turf warriors and the plain ignorant ( some manage to be all three). I was brought up listening to my grandfather talk of Hughie Gallacher and winning the League in 1927 and my father as a child saw us win the 1955 FA cup. Aside from the Fairs Cup in 1968-69 we’ve had nothing to celebrate since. So I find it nonsensical that fans say most of the negative things they do about Ashley because owners come and go but we support NUFC. I HAVE SAID MORE THAN ENOUGH . Thanks again for taking the time to respond. Have a good day.
