We are not the only ones that have noticed that Sylvain Marveaux has not made the 18 man squad for the last few games, and when he has played for Newcastle this season, he’s looked less than impressive.
Sylvain Marveaux – what’s happened to this player?
Sylvain had been dogged with injury for the last two years, but all that seemed to get cleared up, and fe was fully fit in pre-season for the first time in a long while, and it was hoped he would start to star for the Magpies.
But that hasn’t happened (so far), and he’s now almost a forgotten man on Tyneside, after he was signed to some fanfare in June of last year, when they whisked him away from Liverpool and signed him in the early hours of Saturday morning, 18th June, one day after we had signed Demba Ba.
The Frenchman hasn’t played for Newcastle for over a month now, and he has made three starts and four sub appearances this season
Alan Pardew had this to say in the local press today about Sylvain:
“Sylvain is not out of the equation.” “At any time he could be called upon.” “I have no fears or bones about putting him in.” “He is trying to earn his place.”
“Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson have done well and they are both in his position.” “Gabby Obertan has also been doing well.” “There is nobody who isn’t available for selection.”
“I wouldn’t dismiss anybody.”
Sylvain signed a five-year deal last year, so his contract runs out in the summer of 2015, and we really hope he can regain his form and start playing well again for the Magpies.
The 26 year-old has loads of talent, and it’s his job, along with manager Alan Pardew – to find out how to get the very best out of those skills he possesses.
But there is an awful lot of competition on the wings these days at Newcastle, and Romain Amalfitano has also not been heard from for a while – although this is his first season at the club, and he will be given ample time to settle in by the manager.
We only have to remember Davide Santon last season, and how much the Italian youngster has improved since he first arrived from Inter Milan, after a slow start at the club.
There’s still plenty of time for both Frenchmen Marveaux and Amalfitano to do well at Newcastle, and we hope that’s exactly what happens.

Comment #89Ibiza , naturally, though I still subscribe to the uglier a player is the better he plays theory.

Comment #95Belfast….This could be tricky, I’m more of a night owl when it comes to fifa. I’m sure one day our time will come. Don’t fret though, the other half I assume if preferable to playing fifa…let’s hope so anyway 🙂

So, when they get their teeth fixed, mentioning no names, do they lose their touch ?
Or is ugliness for ever ?

Comment #97Hopefully Marveau will come through, but if not, we have to put it dowm as a failure, and a good call from liverpool. To be fair, I think we need to rein in our constant praise of our transfer market purchases. Maybe its just me, but Abeid, Amalfitano, Marveaux, Obertan have hardly blown us away……and incidentally, much as I like Santon as a footballer, he was missing in action again for the West Brom goal, hand in the air, not getting close to his man. Again. I still reckon he’s worth putting on the right, to help with the quality of our crosses from that side.

Comment #100With everyone performing to their capabilities, the best team is:
Krul
Santon Saylor Coloccini Gutierrez
Anita
Ben Arfa Cabaye Marveaux
Cisse Ba

Comment #101Keeping possession and contributing to attacks is more important than winning the odd tackle. That’s why I have selected Anita instead of Tiote. I just think Anita’s better on the ball. The only negative is his height.

Comment #102@dunaneek, nice formation, but i think this would be more balanced:
——————————Krul—————————
——————–Colo————Saylor—————
Santon————Bigi———-Perch——–Jonas
———Benny————Cabaye————-Fergie
——————————–Cisse———————
Good wingbacks, skilfull and quallity wing forwards, creative attacking midfielder and one box to box midfielder EPL standart and CDM capable of doing his duties. Defense pair is solid too.. Keeper is as good as always. For me the only question is Cabaye. if he could find his form we’ll win.
back up plan:
subs: Obertan IN, Jonas Out (Fergie LB), Sammy IN Perch or Bigi Out, And Shola IN for Cisse if he doesn’t score in 75min..
—————————Krul—————————-
—————–Colo————–Saylor—————
Santon——————-Bigi—————–Fergie
—————-Benny————–Cabaye———
——Obertan———–Shola————-Sammy.
IMO,
Santon, Jonas and Fergie are much bigger threat going foward (and with that in mind opposition has more questions – easier to defend). Santon, Jonas and Fergie can defend as well as Simmo if not better. Santon could cause more problems crossing with his right foot, over lapping benny who cuts inside to shot with his magical left. Jonas is a good Left Wing Back wich tends to cut inside, he can take on his man, or by cuting inside create some space for fergie to put a nice cross. Cabaye could pass a through ball two cisse as well as dictate the tempo of the game with his range of passing. Perch and Bigi in my eyes are good pair to have protecting cabaye’s back. Cabaye also usually defens well. I really would like to see my formation against liverpool. I stated my case so i’d like to hear something from you (Blog Readers and Writer). Thank You.

Comment #104Think it is just as simple as Pards said Obertan, Sameobi and Fergie are all playing well an Marveaux has to earn his place. I have no problem with that
