It was looking to be a Newcastle win after 80 minutes, but it was cruelly taken away in the last nine minutes of the game at Stoke tonight, when the home side scored two simple goals from high crosses into the box.
A stressed out Alan Pardew after the game tonight
But the Newcastle United manager, Alan Pardew , now under considerable stress, has said the lads can turn it around if they fight like they did tonight at the Britannia ground.
It was another terrible loss, but our lads were unlucky – and it’s painful for me to say this – but it really looked like we could get another famous win tonight – but it was not to be.
This is what Alan Pardew told BBC Sport after the game:
“The improvement from Sunday was immense and we deserved something I thought we were the better side I thought we could have a penalty at 1-0 but two sucker punches have cost us.”
“It’s galling because we’re on this run and we’re having setback after setback and I feel sorry for the players.” “That team won’t go far short if we play like that.”
Newcastle have now gone five Premier League games without a win but remain in 14th place in the league, but we are now just 2 points above third bottom Southampton.
Coloccini made a huge difference to the side tonight, and we just have to hope that Ben Arfa can come back within a week or two.
But the truth is that it’s looking like it could be a hard and long Premier League season for Newcastle, and we have yet to play the top sides in the league, but consecutive losses to West Ham, Swansea, Southampton and Stoke are scary, to say the least.

Comment #1We were better than last game to draw any positives, but then again, we didn’t do half bad against Swans either.
I take nothing from the increase in performance until we actually get a win.

Comment #4Far short of what pardew you idiot escaping relegation that what he must be talking about as we are not getting near the original goal of europe again.
Repost:
I could see a club like united coming in for HBA in jan with a reasonable offer not massive. He is good enough to play in a top team easily and would be even more effective at the likes of chelsea for me he would be considered one of the best players in the prem if he played for a top team. We will obviously reject the offer but will he want to go and force it through thats the question.

Comment #5Jonas is finished as a forward or mid ..he cant turn with the ball anymore ,,cant beat a man ,,remember him flying at players beating one after another ..Unless Pardew has told him not to ? Full back for Jonas ..Santon on the right for a while ..
I always thought give SIMPSON a chance but the last few games he is a massive disgrace and Simpson should never play another game for the TOON .
He does not give 2 F**s ..he does not care .
And Curtis Goode will do a better job than willo ..come to think of it so would me Grannie. HE is Absolute Shite as a Footballer . SHocking
Maybe the FA will give us special dispensation to Sign a center back ? If they watch any video of him playing in the prem they might be embarrassed enough to let us sign one ?

Di Matteo, i dunno, aye, he’s done well with Chelsea, but he’s so unproven, it makes me uneasy to think of him as a genuine option.
AP was the first englishman ever to recive the two awards last year.
Where are we now. It’s mind boggling to say the least.

I know many disagree, but I was fine with us playing ugly football and winning games – considering it was only 2 years after relegation!
But then that run of games towards the end of the season came, where we played 4-2-3-1, won 6 on the trot and only conceded one goal.
Why on earth did he switch back to 4-4-2? I just cannot fathom why. If it’s genuinely just to please Ba, then that is disgraceful.

Comment #13Considering we lack off-the-ball movement and goals – and Marveaux scored a good goal resulting from good off-the-ball movement on his last start – it’s pretty bizzare that he’s still being sidelined.

Comment #14Simpson, Willo, Jonas. Not good enough, Tiote had a bad night. Shame as there were massive positives.
Anita playing so high showed that Pardew was willing to try something different. We can kick on and beat Wigan on Monday. That was such a kick in the nuts though as we deserved to win hands down.

Comment #15Wont go far short of what Alan? Top ten? avoiding relegation? Feel sorry for the players all you like, they are on a healthy wage as are you. Its the paying fans that travel to the likes of southampton and stoke that i feel sorry for. Its expensive enough having a season pass without travelling the country supporting us. This is a results based business so pull your socks up and get the results ffs. The lads did seem more determined for the win and i bet Tiote, Williamson and Collocini are gutted after gifting them the win and if they aren’t gutted then they need a tongue lashing.
5 points from a possible 24 is absolutely dismal, we are second bottom of the form table to bottom placed qpr.

Comment #16I remember when we signed demba ba i was speaking to a couple of West ham fans when i was in London on a night out. They said he will get you goals but he will always drop deep and get the ball the take ages to do anything with it and be very selfish only looking to shoot. They said that west ham played better football without him in the side as he constantly messed up the flow and rhythm of the attacks.
Thought this was sour grapes but i can see where they were coming from definitely.

Comment #17just a thought, if we play well next year and get about 15 points we can still be on the verge of relegation, ive just seen december’s fixture’s and it scares me.
we dont only have tough games next month but we have to play them again near the end off season has any body thought of this.

If we don’t sign any player in January, If I were Pardew I would resign straight away. He is getting the mickey taken out of him big style and is paying the price.
As someone has said. Instead of sitting behind your keyboards criticising, go to the match, get behind your team and support. If you haven’t got a ticket they are selling them ridiculously cheap.
Actually create and atmosphere in the ground.
I can’t remember the last time we had a decent atmosphere. Even the away fans at nearly every match have sang ” where’s your famous atmosphere”
Anyone who can blame Pardew, but goes onto say that injuries and suspensions and europa and players off form are just excuses, I’m sorry, you are clearly not a reasonable human being who can form a though process, so I have no place for discussion with you.
People here are all too happy to criticise and demand a solution, yet the same people will sit with their hands in there pockets and sit quiet at the match, and probably boo at the end.
If you need to blame anyone, blame lambias.
We can’t fix anything untill January, so how about giving the lads our support and we can start to earn our back our reputation as the best fans in the world.

Comment #21think most played half decent esp ba and cisse playing together and anita suits the more attacking midfielder.
one thing did stand out though and thats we definatly need a new cb/rb or lb and i would rest krull for a fair few games now as all he does is kick it long to the opposing side everytime.
on the few times he did roll it to colo it resulted in great play but 19/20 times he kicked it we lossed the ball.
MOM top 3 for me was 1 santon 2 anita 3 ba but close to cisse and colo

Comment #22Repost from last thread:
It’s us that needs to lift them team, not the team lift us, at the moment. We might pay the money to watch but it’s embarrassing when there’s no support in the stadium until we have an attack, or get a corner etc.
Saw on another forum the other day a man utd. fan commented that our support was shite when they played us and they didn’t know what had happened to the well renowned cauldron we had.
Starting on monday, we need to get behind them properly, back to the old days, example being the atmosphere when we were playing Boro in the relegation season.
No matter what you think of management/tactics etc, no player is going to play their heart out if they don’t have the backing of their own fans.

Comment #23Lets be clear. We did not deserve to lose that game. Stoke are an abomination of a football team. However, we created nothing. Our goal was from a goalkeeping mistake.
Demba Ba is without doubt the most selfish player we have ever had in my lifetime. He NEVER passes the ball. Cisse was through on goal and he refused to give him it. He refuses to play Left wing, even though it helps the team. He is only interested in number one. Thats why he has a release clause in his contract. Thats why he demanded £100k a week.
He may be our highest scorer, but seeing as Papiss Cisse finally got himself a decent goal, we should show faith in him and take Ba down a few notches with a shift on the left hand side.
We weren’t bad tonight, but we weren’t great either. Relegation battle.

Comment #28Repost:
@Transfer Sage
You are right about our play. I agree it has been abysmal at times. I just think that some of the comments that have been made are so far fetched its unreal! I not only see see the lack of confidence in the players, but the supports lack of confidence in out team. As soon as Williamson has the ball, you hear the crowd cringing, and he panics. Its the same on the other end of the scale Our impact players feed off the support. Take Ben Arfa for example every time hes on the ball, the crowd are up off their seats willing him to do his magic. And low and behold he produces something incredible that gets us going again.
I’m not saying that the crowd is the main reason we are playing so badly, I just think that with our fans, there’s always an extra effort and spark in the players when we are at full volume. For example we gave man utd and liverpool (Caroll in particular) a right drumming and the place was bouncing
Why not show that passion against Wigan Monday night?

Comment #32Massive improvement on the last game – bit of an overstatement – we created very little, played very little football. Two bad teams on show and they were slightly less bad than us with a bit more physical strength.
Whatever the problems with injuries and suspensions,we look a team devoid of belief and confidence and that comes from the manager.
If you believe there will be a sudden strengthening in January, where have you been the last couple of years.I’ve been looking around for 3 worse teams in the prem for the last month and I’m struggling to name them.
This season has the same worrying smell as the relegation season.Pundits and bookies dont think we will go down simply because they are looking at last seasons results

Comment #34I’m sorry… but Mike Williamson is very very poor and most often at fault for the goals we have conceded. We needed to bring in a physical, robust and agressive defender to compliment the technique and ability to read the game that Mr Collocini posseses. This has been our weakness all season.

Comment #35Seem to recall Pardews response to the failure to bring in the CB we needed in July was that it would hamper the development of up and coming talent like Streete and Goode hmmm! I would feel a bit more confident if he didnt keep coming out with an interminable stream of crap

Comment #36Pardew will sort the form out, I cant believe there are people calling for his sacking, it makes me embarrassed to be a Newcastle supporter. We have lots of injuries, and not a lot can be done except to reinforce in January with at least a decent centre half and another attacking centre mid. But Everyone must stick by the team and have faith!

Comment #37Unlucky….HAH….whatever, we were fortunate to be ahead 1-0.
Haven’t looked an attacking side in the last 5 EPL games…hardly any shots on goal and time spent in the attacking third…and are set pieces and corners are the laughing stock of the league.
More performances like the start of the season until now and hello Championship.
Newcastle are as predictable as any team in the league. Press em and they fold are boot the ball 50 yards to no one…unlucky…HAH

Comment #40Yes the team is poor and it needs sorting, but why do people on here continue to go on about the same possible buys i.e. Debuchy and Douglas, are they the only two players out there. We do not really have a clue what the thoughts are of those in charge are.
We have wasted loads of our time and energy on here chatting about buys, formations etc – does it make one blind bit of difference, does it hell.
The football club we support does not give a toss about us, never has done since MA took over, do you think it ever will, he is now playing with a supposed bigger fish ‘Rangers’ so any money he wants to spend on football is going to be split two ways, that means even less investment for NUFC.
It really is time we gave ourselves a reality check.
