It’s something we had been hoping for if we are to be brutally honest – and there may be a light at the end of the tunnel for Newcastle as far as Demba Ba is concerned – as news is coming through that the talks with Chelsea have been broken off – and the reason is the talks were unproductive – but now other clubs are likely to move in – including Arsenal and Liverpool.
Demba Ba – talks break down with Chelsea
Sky Sports News is reporting the reason for the breakdown were the huge wage demands being made by Ba’s agents, and we know at Newcastle they were enormous – and indeed these demands could scare away other clubs too.
And as we have said before we think Ba’ agents will want to put another release clause in Demba Ba’s contract, so that in a year or two they could do the same thing and earn more money off the striker if he moves again – the only difference being is that the release clause would be bigger than £7M.
And of course it’s been reported that his agents will be asking as much as £5M for themselves in any deal – and the news was that Newcastle paid out £2M to them last year to secure Ba’s services.
If we are honest, we are selfish and just want Demba Ba to be available to play against Everton on Wednesday night – so we have a decent chance of winning that vital game – but this breakdown could also scare away other clubs, who may want to sign the Senegal striker.
If Chelsea are unwilling to meet Ba’s demands in terms of wages and fees that have to be paid to his agents, we doubt if Arsenal would be willing to do a deal, although Liverpool still may want to do one – but they are signing Daniel Sturridge and may not be interested.
QPR would love to sign him, but there’s simply no chance that Demba Ba would go to QPR.
There are going to be twists and turns in this potential transfer of one of our best players – and we’re not even into January yet.
This is hardly good for my health. 😀

i love the optimism. i just personally feel- injuries and suspensions aside- we’ve lost points due to poor team selections and tactics.
but, all i can do is hope. i do think things CAN improve (note: not will) after january, but i attribute that to the manager. even before november we were playing pretty disgusting football with our first team.
again, though, i’m hopeful

Comment #2The whole thing is unsettling the team, and even the manager has said it is a problem. It is best that he goes IMO. As long as he is replaced!!

Comment #3nooooooooo… we need Ba out of the club as Pards doesn’t have the courage to tell him to f..k off… we’ll keep playing terrible just so he will be happy coz he’s scoring, and at the end of the day, we’ll find ourselves relegated again

Comment #8Any team signing Ba and giving him what it is stated he wants is taking a £30M gamble. If the Chelsea report is true it shows that even a mega rich club isnt prepared to gamble with that type of money. Not to say another club wont but it shows that Ashley isnt alone in shaking his head to Ba’s demands.

Comment #9If Ba does go, good luck to him. But i’ve still got a feeling he might end up staying as their aren’t many club that can meet his wage demands. Can’t see Arsenal or Spurs paying it, if this story is true then that for me would only leave PSG but i dont think they need him. Liverpool are signing Sturridge so can we rule them out?!!?
Wonder how much we offered him, a 60k a week take it or leave contract might do the job.

Comment #13If all things are true and NUFC are already set for a future without Ba then Pards can play him on the wing again no reason not to unless the board are doing nothing to prepare for Ba leaving but hey they’d be stupid if they hadn’t wouldn’t they…

Comment #14It’s not him entirely its his voracious agents and hangers on as much if not more so.
But hoping he goes, too destabilising for the squad too greedy with the ball etc etc.
Cant help thinking Ba was part of the problem between Pards and Collo.

Comment #16Personally think Ba will stay, as his ‘friends’ have no idea of how much a club will actually give him. He only has 18 months left on his contract, can see this one dragging on forever.
Stick him in the reserves for me. gives him an instant 20k paycut, that should give him something to think about.

Comment #18Even though he has scored a good amount of goals, he isn’t in the same league as the top strikers in the Prem. the boys on the top money are phenomenal players. The amount if people who think our football will improve shows that he isn’t as good as he thinks.
ESPN were raving about his hold up play the other day. I think his hold up play has been awful at times. He can’t trap a bag of sand and goes to ground more often than not. I watched Shearer play so know what good hold up play is all about. You could smash it into Big Al and it stuck. Every time. I know he was the best ever but Ba wants the money that Shearer earned.

Comment #19I think Ba does not really care about his career, oddly.
He cares about the money and his agents too.
I doubt he recieves many updates about where he’s going next and what’s about to happen.
But i’m not gonna hang him for it, he’s given his all for us and we should be happy about that. He owes us nothing.

Comment #20I am pleased he still with us but mainly because we don’t have a replacement. His stubborness to play through the middle and bad link up play with Cisse has cost us a lot of progress team wise. He has scored some crucial goals again but if we changed our system to benefit the team and not him I think we would have done even better. As Ba would have been unhappy with this we have played to Ba’s demands and I am like most of us sick of Ba’s demands, be it wages or position it’s not helping morale across the team.
Was it just me that saw Ba’s goal celebrations subdued on Saturday?

Wonder how the Medical went in London? if, indeed there was ever a medical in London?
Think its just really typical that BA,s greedy agent, representatives etc should scupper a prospective transfer!

Comment #26I don’t think Ashley fu##ed up last summer,I think it was a very calculated risk not to buy as he in his lack of footballing wisdom saw a squad that should finish mid table which is where he’d have been happy, unfortunately for him he’s going to have to spend that same money on keeping us in the league, the very same money that could have seen us pushing for top four, why didn’t he buy fu##ing Ladbrokes instead of us.

Comment #27Remy or Gameiro would be perfect for us. Imagine any of those two quick and nimble strikers linking play up with Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Marveaux and Cisse. It’s mouthwatering and bound to be a success as they are a different style to Cisse and Ba who are more target men and will compliment each other brilliantly.
Remy or Gameiro for Ba and I’ll be ecstatic!

Comment #28TADS. You defend Ba religiously which is your right, but you have no thoughts on the fact that his Representatives have spoken to Chelsea and are now talking to “other clubs”?
Ba seems desperate to leave. I agree there is little evidence/quotes from saying he wants away, but there is even less saying he wants to stay. At no point has he come out and said he is happy here.
Not asking you to change your mind, just to take on board that Ba is realistically wanting away and is trying to push for the move. Can’t blame him if he can get big money elsewhere, but he certainly hasn’t nailed his colours to a black and white mast lately.

Comment #29I have always been positive with demba even at the start when he was fasting and was slow to settle
But this circus is a complete distraction ,he and his agents have made their bed it’s time to go sorry and thanks for the memories
Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for
I think Demba will maybe realise its not so griim up north after all

Comment #31I agree sirtoon gospel. Demba has never nailed himself to the Toon colours at any point as far as I can remember. I’v said it before, he’s been very coy since day one and has just been waiting for the right opportunity. Demba is a snake of the highest quality for me. Their his agents after all. Nothing could throw me from that. Decent striker tho and decent strike rate. I want him gone this window

Comment #32The fact that he is allowing his agents to negotiate on his behalf and effectively hold the club to randsom abosolutely stinks. It is not the fact that he wants to leave but the example he is setting for the other players and discontent it will cause in the dressing room.
He should be benched until he either signs a contract or leaves, it is as simple as that.
This type of behavior should not be tollerated under any circumstances regardless of our league position as loyalty and professionalism should always come first.

When did i say he doesn’t want to leave?
I haven’t ive said the treatment of him from the media and fans is terrible and now Ed’s started to just make sh1t up!
Theres no reports on his wage demands from chelsea any where on sky
Theres no evidence that he has been offered this huge contract fron the club and turned it down and if you take the story that ed is basing the last to articles on then he’s only on 20 k with performance bonuses which you’d imagine would be seriously hampered by playing on the wing
I have no issue with him leaving he owes us nout and is entitled to be on a salary that matches his ability
Even cisse has come out and said the board are wrong to let ba leave but some fans seem determined to only see the half of the arguement to suit there case and seemingly blame him for the season, which is fcuking ridiculous
Now we have some absolute tw@’s hoping his knee gives way and career is over?
Get real

Comment #34JP I saw it too. He did look a bit subdued, and I thought that the team didn’t celebrate the way they did with Marv’s but maybe I was reading too much into it.
At the time I thought it was perhaps because he was Arsenal bound. Now no one knows! But he was certainly quite subdued where they would normally be going ballistic at fighting back 3 times.

Comment #35personally demba ba has ruined his own toon future, or should i say his representatives/agents etc. the players/coaching staff and board are fed up to the teeth of the saga along with us fans. greed thats all it is and no club will cave in to his demands as he isn’t in the same league as your world class strikers. Pardew needs to grow a pair and make him realise that no player is bigger than the club. Bench him till the summer and get rid. Play cisse throught the middle and use him from the bench iff required

Comment #36All this talk about loyalty and resurecting his career, well for starters it was Westham that gave him his chance but they got themselves relegated,we’ve also shown him and his knee enough loyalty to have had a top striker on a very low wage in comparison to other top strikers, loyalty works both ways,I think were stuck with him till he leaves for free,so get him stuck out on that wing and tell him to start thinking of the team.
