When things go wrong there is always an opportunity – and the first opportunity is to put things right – and that’s what Newcastle United fans seem to have done with Wigan Cosmos.
These are not true Newcastle fans
They have brought nothing but shame to our club
Wigan Cosmos were one of the teams that were playing a week yesterday when Newcastle “fans” invaded the pitch and ripped up the nets, and did other unseemly things during an outrageous 40 minute period – and there is video to show them acting like idiots, and their behavior has damaged the good name of Newcastle United.
Newcastle issued a statement last week saying they would be compensating Wigan Cosmos for all the damage, and Wigan Cosmos manager John Pendlebury has since been inundated with goodwill messages from real Newcastle fans, who have also collected money to compensate the Wigan Cosmos club.
John is 35 and a school supervisor from Wigan, and he had this to say:
“I was contacted by someone from Newcastle who said they would like to offer us the opportunity to play an admin team at St James’ Park and some ex-players. They were quite upset about what had happened. They wanted to try and put right what those fans had done.”
“The response has been incredible, it’s heartwarming really. It shows what genuine football fans are capable of and the passion they have for their club. Newcastle should be proud of their real fans.” “These lads work an hour during the week to get £5 to play football on a Sunday. They pay that money for the privilege of playing.”
“So to see all that just vandalized was hard to see. The damage cost £200 which to a millionaire club like Newcastle is small change when you think about the wages they pay.” “But the Newcastle fans have been unbelievable, they’re working class people too who were ashamed of what some of their so-called fans had done.”
John has been the manager since 2004, and many of us were shocked when the videos showed the supposed Newcastle fans shouting the following:
“We do what we want, we’re Newcastle United, we do what we want.”
Let’s make something crystal clear – they are not real Newcastle fans and they have completely shamed the good name of Newcastle United Football Club.
Fact.
Cosmos assistant manager and coach Dennis Kilgannon had this to say:
“When these young lads first ran on the pitch it was good-humored, but it then it got out of hand. There were a few genuine Newcastle fans watching our game and they were embarrassed by what happened.”
“However, the response since has been fantastic and shows how football people come together to support each other in their hour of need.”
Newcastle United will be reimbursing the small Wigan club for the cost of their losses – so hopefully as far as money goes Cosmos will get more than the cost of the damage by the Newcastle hooligans, as some recompense.
It’s great to see real fans making amends as much as they can – to help out the Wigan Cosmos club – well done to all those real fans who contacted Wigan Cosmos on behalf of the club, and also to those who have donated money.
If you’d like to contact them and/or donate money here is their web-site.

Comment #84WWAED….I do get that, really I do, but isn’t that even more reason for us to jump all over it? What good is it Newcastle and it’s fans turning around and saying “oh well, they were only drunk kids messing about” – that rings awfully similar to Whelans comments about the challenge 🙂 For me, it’s about showing some class.

I agree that in the grand scheme of things yeah not that big of a deal, but can see why there club was fcuked off tbh, as a non league club each player has to pay registration fee’s every sunday, the club it’s self probably has to pay subsidies to the local council (know mine does!) and you don’t really get any form of funding, so to have to pay £200 quid to get new nets and a few more quid to get new balls, it has to come out of some ones pocket!!
As for the are they real fans or not, I don’t really care tbh, you get a bunch of tw@’s at every club, but this mob look like a group of virgins who watched football factory before heading out!!!
Big deal or not don’t think ppl should be justifying it though, the negative publicity is always linked to the club so bit stupid of them, especially doing it before the game why travel all that way and risk not getting into the game if they got caught!!
Ibiza from previous
Have to disagree about tiote, I don’t think he reads the game at all and is actually why he’s been poor this season, he hasn’t had the same level of protection and has reacted far too late far too often, prob where most of his pointless bookings come from!

Comment #87Tads…I think I said that I don’t have an opinion on whether Tiote or Perch read the game better, to be honest it’s not really their main attributes as players.

Comment #88I hope we’ve heard the last of this Wigan Cosmos story I think right minded peple would agree that the actions of “the Toon supporters” cannot at all be acceptable or
mitigated with comments suggesting that it was just a few lads who probably had a few pints too many and were having a bit of fun.
The Toon got off to a bad start on this -their initial statement saying they would not
offer compensation. It was quickly recognised that this was probably not the right way
of resolving this matter and then the Toon isssued a further statement offering full
compensation and we hear the offer of a match against Toon staff.
The outcome is that there has been good press reports about the Toons’ offer and donations by Toon fans.
I only hope that the officials at the match have not complained to the FA about this incident. I suspect referees reports from a county level would take a bit of time to reach the FA. I hope there is nothing yet to appear “officially” about this matter.

Comment #90I,ve already commented above about what i think about reactions to this artikle !
People can come on here and say what their meaning is, but we are talking about a Non-League Sunday Team here and NOT Wigan Athletic FC !
I am proud that NUFC have tried to right a wrong!
What happened in the fixture Wigan vs Newcastle Utd had nothing to do with what went on beforehand against Wigan Cosmos, where do some of you get off trying to come on here and start to try to justify what happened !
I say i am proud that Newcastle have tried to right a wrong, but, some of my fellow Mags on here i feel ashamed of !
Not going to say anymore !

Comment #91Who are those clowns at SJP who shout ‘shoot’ every time Tiote gets a ball in space 50 yards out. In fact I have come to realise that Checik seems to do what pleases the crowd. Once long back, he did a succesful pirouette and got applauded; now he tried that every time. Once he cleanly got the ball after a crunching tackle, and the crowd applauded; now he thinks tackling anyhow/anywhere is his sole objective.
I still believe its all in the mind and the focus for him. He just needs to stop being complacent and told in no uncertain terms by Pards that his place is under threat.

Comment #92Anyone else think when your at sjp sitting in the gallowgate end the pitch looks fairly small?
Anyway what do you guys think about elliot? I think he has done an outstanding job covering for krul and I would drop krul for a few matches let him have his chance…I love them long goal kicks and taking free kicks from the half way line.

Comment #93Still can’t believe people are going on about getting Santon sold he has set up the most amount of chances in our team this season from LEFT BACK!! Only Baines and Zabaleta have more actual assists this season from the fullback area
Wait till next season I believe we will move him further up the field to eventually take Jonas place on the wing he is not as good as Bale but there is great attacking potential put him on the wing and feed him the ball rather than giving him the ball in his own half and making him beat the whole team cause no one else makes any runs for him to pass to
The same people calling for him to be sold for one or 2 errors are most likely the same people who called for Routledge to be sold and now regard him as amazing since he went to Swansea
You keep players like Santon as thats how you build a quality squad with him Haidara, Dummett, Taylor, Debuchy and Curtis good our fullback situation is looking good for next season
If anything we should be looking at cashing in on Tiote as it does not look as though he can make the step up in quality required for us yes he is a good ball winner and hatchet man but we dont really need a player like that we need a player who can dictate the tempo well and play quality passes which he cannot do if anything Cabaye should play that role and we should buy another playmaker like De Jong as we are far far too defensive
Also would anyone take a punt on Scott Sinclair for next season??Could be bought at about 5 million and has real quality on the wing plus he will be pretty fresh for spending a season on City’s bench!!

Don’t get me wrong am not condoning it am just not embarrassed by it. It’s been dealt with perfectly well by all Town related personnel so what’s to be embarrassed about, it was a bunch of daft lads showing themselves up… Plenty do that in black and white shirts the world over and nothing is said (also cynically think that if McManaman hadn’t stuck that tackle on Haidara this wouldn’t of been in the papers near as much as it has been)
I agree on drawing a line under it and forgetting about it tbh, let’s get onto why Tiote, off form, is STILL better than Perch eh?

Kevy…Really impressed by Elliot, but even with some of Kruls bad traits lets say, I’d still play his over Elliot any day of the week. Great to have him as an option though and he has done superbly.

I don’t its a case of us wanting him sold, I wouldn’t, but if he wants to go to AC and they come in for him, then he might go.
Why sell Tiote when Perch gets more bookings than what he does, personally I would keep both of them

Its not just about the bookings as Perch at the moment is a miles better footballer than Tiote who loses the ball in vital areas , loses possession all the time can hardly pass 5 yards accurately and always tries hollywood passes and stupid shots from 50 yards out !!
Perch keeps it simple and makes sure we keep possession he also offers better protection than Tiote who gets caught upfield far too much
If we want to progress as a team Perch or Tiote should not be in the starting eleven anyway so if selling Tiote meant any money from his sale went to getting a better all round midfielder who does not miss games through silly suspensions, far too many international commitments and niggling injuries then perfect

I would take him as he is a total beast but he might demand high wages its the problem with getting players from City and Chelsea is their players actually think they should be getting 100k for even warming the bench will be quite a big ask for Taylor to stay 100% fit for a full season so Lescott could do a good job till our younger center backs have a few more seasons out on loan

Yup little ol’ Anita! Just think he’d suit our CM more now with socks anita and cabs all 3 can play anywhere in midfield, rotate keep the opposition guessing and generally not rely on one creative outlet, just feel tiote is a hindrance when we try and play from the back, dithers on the ball and normally loses it, and is a liability defensively

On paper I agree but on the pitch seeing Anita this season at least he just wouldn’t cut it as first choice imo I also think Tiote is hugely improved when next to Cabs when he can simplify his game rather than trying to be the CM driving force

Don’t you think the behaviour of the guys responsible for the stupidity at Wigan Cosmos did some damage to the reputation of Newcaste United and its fans.
The fans of all clubs are seen as ambassadors for their clubs and you’ve seen how the press, and the southern press in particular take great delight in reporting the negatives.
It’s for that reason kevym that Newcastle United fans can and have done themselves proud with the action taken to help repair the damage done by a few mindless idiots.
Unfortunately, your post at 14 gave the impression you supported the irresposnsible behaviour at Cosmosbut I’m sure that’s not the case.

Comment #116Glad to see some sensible posts this evening from WWYCD and Spoof concerning Tiote and Perch. Both are vital players in our squad and interesting to note the bookings figures. As I have said before defensive midfielders attract bookings as they must stop opposition attackers from running through midfield.Cabaye and Tiote are a good pair and Perch an excellent utility player. We should be aiming to keep all of our best players as this is how we will improve next season.
