Newcastle have yet another injury to a defender, with 20 year-old Australian Curtis Good being injured yesterday afternoon in Newcastle’s U21 game against Norwich City.
Curtis Good – after signing last summer from Melbourne Heart
Curtis was signed from the Melbourne Heart last summer, and he’s just returned from a successful loan spell at Bradford City – and was on the bench for Newcastle at the Etihad Stadium ten days ago.
Newcastle won the game 2-0 with goals from Brandon Miele and Michael Richardson. and Curtis was injured in a challenge with Olu Durojaiye just before half time, and was replaced by new signing – 17 year-old Kevin Mbabu.
But the Reserve team manager Willie Donachie. is hoping the knee injury in not too bad, as he had this to say in the Shields Gazette:
“Curtis went for an X-ray, and hopefully it’s not too bad,” “He’s a great kid. He’s so honest, and that’s why he went in for the tackle.”
“Hopefully it’s not too bad. He took a kick to his knee, but both knees clashed together.”
Newcastle will be hopping that Curtis comes through next season, but we also think he could be sent out on loan again, and it could be that Newcastle bring in two new central defenders in the summer, with both Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson expected to leave the club.
At the moment Newcastle have Mathieu Debuchy, Fab Coloccini, Davide Santon and Massadio Haidara out injured,, but it’s hoped that Massadio can play against Benifca on Thursday night, after recovering from the knee in jury he picked up from that ridiculous challenge from Wigan’s Callum McManaman just over three weeks ago.
It will great to have Massadio playing on Thursday night, and we’re sure he’ll get a big welcome back from the Newcastle fans.
