Newcastle After 21 Year-Old Danish International Playmaker

Newcastle have today been linked with 21 year-old attacking Ajax midfielder Christian Eriksen, according to Algemeen Dagblad.

Christian Eriksen – Newcastle interested in 21 year-old

And it seems that when Christian was just 16 years old, Newcastle were interested in the player, but he elected to join the famous Ajax Academy in 2008, and he has played for all the Danish Youth sides, and 34 times already for the full Danish National side.

The 5’10” tall Dane was born in Middelfart, Denmark and is skilled with both feet, and has given some great displays this season, and it seems that both Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested in acquiring the player in the summer, with Liverpool thought to be leading the race to sign him.

It seems that Ajax are almost certain to allow their top youngster to leave the famous Dutch club this summer, and the 21 year-old is regarded as one of the best young players in Europe at the moment.

It may help Newcastle that we did a deal for Vurnon Anita last summer, and of course Anita will be able to give the Newcastle manager Alan Pardew some in formation on just how good this lad is.

Christian has played 189 times for Ajax with 31 goals and 63 assists,  since making his debut back in early 2010, when he was still 17, and he made his Danish full international debut in February 2010, in Denmark’s friendly match against Austria, after he had just turned 18.

Eriksen was part of the final Danish squad of 23 participating in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and he was the youngest player who participated in that tournament, and played two group matches, against the Netherlands and Japan.

His contract runs out in June of next year, so maybe he would be available at a reasonable price for Newcastle.

Newcastle center-back target Toby Alderweireld is also expected to leave Ajax this summer, as is 24 year-old Siem de Jong, whom Newcastle were reported to be interested in during the recent January transfer window.

So it could be that Newcastle bring in another Ajax player this summer, after bringing midfielder Vurnon Anita to the club last summer.

Christian would be a tremendous acquisition for Newcastle but we face some very strong competition, especially from Liverpool.

Comments welcome.

We have a slim to no chance of signing this player. We can all dream though. He really is top drawer.

Anyone know if Cabaye is out of tomosrrows game.

just read on the premiership injury list physioroom.com that he is out for 4 days.

Toon go 3 injuries clear at the top…
doesn’t look good reading on the site – 10 players out injured

This is my wet dream of the summer. Can’t see him leaving Ajax for under £15M though.

This is on a non starter but i do think we will look to sign a player in this position so that Sissoko can go back to playing deeper where he is better suited.

I think we may go back in for Siem de Jong that would be a very good signing also.

I think the biggest thing on the agenda for next season if Pardew isn’t going anywhere any time soon, is to completely overhaul and revamp the medical and training personnel and facilities. It’s a joke to be leading the injuries league by 3 players !!!

Much rather have siem de Jong and then we have a complete midfield (every type of centre mod you want).

Also seen this today on BBC site

Wigan Athletic have so far failed to sell at least 10,000 of their allocated tickets for Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Millwall. This has prompted the FA to take the unprecedented step of opening a zone for neutral fans. Both clubs were allocated just over 31,000 tickets for the game.

I’m not a huge fan of erickson…never impressed me but only seen about 7/8 of his games so not too fair.

He will end up at a side like us, Liverpool , etc

Won’t be at the top end of footballing clubs.

With only 1 year left on contract might be a bargain though

We are nearly always high up for muscle abd ligament injuries too. It can’t be just pardew cause like you and others said before its been like that as long as I remember.

We need to get to the cause of the problem. Test everything from staff, facilities, air/water quality, temperature…anything that could be different and causing an issue and try to resolve it.

Watched an interview before the manc derby and Schmeichel said that man utd have over 30 different members of coaching staff (physios etc not included) he said they literally had a coach for everything you could think of. Not surprising they have few injuries and players like Giggs can play on into there 40’s.

does seem unlikely, but, then again, something about this reminds me of the first rumours that we would get ben arfa a few years back. everyone dismissed that initially too.

Well, if there is competition for all three, Siem, Toby and Christian, then it would be pretty unlikely for any one club to take all three, so the possibility of getting at least one must be good. IMO I’ld favour Siem as we need both more and better AMs (Marveau is inconsistent, Ben Arfa is injury prone, Sissoko is more enthusistic hit and miss than canny play-making and Cabaye tends to drift too deep too often).
On another note, while I accept and agree PEA as the #1 target for the next window, he my well be getting priced out of our range, I rather fancy either Dries Mertens (PSV Eindhoven) or Dusan Tadic (FC Twente) – either would be available for under 10M.

Not sure about this lad seems to have gone off the boil alot recent times, Iker Munion from Bilbao looks a far better prospect than him and cheaper too.
