Six years ago today I started the Newcastle United Blog, principally for people like myself, who were away from home base – but could now closely follow Newcastle United because of the Premier League being broadcast around the world.
Glenn Roeder – the Newcastle manager in April, 2007
In April of 2007, Glen Roeder was the manager and Freddy Shepherd was the Chairman, but Glenn was subsequently fired and Sam Allardyce was installed as Newcastle manager in late May.
And that all changed when Mike Ashley bought the club in June of that year, and he installed Chris Mort as Chairman in August, and fired big Sam the next January.
And of course we were relegated in May, 2009, and came straight back up and were 5th last season – but this season has proved to be very difficult – extremely difficult in fact.
I started the blog simply for people around the world who supported Newcastle United, and wanted to share my views on the news of the day associated with Newcastle.
And I have encouraged readers to express their opinions on the news of the day also – via the comments.
The only thing I have asked is that each of us respects the views of other people – even including Sunderland supporters. 😀
There have been close to 18,500 articles written in those six years, and we have had over 1,100,000 comments, and over 86,000,000 hits on the site.
And yes – it’s still true I get up at 3:00 am eastern time every morning over here – when the news comes out – and my wife Madeline (and others) think I’m crazy – they may not be far from the truth.
My aim is to keep the blog going for as long as I can, but of course like most other things, that will depend on my health.
Many thanks for your support over these six years – and hey – top six or bust next season.
Ed Harrison.

Comment #4Well Ed after finding this site completely by accident just over a year ago, I find it is the only NUFC site worth reading. Not only due to interesting articles but also the comments section, where you will find a diverse collection of geordies (and non-geordies) ready and willing to entertain, amuse, educate and infuriate you all united by one passion- NUFC. Thanks Ed and here’s to (hopefully)many more years of the NUFC BLOG.

Comment #6Ed thanks for your time, enthusiasm and commitment. I have been reading the blog for a few years now, everyday!
I get most of my news and laughs from here. I expect to be reading for more years yet to come. Its unfortunate that at this time we are dependent upon other teams losing, rather than the toon winning.
Hope that changes soon too.

Comment #13In the four years I’ve been present on this blog, there have been a number of quality, friendly and bizarre (Kets I’m looking at you) contributors to the comment section. Engaging with fellow Newcastle fans from all over the world has been a fantastic experience since I don’t know any Toon fans around me. Despite this, the real reason for the success of the Blog has been the commitment and enthusiasm shown by Ed to provide us with top notch articles and analysis of our beloved club. Here’s to another 6 years!

Comment #23I vividly remember two years ago when i was bored at home and curious to see who we would sign in the summer window and stumbled across this site. Read the first article with 300+ comments, clicked on the next article and the next then added page to my favourites haha.
Thank you Ed for creating a place where all NUFC fans can come and interact, share ideas, criticism and have fun. Here’s to your health and many many years to come

Comment #25Im on a break from engaging with comments on the blogs at the moment while we near towards the end of the season. I just want this season over with so we can all re-group, so much negativity around lately.
Just nipped in here to say congratulations Ed, what a success this blog has been. I’v been following since day one. Excellent, im sure your very proud.
Being born and bread in Walker myself, I know just how much the Toon mean to the locals and people around the world, as you have typically shown with your commitment and dedication on the blog.
Well done and keep it coming Ed.

Comment #27This blog is excellent. I’ve tried others but they’re a pale imitation to this forum. I love the transfer windows and I enjoy the ITK’s, still don’t understand why people get worked up about them.
Overall the patter on here is generally good and often informative.
Thang you Ed for having the vision, dedication and skill to make this blog what it is. Outstanding.

Comment #28Thank you Ed, not only for creating this blog (which i think is unparalleled and the envy of other fan bases) but for your dedication in maintaining it.
As you envisioned, I first came across nufcblog when living abroad and have come to cherish the space it provides to so many diverse voices among our community of love that is Newcastle United.
You’ve brought a damn good thing into existence. Thank you 🙂

Comment #31Wow, has it been that long?
I think I started reading the blog in the second year as I found it through News Now. I don’t always read all the articles or the thoughts of Ed, but I find it a great source of all the days news related to NUFC (via quotes, copied articles, rumours, etc).
It definitely beats scrolling the internet myself for this information – Thanks Ed!
