Wigan Athletic have amazingly won their first FA Cup ever, by defeating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley, with the winning goal being scored by substitute Ben Watson with a great header from a corner in added time.
Ben Watson – after scoring winning goal in added time
And just before the goal City’s Pablo Zabaleta had been sent off for his second yellow card – and that could have given Wigan that extra drive to win the game, before it went to extra time.
And Wigan were as good or better in this game than their opposition-who have spent over £850M on their players in the last five years.
And it’s just amazing how Roberto Martinez gets the best out of his players – who individually are fairly ordinary, and not one of their players could get in the Manchester City side.
But this is a team game – and it’s a huge shock.
Newcastle had better ensure we get the win tomorrow so we are safe – because we wouldn’t put it past Wigan to save themselves again with two wins or four points out of their last two games at Arsenal and Aston Villa.
We must get ourselves to safety tomorrow with a win at QPR, and not let it get down to the last game – where – as we found out four years ago – anything can happen.
But congratulations to Wigan Athletic for a fantastic FA Cup final win.
And a message to Alan Pardew – please get the win tomorrow to save our season, our Premier League status – and our nerves.

Comment #5So what are the chances I’d get Lynched for suggesting we should sign mcmanaman in the summer if they go down and we stay up. He looked electric today with a superb burst of pace and ability to turn defenders inside and out.

he just won the fa cup with a team that cast half of aguero’s value
and was the better team for the whole game,
not a lucky win,, a deserved win

Comment #14I honestly just think Mcmanaman is riding a crest of a wave, looks to have no outstanding attributes aside from selling a mean dummy, something defenders wise up to after a couple of seasons, ask Damien Duff. He isn’t quick or anything. Defenders are just scared of him at the moment as they’re exposed to the same fanfare as we are. Once it all settles down, he’ll be about as good as Mathew Etherington.
That sounded like a Ketsbaia9 post 😆

Comment #15Wigan have to stay up now. They can beat Arsenal away. I still hope Villa will go down. We need a player like Mcmanaman. Sign him up. Espinoza, Scharner and Boyce were all immense today.

Would have been better with extra time but they are still playing in 3 days time.It might feel the seasons over for them now.

Comment #20Still hate Wigan, still hate Martinez, still hate Whelan, will always hate Mcmanaman.
City were poor, no congratulations from me. I would never take a cup and Europe over staying in the league – I will gladly see them celebrate today, to then stay in the championship for a few years.

Comment #21no offence intended but martinez has been at wigan for some seasons now and is still in the relegation zone !
and we did get to the 1/4 of europe so frustration at pardew aside i dont think theres much between martinez and pards tbh.

Comment #23Congratulattions to Wigan, by far the better side throughout.
Tomorrow we need to play with the same determination – QPR can be guaranteed not to care less- and then we’re safe.
We hope!

Comment #26Wigan and villa have realised they are in a dogfight and are trying their best too get out of it. Us on the other hand play like we have finished mid table with nothing too play for. We also look so unfit compared to other teams.

Comment #29BPC – Can you see us winning against QPR though? I honestly cannot, we have no goals in the team and do not travel well. I personally believe there is more chance of Wigan losing at Arsenal and us drawing at QPR. We’re safe that way but the season was a write off long ago, now its damage limitation. Its beggars belief swansea and wigan can win cups this season and our wait goes on.

Comment #30Who mentioned my name? I’m normally right in what I’m saying. Wigan are a decent team and deservedly won the f.a. cup today. Scharner and Mcmanaman were immense. Alcaraz would be a good signing for us. Good confident player.

Comment #31The fat man is choking on his pint. He hates Dave whelan. Whelan has won something the fat man and the Toon never will. We are the eternal chokers whether we are trying to win something or fight relegation. Great to see Wigan play much better footy than we can only dream about. I want us to stay up but in footy terms they are much better than us. We should be going down because we play rubbish. I would swap their team and manager for ours at the drop of a hat. So jealous. Any crappy little team can win something except us. Dream on fat man!!!!!

Comment #32Superb result for Wigan. By far the better team from start to finish. Congratulations and the plaudits all deserved.
Its an example to all that belief and a strong team ethic can pay dividends.
Lets hope that our lot tomorrow will show the same qualities and secure our own PL status.
As for the comments from AndyNUFC, not clever, lacking intelligence, immature and should be kept to yourself.
If we are relegated it will because its warranted due to a very poor season. I hope we stay up and the wrongs of this season will be corrected and its serves as a kick up the arse to some who obviously need it as nobody has a divine right to play in PL and that includes NUFC.
Hope Pardew has got our lot believing and prepared to win at QPR.

Comment #33This story needed to be retold.
Ronaldo under Pardew will become Mr Nobody. Why?
He hate cocky players, players with flair to display,
Pardew: “Hey Cristiano, can’t you just get back there and defence for the good of the team?”
CR7: …but I’m born to attack…i defence like a clown.
Pardew: Stop all you nonsense excuse, now get back there and polish up your defensive skill. Before i drop you from playing and …(show off your skill)
Some will ask: How about Messi?
Pardew: Ok, guys he may be a good player or one of the best but he is too small to be in our team. We train Giants only. And our philosophy is not football on the ground.
Players like Mcmanaman will only harm the team by not put in extra effort to defence.

Sit down, take a deep breath, and stop lying to yourself.
There is no glory in 38 points from 36 games, but there is a joy everlasting an a lifetime of good feelings in lifting that cup.
Success – footballing success – is what the game is all about. NUFC fans have long forgotten the meaning of the word, let alone had chance to experience it. Ashley doesn’t care – his success is measured in a spreadsheet. Fans now measure success in who we bring in over the summer months.
