Newcastle got their first win in six games this afternoon, and climbed four places in the table to 13th – and if we can beat Arsenal next Sunday, and that will not be easy, we have a chance to finish even higher in the league, and we could get up to 10th place – – if all the results go for us next Sunday – which would be unbelievable.
Yoan Gouffran celebrates after scoring a great opportunist goal
Alan Pardew was simply delighted that Newcastle were finally safe after a very tough second half today, and the defense with Coloccini, Yanga-Mbiwa and Mike Williamson having excellent games at the back – was the key.
We had mentioned when Williamson was included in the side in place of Steven Taylor who was sick, that Mike can play well in big games, and he again didn’t let the side down today – and all credit to him.
This is what Alan Pardew said after the game to reporters:
“We got an important result today,” “I don’t really care if Arsenal win 4-0 if I’m honest – I’m sure Spurs will – but I only care that our fans enjoy themselves.” “I’m very pleased.”
“It was a very important game for this football club. Particularly this year with the finance of the Premier League.”“I thought both penalties were dubious.”
“We played well after that, showed great resilience and it is massive for the North-East to have a team in the Premier League.” “Accusations of a ‘rift’ are absolutely ridiculous. Those that made them will be sobbing in their beer today,”
“I think if I put my best eleven out every week we would be a top-eight side but I’ve only been able to put it out three times at most. It’s an unforgiving league and if you look at this division, the likes of Swansea and West Brom are only five or six points ahead of us.”
“It’s been an unbelievable season and I think it’s been so, so tight because of the financial rewards at stake this year. I will make sure that we are well prepared for next season, and thank God we are not in the Europa League again.”
We must go all put for a win against Arsenal next Sunday – and who knows if we can get a win – then we’ll finish this terrible season off in style – which would be good.
That has to be the major goal now. and since we get £800K for each place in the League table, Newcastle will not do too bad if we can finish near the middle of the table this season.
And it will also help our recruitment in the summer – which is likely to be an exciting time for Newcastle fans.
We hope it will be an an exciting time for Newcastle fans. 😀
We must try for top six again next season and turn this thing around.
But hey – we are safe – and that’s just fantastic.

Comment #42Pardew has demonstrated his total lack of ambition by declaring he was pleased we are not in the Europa League next season.
Ok, lets assume we have a great season next year and look like finishing in an European League place what will he do?
Also does that rule out winning any of the domestic trophies as they bring an Europa League place?
The message I get from Pardew is, “we are going to aim high next season, maybe finish as high as 10th, but no higher just in case”
My message to Pardew is “time to go” if that is the limit of your ambition.
Mr Ashley this man will not bring you true value for money with his approach. Get shot of him now. Let him ply his trade at a club with totally limited aspirations. You can let Llambias go as well while you’re at it.

The last couple of weeks, his interviews have become increasingly unhinged. He used to contradict himself from one interview to the next, now he does it with remarkable efficiency, one sentence to the next. He speaks like Europa is a burden – if that’s his attitude, then it’s a concession that he simply cannot cope, not the players, although I’m sure it rubs off on them, as with all his other preposterous comments.
What mental faculties he had, are frazzled.
How does he expect these words to be received?

Harmless casual racism is tolerated, nay expected, and we can take it in jest, to a point obviously, but insulting my culture is unacceptable, I for one am an extremely proud Irish man so I won’t be having my nation or culture be a point of ridicule.
You’re damn right about Gaelic football, I played it for 15 years, it’s a brilliant sport!

Comment #49Breno Plus i want a set up that has a desire to achieve trophies and europe not one that is happy to scrap year on year.
You’re supporting the wrong club. Get out now before disillusionment sets in! Trust me, 46 years after first passing through the sacred turnstiles there has only been occasional, sporadic signs of life – interspersed with the glory of runners up spots and long, long periods of scrapping year to year (as you accurately put it) and many, many massive disappointments.
Trophies? Nah, we don’t do them… They went out of fashion up here in 1955.

You remember some of the tiffs we used to get into? Time proved me right, unfortunately 🙂
Only kidding but glad that a lot of fans have woken up. I won’t get into last year….I was nearly as frustrated as I am now with everything but, like most, results were enough to pacify the utter crap play we were exhibiting. This year our results have sunk to the level of Pardew’s tactical nous.
Will really, really be disheartened if he is not replaced soon after the season. If it drags on for longer than two weeks after the Arsenal match, I think we’ve all got our answer, and that would be a worse decision than appointing him two and a half years ago

Seriously, give your head a shake, my mum used to say if you cannot say something nice don’t say anything at all.
Well here is my adaptation of a well worn saying.
“If you cannot say something sensible, then don’t say anything at all. In fact just shut up, get out. I mean it. I’m not kidding. Seriously, get off the blog. No, I’m not taking the p*ss.”
Think I may teach it to my own kids…

Comment #58What an utter disgrace Patsy’s comments are but it maybe indicative that we have already dipped into our summer budget this January (as Del mentioned 2months ago) and there won’t be a reassessment of the club “strategy”. So more of trying to be ‘stable’ and false promises.
More of this for the next 6 years? The club is dying slowly.

Comment #67Hi all, I believe at this point we are all absolutely relieved to have reached safety after what has been an incredibly frustrating season.
While it is easy to blame the manager I again keep going back to the fact that AP’s peers (Ferguson, Moyes et al) voted him the manager of the year last season.
This is based on the team over-performing, and AP getting the most out of his players. I don’t believe you can turn from being a good manager to a bad one overnight and we have to look at the season as a whole.
In my mind the jury’s out – I don’t think you can judge any manager on a single season. If AP can get in the players he WANTS and the team isn’t performing by January, then OK, let’s per-evaluate options.
BTW – speaking of Ferguson he was hated by fans and almost sacked after being in the same portion as AP all those years ago…..
“For the 1989–90 season, Ferguson further boosted his squad by paying large sums of money for midfielders Neil Webb, Mike Phelan and Paul Ince, as well as defender Gary Pallister and winger Danny Wallace. The season began well with a 4–1 win over defending champions Arsenal on the opening day, but United’s league form quickly turned sour. In September, United suffered a humiliating 5–1 away defeat against fierce rivals Manchester City. Following this and an early season run of six defeats and two draws in eight games, a banner declaring “Three years of excuses and it’s still crap … ta-ra Fergie.” was displayed at Old Trafford, and many journalists and supporters called for Ferguson to be sacked.[50][51] Ferguson later described December 1989 as “the darkest period [he had] ever suffered in the game”, as United ended the decade just outside the relegation zone.[52][53]
However, Ferguson later revealed that the board of directors had assured him that they were not considering dismissing him. Although naturally disappointed with the lack of success in the league, they understood the reasons for the sub-standard results (namely the absence of several key players due to injury) and were pleased with the way that Ferguson had reorganised the club’s coaching and scouting system.”
Food for thought ………..

Our squad did not have enough quality.
We had 9 squad injuries for two separate periods during the season.
Laudrup was surely taking a dig at Pardew’s lack of managerial experience in juggling the squad mind

Some nice players you got there, however:
I don’t know where you’re getting the idea of Shola retiring from. Cisse is a quality striker, he just gets no service. I would also keep Perch, Tiote, Williamson, Saylor, Elliot.
Why?
Because they all do there jobs extremely well, aside from Tiote. You’re being unrealistic, you’re CB’s for starters. Colo Mbwia Sakho Douglas
Colo will be off I believe unless we get a new manager, Douglas doesn’t want to come to us, Mbiwa is far too nervy at the back and I highly doubt Sakho would do much better either. Takes them a while to get used to the premier league. MBiwa at CB makes a mistake every match. Plus all four of those players want first team football, we can’t give them that.
CM’s
Sissoko Cabaye Anita Siem de Jong Bigiramana
Send Bigi out on loan, with them cm’s we seriously lack steel in the middle. Especially if Sissoko picks up and injury, but even then he’s not the best at tackling. Perch is fine with being a reserve player and is pretty decent at giving us that steel. Tiote will get back too his form eventually, so we may as well keep him and then sell him when he gets back on form anyway.
LM’s
Santon whilst I believe would be good, is not a left mid. Plus they’re all going to want first team football as it’s the world cup. There’s only one spot.
CF’s
Bony Remy Kone Gouffran
Remy is quality but I’m not sure I’d have him here. Is there really a need for this many strikers? Especially if we’re playing 4-3-3? Ideally this is what I’d have. Feel free to criticize mine as well.
GK’s
Krul Elliot Alnwick
RB’s
Debuchy Simpson
LB’s
Haidarra Santon
CB’s
Colo (I’d try my best to keep him) Mbwia STaylor Williamson (I’d get Sakho eventually as the replacement for Colo, just not yet)
CM’s
Sissoko Cabaye Anita Marveux Perch
RM’s
HBA Boudebouz
LM’s
Sinclair and Gouffran
CF’s
Cisse Carroll Gouffran Le Fondre

As I was incredibly insulted, given that he had insulted both my nationality and my heritage I think some would forgive me for calling him an inbred mongoloid, in fact that was tame compared to how I was feeling.
I’m not justifying anything, as I feel I do not need to justify defending my culture against racists, so if you’ve nothing constructive to post about football can you leave me to deal with the manner in which I post as I am not currently taking any advice on the issue.
In short, you’re wasting your time.
