There were reports yesterday that Alan Pardew had met with Shola Ameobi and talked about what his intentions were this summer.
Shola Ameobi – will Newcastle let him go?
A couple of months ago there were reports that Alan Pardew wanted Shola to sign a new deal at the club, once his current three year deal expired next summer, and his meeting could have been a follow-up to that, because Shola has been undecided about signing the new deal..
Shola has played so few times this year for Newcastle, and then when he did come on against West Brom after 69 minutes, he injured his knee with his first kick of the game – and is now out for the season.
The manager may be having second thoughts about keeping Shola, who has been at the club since he was 14 years old.
Certainly Newcastle need to take a hard look at each player after our last game tomorrow, and how they have performed this season, and decide whether he should stay or go.
And since Shola has one year left on his contract maybe Newcastle want to sell him this summer, so they get some money for him – if they have decided not to now offer him a new contract.
At the end of March Alan Pardew had this to say about his 31 year-old striker
“He’s still got another year here with us.” “And I don’t see a problem extending that. We’ll see.”
“I think the bottom line with Shola will be how long he wants to stay at one club, because he’s been here all his career.”
“I hope he wants to stay, but that’ll be his decision.”
One of the problems Shola has always had, is that he keeps getting injured, and Newcastle cannot expect more than half a season out of him, because of the injuries he keeps picking up.
And there could be some surprises this summer about who Newcastle are willing to let go – and Shola could be one of them.
For the record, Shola has played 368 times for Newcastle with 76 goals.
What do you think?

Comment #1Ed you are ridiculously fast with these posts I can’t keep up and I’m copying and pasting
RE-POST
Although I am by no means a fan of Pardew or his style of football (In fact I have been calling for his head for months), I do think we should give him another chance and put this season down to bad luck. If we look at the Prem Table were only 7 points off 8th position and if someone can honestly say we would not have got another 7 points if our team had not been decimated then I would have to disagree.
Our squad right now is more than enough for the Prem and two cups next season maybe need another Striker and replace anyone who leaves. I am confident we’ll challenge top 6 and with a good run maybe top 4 again.

Comment #2let him leave for free!
due to his loyalty to the club he deserves more…
because of his lack of talent he deserves less…

Comment #4the problem with pardew is that his team has no style of play…no clear tactical plan
he’s just not good enough for a top club and that’s the bottom line..
stability my ass
if we’re not in top 10 after 10 games next season he must go
i’d rather see him sacked before the season but ashley will never do that

Pardew is unique:
Most goals conceded in a PL season for NUFC
Most long balls in a PL season for NUFC
Biggest home defeat in a PL season for NUFC
Biggest home derby defeat in a PL season for NUFC
Loss against Arsenal will mean the most losses ever in a PL season for NUFC
Worst run of form over a 10 game period in the PL for NUFC ever
No goals scored from a corner which again is the worst on a PL season ever for NUFC
Statistically the worst manager to have 50+ games in charge of NUFC in the PL
There are many more unique facts and stats.

Comment #6Get rid of him. BUT replace players that leave unlike last summer when macloven and best went and we knew Ba war off we got nobody in . That there is very weak management. Even Liverpool fans thought that of rogers when he failed with Dempsey bid and still let Carroll go on loan . Learn from awful mistakes and replace with better

Comment #8Ill drive him to the airport.
Do people think giving AP till chrimbo is wise?
If we want to replace him i think youll find the only time we will get a decent replacement is in the summer.
Imho its why we have had so many managers, how many have we had join the club mid-season?
Good players/managers usually only move in the closed season.Unless theres a very good reason.

Comment #9one more thing about pardew:
if campbell doesn’t get 45mins tomorrow that means pardew is an absolute shitee manager, even worse than i thought.
why not give a chance to the young players, if there’s nothing more to lose.
a top manager takes risks and pardew never does so that says enough…

Isnt MA a spurs fan?would be funny if we throw the towel in on Sunday just how AP said we would.

I think being so close to 8th is more a sign of how shit most have been outside the top 8 rather than anything else.
We are 22 point off of Everton in 6th and 24 points off of our own total from last season at this time.
We are closer to relegation than to top 8 so stop twisting facts and look at reality. We are shite.

Comment #20All the points which Ginger listed on the last article which need improving… thing is, we’ve had all this season to make improvememts and week after week he hasn’t made them. It’s ridiculous to think that come the end of the season he’ll go “right, now to correct all the things I’ve done wrong.”
If he couldn’t figure them out this season, he’s not going to next year.
After West Brom he said we need to get more goals, yet look at his starting line up against Liverpool. It’s blatant lies and delusions.

Comment #23sorry folks for the repost but would like my opinion to reach a wide range of peers!
This shit is just getting boring now, sick of seeing the Pardew in/out shake it all about arguments… has no one else noticed there is 11 players on the pitch and more importantly this weekend marks the final appearance of one of the clubs greatest and loyal, modern day servants.
I personally wouldn’t be too disappointed if he gets the boot, I would be slightly frustrated if he stays, but in essence I am willing to give him another chance for fear of who his replacement would actually be!
This is not a defeatist attitude, I SUPPORT NUFC not the management, not the board but the black and white stripes that represent this great club for all it’s history, it’s up’s and down’s no matter what division they play.
Some of the fractured relations between bloggers and name calling is putting a lot of longer term bloggers from posting… as for some of the disrespect being shown to Ed and the great job he does… you know were your URL tab is… use it and fcuk right off!
rant over, peace out!

Comment #25By his own words he takes defensive training,so we have a manager who, when the going gets tough he is going to defend.
We have had a whole season of his defensive tactics to prove its what he will do.
How will we ever be good going forward if we have a manager who leaves scoring goals to someone else?

You’re fighting a losing battle mate. Ed could write a story about fishing in Uganda and some on here would post how its Pardew’s fault they aren’t catching enough!
I would love us to get a better, more positive and technical manager in but for now it looks like he’s here to stay at least a while longer.
I’m not sure if those who blast Pardew in every single post they make realise just how boring/pointless it is even if they’re right most of the time.

Comment #34Not a huge fan of Pards but not a hater but one thing that does get on my tits is when he describes a player as being a flair player almost as though it’s a luxury to have one and they must be used sparingly. I think Pards believes all of our attacking players are flair players and until he starts using them that way instead of just as ‘a little something extra up front’ we might have a shot at a decent season.

Comment #36To be honest I don’t want to sell Shola because firstly, who in their right mind would buy him? I like Shola because he has shown loyalty to the club, he genuinely does care and he has an ubcanny knack of scoring against the unwashed so why not. Over the last 10 or 12 years at Newcastle Shola has probably been the only constant, apart from Steve Harper. Yeah Shola may have lost a yard or three and his accuracy isn’t what it once was but he’s almost like the supporters’ comfort blanket and Idon’t want him to leave because he is part of the furniture now.
